What RPG Is As Good As A Final Fantasy Game?

Where to start lol:

Persona series is amazing, specially 3!
Shadow Hearts is both gothic, full of humor and a great battle system.
Legend of Legaia is truly a RPG legend.
Legend of Dragoon is brilliant also, 4 disks long.
Lost Odessy is just pure beauty.
Breath of Fire series is worth a look!
And Suikoden 2 is just lushy.

whoohoo!!!! lol Persona 3 and Odin Sphere as well as Shadow Hearts 2....1 & 3 arn't as good. Persona 4 is also coming out soon. =] RPGs are the best!:nudge:

eh Minx thats a cute-ass Sig you have there my friend ! I ve played some shonkers in my time but the only other rpg I felt matched or surpassed the ff seies was Star Ocean till the end of time a great game in its own right from my point of view!

Since it hasn't been mentioned, I'll jsut go out and say Tales of Symphonia. Very good game, and you can really place yourself in the main character's shoes, but not in the way where he is the type that has no name/doesn't talk (something that has always irritated me a little apart from the Pokemon games). I think Tales of Symphonia actually grasps the "role play" part of RPG. It also has tremendous replay value - I believe there is an alternate ending for each character.

...Though, take the replay thing with a grain of salt as it's secondhand info. I wouldn't know for sure since I lent my game to my friend before I could beat it properly >:(

I've heard good things about other "Tales" game, especially Tales of the Abyss, but I haven't had the chance to play them. Plus, Abyss is rather hard to come by instore nowadays.

Mass effect is one hell of a rpg, with the same elements of final fantasy adventure, depth storyline, lots to do, many classes to choose from, free to choose what you say, awsome graphics, leveling system is awesome, and the battle system is just incredible. One of the best games for the Xbox 360, it is truely worth getting.

If your into Final Fantasy Tactics, then check out Jeanne D'Arc for PSP. It has the same tactical RPG platform as FFT. Once you play it, you will most likely enjoy it.

I love the Shin Megami Tensei series Persona,Digital Devil Saga and Nocturne are great games.
I also recommend as mentioned Chrono Series(I loved Chross even more than Trigger)Xenosaga,Suikoden.

Most of my super awesome ideas have been staed previously- but I love the Persona series, especially 3 and 4. ...More people need to play those...

ALso, Tales is a really on-again off-again series for me. Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Vesperia, and Tales of the Abyss are both games I love. Tales of Destiny 1&2, Tales of Legendia and Tales of Symphonia 2 on the other hand...just don't go there. I like the breakaway from turn-based, even though people complain about the button-mashing type gameplay. Characters and story are really great and involving in the previously (and positively) mentioned Tales games.

Chrono Trigger, ftw. Haha. Seriously, if you haven't played it, you need to. At the very least, pick up the DS version that came out not too long ago. Schweet.

Super Mario RPG...haha. Guilty pleasure of mine.

Some titles that can be as good as Final Fantasy (or better in certain aspects)

Legend of Dragoon, Shadow Hearts series, Fire Emblem series, Suikoden series, Breath of Fire series and Golden Sun I/II.

All of these titles have great RPG storylines and characters as charismatic as Aerith and Badass characters as Sephiroth, a fan of RPG's should just stick with FF, there are many great RPG titles that can be good or even better than some FF's, I also recommend trying the Persona and Tales series as they are pretty good.

I have to Agree with Ruka for Legend of Dragoon, Shadow Hearts, Breath of Fire and for sure Fire Emblem! Fire Emblem is my second favourite series, it has a great story line and awesome characters. I also love the strategy in battles. Suikoden i didn't much get into. I playing one of the games and i didn't much like it.

Another game to add in there is Jeanne D'arc. I was surprised at first thinking that i would not like it but it turned out to be quite a game. It's much like Tactics which is my favourite FF game. So definitely check out that one for the PSP.

i have to say parasite eve is a must play. its a bit more realistic than most rpg's and very interesting at the least. its a little short but it makes up for it in replaybility.

legend of dragoon was excellent also

In terms of more traditional RPG's:

-Tales of... series: Tales of Sypmhonia and Tales of Vesperia are easily two games that challenge FF in my mind. In fact Tales of Vesperia is one of only two other games that I would rank anywhere close to FFX (the greatest game of all time). Great characters and good stories that are often deep and layered through multiple side-quests (ToV has the greatest character exposition of any form of entertainment... even the tertiary characters have immense depth to them).

-Chrono Cross: it has already been said, but then a game with such a complex storyline and multiple ending scenarios is always praise worthy.

-SMT: the Shin Megami Tensei series is the counter-culture RPG. Dark, gritty, and often morbid and depressing beyond belief, the SMT series and its spin-offs pack quite an emotional punch. Nocturne is known for its morality system and multiple endings while the Persona series is known more for the linear story progression and in depth exploration of the human soul. The only warning here is that these games are well known for their brutality towards the casual gamer (some boss fights even had me, a hardcore gamer near to tears because of the frustrating difficulity).

In terms of non-traditional RPG's:

-Oblivion: less story centric but has a deeply immersive world with a complex history and mythology. It is very easy to lose hundreds (if not thousands) of hours in this game.

-Mass Effect: the other game that can directly compete with FFX and ToV for greatest of all time. Immersive story with branching paths and moralities, this game not only delivers emotional depth, but the expansive qualities of games like Oblivion with the nature of doing things at your own speed. And since this is merely the first game in a trilogy, these qualities could easily explode into the most immersive gaming experience ever (literally every choice in this first game could result in a victory or defeat in game 3).

I would say that the Mana series is brilliant, and Pokémon games, too! Oh, and I almost forgot God Eater games, I love them, too! They're about the same level for me as FF games. :D
