The following a parties I've beaten the NES version with. Class changes except where noted.

1 Fighter, 1 Black Belt, 1 White Mage, 1 Black Mage
1 Fighter, 1 Thief, 1 White Mage, 1 Black Mage
1 Fighter, 1 Red Mage, 1 White Mage, 1 Black Mage
2 Fighters, 1 White Mage, 1 Black Mage
2 Fighters, 2 Red Mages
3 Fighters, 1 Red Mage
4 Black Belts (no class change)
2 Thieves, 2 Red Mages
4 White Mages
4 Black Mages

These are the parties I can remember beating the NES/PS1 version with:

1 Fighter, 1 Black Belt, 1 White Mage, 1 Red Mage
1 Fighter, 1 Thief, 1 Black Belt, 1 Red Mage
1 Red Mage, 1 White Mage, 2 Black Mages
1 Fighter, 3 White Mages
1 Fighter, 1 Thief (2 black mages that were killed at lvl 1 and never resurrected)
2 Red Mages, 2 White Mages (currently working on this one)

The two parties that I remember.

- 2 Warriors, Black Mage, White Mage
- Warrior, Thief, Red Mage, Monk

I finished the game with 2 red mages and 2 white mages.
Now I have started with 2 thieves and 2 white mages and the beginning at least is much more difficult.

First time I finished the game was pretty typical:
Warrior
Monk
Red Mage
White Mage

However, then I decided to do the same, except replacing the White Mage with a Thief. Quite the difficult experience with just items and Red as my only means of healing!

I've only beaten the game once (GBA), and plumbed the depths of my creativity to use the... um... well, the default party (fighter, thief, black mage, white mage).

...

But it was fun! :)

I remember when I was a kid playing on the NES, I first beat the game with Fighter, Thief, Black Belt, and Fighter. No mages.... Later on, I used Fighter, Black Belt, White Mage, and Black Mage (like Nintendo Power said to use). Now going through it again with Fighter, Thief, Red Mage, and Black Mage (like 8 bit theater did now that I think about it).

Warrior, Thief, White Mage, Black Mage
Warrior, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage
Warrior, Warrior, White Mage, Black Mage
Warrior, Red Mage, White Mage, Black Mage
White Mage, White Mage, Black Mage, Black Mage
Red Mage, Red Mage, White Mage, Black Mage
Black Mage, Black Mage, Black Mage, Black Mage

Those are the playthroughs I've cleared so far. I'm currently planning to do a Red Mage solo playthrough and a full White Mage playthrough.

Originally played the NES version with Fighter, Black Belt, White Mage, Black Mage.

Currently going through the iOS version with Fighter, Thief, Red Mage, Black Belt.

I played the GBA version but can't remember my party that time through. The PSP version was a pleasant surprise graphically and musically so I remember that playthrough much more. I went for: Warrior, Black Mage, White Mage, Monk. This seemed to make most of the game ok, diffictulty-wise, and a playthrough that I really enjoyed.

I only really play the NES version (played Dawn of Souls once but vastly prefer the original), and I've played through it a lot of times with a lot of different parties, but my favorite was four black mages. I've done a solo White Wizard, as well, which was fun (and probably reduced my life expectancy). Another fun party for me was two Thieves and two Black Mages.

Warrior, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage thus far. Take into account this was like early 90s. I replayed it again in 2012 I think and was able to do the same build without having to worry about losing my game save.
