What type of internet connection do you have?

I myself use '3 Mobile Broadband' with the little USB thingy.

Personal and General Pros:

* Convenient when using your computer in another location away from home. (Considering you have a laptop).

* Only have to plug in the USB for a connection unlike when I used dial-up and always had to plug in a massive telephone cord. People always tripped on it and yanked out my connection. :gasp:

* Obviously broadband is a lot faster than dial-up. :wacky:

Personal and General Cons:

* The status report for my internet usage only updates once every day. Therefore I don't really know how much I've used that day and don't know if I have to pay a big fee in the end. i.e: Last month I went over by $300 :gasp:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I used to be on dial-up for years until I moved out. It was due to the fact that I lived out in the sticks with my family and it was impossible to get a broadband connection out there.

However, just recently certain companies have upgraded. That'd be right now that I've moved out and have to pay for my own internet. >_< My siblings get free broadband. Not fair. :gasp:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think that I may get Prepaid Mobile Broadband after my 24 month contract ends. It'll ensure that I never go over my limit. >_<

Discuss what internet packages you are currently on and why you chose them, listing pros and cons.

It could be many reasons like; I couldn't afford anything else at the time. :wacky:

Or a more in-depth explanation of why your particular internet connection meets your needs.

Also feel free to rant about this particular subject considering some of you may have dial-up. >_<

I recently moved over to talk talk, its like £6.50 a month, (£16.50 inc line rental) which is gewd, I couldnt have one of those mobile broadbad thingies, I know Id go over every month without fail

I literally chose mine because it was the cheapest available at the time, I think it's an 18mth contract, although Im not sure, could be 12...

I'm currently with AOL (>.<) but I'm in the process of moving to TalkTalk. Unfortunately we can't get the cheapest rate in our area but it's still £10 a month cheaper than AOL.

Roadrunner.

My biggest problem with it is that several times a year something will happen, like some idiot hitting a telephone pole, which knocks it out and it takes a week for somebody to get around to fixing it.

Otherwise, it's pretty fast. Also, as far as I know, RR hasn't gotten into sending the "omg fu" letters for using too much bandwith on torrents, which is good. They're considering going to a paying by the amount of bandwith you use, though, in which case I'll dump the shit and just go skim off the neighbors...

I'm on an ADSL2+ deal with Adam internet. Basically I get 10 Gig a month of downloads and uploads and if I go over the limit, my net slows down to dial up speeds. So I always try my best not to go over the limit. It's a pretty decent deal and it's quite affordable too, the best thing is that I don't get charged if I go over the limit. I'm sure that if I did get charged I would've racked up a few massive bills by now.

Sky broadband. Basically, leeching off the parents. We used to have BT internet, but Sky offered the Phone and Internet for something like £16 a month, so the parents jumped on that one.

It works for me, cause it's so cheap they don't ask me to help pay for it, and it's faster than BT. BT used to restart every night at midnight, so I'd get kicked off then, not with Sky, it works all the time.

I don't have that many problems with Sky broadband, with BT it would spazz once a day and we'd have to unplug/replug the modem all the time, with Sky it only happens once every 2/3 weeks. xD Far less hassle.

Wildblue satalite internet *grumbles*

The only pro is that it's faster than dial up...sometimes...basically where I am this and dial up are my ONLY options. I would rather have dial up actually though..with this one weather majorly messes it up and during Fall, Spring and any cloudy day in the summer....forget getting online. There is also an upload/dowload limit...and even though we hardly upload anything..the meter is always high and when it goes over they slow our internet down (to less than half the speed to dial up) it stays that slow for about a month. The tech support it non-existant too...their advice for the whole non-existant upload thing was to 'turn your computer off for a couple days to let it go back down'...except for the fact that that makes no sense since it's a 30 day meter..meaning your usage used one day will not dissapear until 30 days later.

It's.such.a.crap.system. I hate it with a passion, but I guess it's better than no internet. It doesn't help that I am using a 10 year old gateway that doesn't have sound anymore either....

It's a phone plus DSL package, we pay roughly 19-20 dollars a month(depending on the exchange rate) and its not that bad, even though its a slow 384 kbps.

We use FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0. It's download speeds are 6.0 Mbps. We enjoy it. ^_^ There's no download or upload limit so we never have to worry about going over the monthly bill of $42.95 a month. And the customer service for it is pretty good also.

I use BT Wireless broadband at my mums which is ace because it's mega fast and it's unlimited downloading, and then I use BT at my house (I dunno which package) but again, it's mega fast and it's half price since we have relatives who worked for BT ages ago :-)

United Networks, 1 year plan, 1Mbps, Infinite Downloads. Planning to upgrade to 8Mbps next year.

ADSL netpac, Unlimited Downloads forever and my internet speed can go up to 12MBps, but since i'm always using wireless doesn't go that much, and not being close to the modem doesn't help.

But if I play MMORPGS' I switch to cable so I can get the best of it.

I have now upgraded!

Well I will be able to use it as of Wednesday (meant to be able to use it last Thursday)...but I have signed up for a much better plan!

I am now going through Optus and we're getting ADSL2+, which includes 20GB of useage and there is no on or off peak crap to worry about.

Getting unlimited calls to any phone and mobiles as well as it comes with a phone package. >.<

Dial-up...the worst of the worst, but I get online. Somehow. >.> 37.2 kbps, ISP is Sympatico...thing is there isn't even a choice to upgrade from Dial-up, living out as in the middle of no where as we do we can only get an Internet Connection through Dial-up.

So slow it is torturous, but the Dial-up Accelerator makes it just tolerable, but I can't consider serious online gaming, I can't even access the Wii Shop Channel on my Nintendo Wii with this. :gonk:

But it beats the heck out of no Internet, I never had been on a computer to experience the Internet until I was a teenager, now I couldn't live without it. :monster:

10mb broadband.

I can empathize with this. I have DSL now, but I've only had it for about three years--before that I was on dial-up, I think 56K, for an extremely long time, and then whatever the next one down from that was before that >_> And it would never run at the optimal speed, it would always do like half or less. Sometimes I could click to go to the next page, go off and do the dishes for 10 minutes, and then come back and the next page still wouldn't be loaded yet. And whenever anyone would call, it was a pain, it took like 10 minutes to get reconnected because it would keep failing. And I'm still haunted by the times when I had to attempt to download new programs--once I set up Adobe Acrobat to be downloaded because I needed to view some PDFs for school (they always assume everyone has spiffy updated computers), and I knew it would be a while so I let the thing download for a half hour and then went into the other room to do something else. When I came back about 2 and a half hours into downloading, it finally got to the end...and then it said "Haha, you are missing a plug-in and Acrobat's not going to work xP" :ffs: :banghead: :rage: So grateful to have DSL now...even though now I'm out of school and I don't actually need it with as much urgency.

ClearWire Broadband :gonk:

The pros with this is that, if placed in the right part of the house, then it has some decent signals, and has a good speed. It usually has to be placed by a window, however. Also, it's cheeper then the others out there; which is good for me as i like them cheap :D

The cons i see is the way the signal works; it can either be good or shitty, depending on where the satilite is at and what time of the day it is.

For paying only $29.99 a month, it's a pretty good fcking deal ;D

Wisprenn High Speed

Pros: WAY faster than dial-up. I love it and haven't really had an issue with it for a while now. At first, the connection would die for a few minutes, but now it doesn't do anything like that.

Cons: Bandwith. I have only a certain amount of it and it tends to run out faster than normal with 4 people using it all the time.

Comcast high speed for me. I love it, really fast most of the time. But sometime it goes on the fritz and sucks. But I never have a problem and I host 16player games on xbl and play ps3 wireless online fine. Ooh and download movies in 5minutes. :awesome:
