Right now I have a dual install Windows XP Home Edition/'Whichever linux distro I feel like screwing around with' machine. My linux distro changes fairly rapidly, but I do tend to prefer Debian-based distros. And I still have a soft spot for Slackware....

As for which I prefer, Windows for it's compatibility with all of my games, and Linux for pretty much everything else. I can get some games working through WINE, but none of my favourites it seems....

When I am at home I use Windows XP, though when I am at my uni I use Windows ME version on their computers.

I've always used XP, though I've had the sudden urge to switch to Vista, despite all the bad stuff I've heard about it, it still looks sexy. :monster:

I have two pcs. The one I'm using now is windows 98 (omfg) and the other one is windows vista:)

XP. Windows isn't exactly the best OS (far from it, actually), but it's got alot more compatibility with programs than Mac does...like Trillian...and ComicRack...and ROMs...and Soulseek...and Zoom Player...and uTorrent...

...and the USB ports on my PC aren't hidden like they are on Macs...

...and I can actually right click with Windows...

*goes on and on*

Mac is more craptastic than Windows, basically. And before any of you Apple fans get uppity, we have a Mac desktop and Mac laptop in this house, plus I have an iPod, so I know where I'm coming from.

Operating System

I was just wondering what OS everyone was running. Are you a microsoft, mac, linux?

On this Computer i dualboot Kubuntu/ubuntu linux and Vista
On my Desktop I just have XP

I run Windows XP and my main computer, and I DO NOT plan on changing to Vista, ever. It's such an flawed operating system. x.x

*sighs*

I get so tired of people badmouthing Vista. Yes, it sucked when it came out OVER A YEAR AGO, but they've had time to improve it, and improve it they did. I got my new desktop back in February which came installed with Vista on it, and I haven't had any problems with it. As a matter of fact, I like it much better than XP. It's alot more customizable, it's prettier to look at, and it didn't lose any of XP's functionality.

As a matter of fact, from my time spent on 4chan and lurking software message boards, I've come to the conclusion that it's only inept n00bs who think Vista fails, simply because they can't figure it out and won't spend the time. They come across something and BAWWWWW about it instead of simply googling a question.

Does anyone remember how it was a bit of a pain having to restore the recycle bin on the desktop in XP if you accidentally deleted it? Well there's an option right in the control panel to hide it or show it. It's alot easier changing the boot and login screens too, and the files for that stuff are kept in separate directories now so if you mess something up, it won't affect the rest of the process.

Erroneous.

I'm running vista and it's quite amazing. You just need a computer that can support it's power, much like only a handful of women can harness my power...I.E. put up with my bullshit :)

I've got Vista on my desktop and Windows XP on my laptop, I really don't prefer one to the other though, they both get the job done. Vista just looks sexy while doing it.

i use mac OS for photoshop/illustrator, and PC for gaming. Is vista as good as XP for PC gaming now?

i held back until because i heard XP games wouldn't work so well on vista, i don't think it'll work with win98 games though *cuddles StarCraft*

I know there's compatibility modes like XP has, so they should be able to run, but Vista is actually supposed to be designed more for the gamer than anything else. I run WoW on this piece constantly and it's perfectly fine, COD4 as well. If it's a new game, it'll work with vista. If it's an older one, it's pretty much a toss up.

What he said :neomon:

People seem to still be stuck in "VISTA R SUKK XP R BETTAH" mode from when it first came out. It doesn't suck anymore though, and there's absolutely no reason to hang onto XP.

Vista is supposedly the OS for gaming now, and it handles the few PC games I have very well, even the first Halo. What you heard was a bunch of whiny crybabies bawwing needlessly.

It's true that some Win98 and XP games do have trouble on Vista, but most of these problems are minimal and can be solved with a patch or two you can download. And the patches are usually provided right on the official website's forums, and I suppose if not there you can always take 10 seconds to google for a patch, or just wait for one to come out.

I have my mum's laptop at the mo running Vista. I'm getting over my own XP biases, slowly :P

Though I've never been fussy about it anyway, as long as the internets works, then it's fine with me. Plus it runs all my music programmes and VSTs just fine ^^

Macintosh OS X v10.6.2 on my MacBook Pro

Macintosh OS X v10.3.? (don't remember) on my iMac G3 and iBook clamshell

I used Windows, linux and stuff too and enjoy them all ^^

/not a crazed fangurl

I was using Windows Vista, but I've just bought my new computer a little while ago and intend to buy Windows 7 for it. =)

I wasn't a fan of it at first, but it is pretty decent to use now, especially since they upgraded most of our computers at work.
