I do think the Vivi design is interesting, but it wouldn't have worked with the personality he ended up with in the game. Not enough awkwardness/uncertainty in his look. Overall, I'm glad they went with Amano's designs (tweaked further by Square). However, it would have been cool for Garland to have a second form, and turn out looking like the one this guy did, kind of to punch home the relation to FFI further.

I'm glad IX is what it is. Vivi's charming 'cause he's cute and almost naive. That design looks more like a monster... A Black Waltz. I can't imagine that being cute.
