Before I ask my question I should probably let you guys know a few things. I've beaten and completed FFIV (iOS), FFVII (PSX), and FFX (PS3) and I'm not really sure what title I wanna play next but I have a few options, which leads me to my question, which FF title should I tackle next and which version of the game should I play? I have the FFX/FFX-2 HD remaster and I really don't wanna play X-2 because of how terrible it is. I'm stuck between FFIII (iOS), FFIV: The After Years (iOS), FFV (iOS or PSX), and FFVI (iOS or PSX). I played the DS port of FFIII and really enjoyed it and I kinda wanna go back and give it another go but I heard the game is unforgiving in terms of it's difficulty so that's kinda discouraging. I wanna play FFIV: The After Years because I really enjoyed FFIV and how straightforward it was and because I liked the character's and am curious where the story would go. I wanna play FFV because I heard the job system is super customizable and a lot of fun. Lastly, I wanna play FFVI because I've heard it's arguably the best FF game and one of the best JRPGs ever made and it just seems epic in scale. So what do you guys think?

The best Final Fantasy games in my opinion are Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy VI, and Final Fantasy Tactics, so out of all the ones you listed, I would go for Final Fantasy VI. It had some of the best characters, the best antagonist, and one hell of a story. Personally, I like a difficult game, in fact, I play games to be challenged, so I also loved FFIII, but at the same time it left a lot to be desired.

So yeah, go for VI, it's fantastic...Then fo gor the PS1 version of Final Fantasy Tactics if you can, that was also fantastic.

Based on what you've said, if you enjoyed IV and want to find out what happens next in The After Years then thats the one I'd suggest. V and VI are also both great. Personally I'd go for the PSX versions as I find playing those on the iPhone quite annoying (and the difficulty has been somewhat dumbed down a little I think) but if that isn't an issue for you then go for it. The iOS versions will have the same extras that were introduced in the GBA versions and have more up-to-date graphics.

I disagree here. The PSP version is like the PS1 version but with many extras. I can't remember there being any negatives to playing the PSP version. I do think you should play it though sir, whichever platform you choose :).

FF6 is the better of the "older" FF games (FF1-6) so that's a strong option. GBA version is the best, with only sliiiiiightly lower sound quality being the downside that people talk about. It does have more content, an improved script and portability going for it though. Oh, and it doesn't take like 5-6 seconds to open the menu like the PS1 version does.

Negatives to the PSP version consist of needing a Shakespearean translator and stupidly easy difficulty...They removed all sense of challenge in the PSP version. The only plus side is the multiplayer and that's only if you have a friend with a PSP and with the game, and the expansion on Beowulf and Ries' stories.

The colouring is also way off, making it look horrible. I haven't played the iOS version as of yet but if portable is the way to go I think iOS might be the superior move.

:lew: The script is fiiiiine on the psp version. I prefer the easier difficulty of the psp version. Means you don't have to level grind so much (and who likes level grinding for hours?). Besides, Balthier is in the PSP version. Improvements!
Prince Oberyn Martel - I'm pretty sure that's down to the GBA's limits. The colours are duller compared with modern handhelds because there isn't as much light behind it. This would be the case with...alternative gaming sources too, probably :wacky:. FF6 never had very nice colours in any version anyways (lotsa browns and dark purples etc). I agree that the iOS version will probably be best.

PS1 over PSP, but both are enjoyable. the extras aren't that redeemable, in fact some of them look out of place (Cloud and Aerith). but their just extras.

Its the same if not worse with alternative gaming sources. Its not a case of it being dull, its a case of being too damn bright. Its like playing it after snorting a line of Coke or something and everything goes buuuuzzzzyyyy. The darkness of the SNES and PS versions suit the game just fine in comparison, and the iOS version doesn't look as bad. Though that will probably be down with the redrawn graphics suiting it better.
