So...in FFX you could make your name. Therefore the voice-overs never said his name.

In XII you couldn't edit anyone's name at all. They said all the characters names and things.

Which do you prefer better? Not the games per-say but how the names will be pronounced. Do you want to be able to hear the main characters name in furutre games?

^I agree. The more choices the better to me. But I always change the charecter name.

I don't care that much either way. I suppose I like the freedom of having the option to change the characters' names, but I never do. Probably just because I'm so new to the series. If I ever replay any of the games sometime in the future, I'll probably make use of the ability to change character names. I just like to use the actual names the first time through.

Of course I want to be able to hear the character's names in the future games. It gives the character a little bit more meaning, if you get my drift....but maybe not. =(

Okay, in other words, the name gives the character more prominency.

Either way is alright by me, it doesn't really bother me. I don't really like renaming my characters, I did it once in Final Fantasy VIII and it didn't feel the same lol. I usually just keep all the characters the same name unless I change them for a bit of a laugh. Lots of people seem to like changing them though so I guess having the option to do it is a good idea. Everybody is different! :P

I don't really have anything to argue about in games where you are not allowed to change the characters names. Even when I do have the option, I choose not to. I like to keep everything about the game 100% original.

I like it better if we don't choose the names. Like in XII. They said Vaan's name in the VO's and it was a refreshing expereince hearing the main characters name.

I never change the names of the characters, the originals are always much better.

I might do it every once and awhile. Just to make things funny or whatever. I use to love to do it as a child now I am sticking to the original names.

(R) This post has been recommended 16+. Reading whilse high is also recommended.

I prefer using the originals. better still if they could let you pick your own character name from a list, so that way, your characters name gets said (unlike tidus)...so everyone wins
Unless you pick a really cheesy names that dont even exist...can you imagine!

Instead of:
Hey Penelo, wanna go to the club tonight, come on Penelo, it'll be FUN!!!
I'm not sure Vaan, I said I'd meet up with Balthier and Fran. how about tomorrow
Oh, okay. I'll see you tomorrow Penelo

It could somehow endup like:
Hey 'Slut', wanna go to the club tonight, come on 'Slut', it'll be FUN!!!
I'm not sure 'You Bastard', I said I'd meet up with 'Butch' and 'Bitch', how about tomorrow
Oh, okay. I'll see you tomorrow 'slut'...

Unimaginable...:)

I never edit names so I always keep the default ones. 2 reasons:

1. I suck at making up names. I may use my real name for the main character like I did in FFIX for Zidane on my first playthrough, but other than that, I've always stuck with the defaults.

2. It makes it easier to discuss the game with others if we are all using common names for our characters. I let my brother-in-law's little bro play through FFX and he didn't even know Tidus' name until I told him so because he renamed Tidus after himself. Just makes for easier discussion.

Roflmao. So your bro was calling Tidus by his own name. Oh geez. x__x.

"Hey, So did you see Jason kiss yuna?"

"What!? I swear it was a guy named Tidus"

yeah, it is quite easier.

I keep to the original names. I don't like changing names, it bothers me if I do change it. I usually know the main characters name before the game gets released anyways.

Square should have kept Tidus, and not have the option to change his name. It's stupid hearing the characters say: 'Oh that guy' or 'Remember him....I forgot his name..'

Firstly I'd change a name if it's not already a mythology of it's own: so I would not change Cloud, Squall or anyone else from VII or VIII

I did change the name in X thou, but that is because I've got two different save files - one for each grid. And changing the name keeps them apart.

Remark: When I play through VII again, I will name Red XIII by his real name Nanaki. That will create a funny line in Cosmo Canyon, but it's his name so I let that slide.

I actually liked having the ability to change and edit the names in the previous titles, but now, with the voice-acting, I’d actually rather hear the characters true name as it was in XII.
