Who here thinks FFXIII will be the longest Final Fantasy

Generally, every Final Fantasy is longer than the last. XII, if completed from start to finish doing every single sidequest/mission/minigame/hunt, can take over 100 hours easily. Compare that with, say, Final Fantasy VII. Even if you do everything in the game, you'll be hard pressed to even get close to 200 hours, while my completed file of XII clocked in at 217 hours. Not convinced that XIII will be the longest? Look at it this way:

Final Fantasy XII, for as long as it was, took up one single DVD. Final Fantasy XIII is taking up at least 3 HD DVDs. Graphics will fill up quite a bit, but that still leaves a ton more room than that little DVD provided for XII. XIII has no excuse not to be filled to the brim with sidequests, and I'm going to love every minute of it.

I think the story will be around 20 hours or more, with sidequests an all maybe around 50 and up. Pretty sure it'll be way longer than 12, i don't know if thats a good or bad thing though, i enjoy long games but too long and i just get sleepy.

Take 12 for example, while i did somewhat enjoy the game the sidequests took too long to complete and there was too much backtracking.

I just hope 13 keeps me entertained that i won't get tired of playing it each time.

There will always be people who say the game was too short, and there will most likely always be people who say it was long enough or too long.

I, however, I hope that it is in fact extremely large. I'm not sure how long FFXII was supposed to take to finish, but I'll tell you I'm going through it right now and I'm at 115 hours, not even finished with the game.

There was a statement that it will take "50-60 hours for experienced gamers" and I don't really think of myself as an "experienced gamer". So that is welcome news to me.

The first time I play a game I try to get everything I can, do as many sidequests etc. Although, sometimes I just want to get on with the story so I skip them. I can see myself doing that this time around, so I will probably have to play it at least twice to get the most out of the game. However, I'll probably be re-playing for a long time anyway.

Although I don't claim to know much about them, look at the Xbox 360's discs. They were said to have, what, 3 discs for this game? That may just be for the quality that they couldn't have put on one DVD compared to a Blu-ray, and it could also be because of the length. I'm prepared for it to just be a quality factor, but I'm hoping it's going to be lengthy, just so I can be playing it longer.

Since FFXII was short(at least for me), most likely FFXIII will be long. I just hope it's not the type of game that'll have one of those cliff-hanger endings that will leave you expecting more.

But I guess the length doesn't really matter all that much to me. As long as it's a good game.^_^

so just wondering if you think this game is good enough and long enough to warrant a ps3 buy. i don't have a ps3, and i might get it just for ff13. i first got my ps2 when ffx came out so should i go and get a ps3 and ff13? normally i would but now that im older, i have less time to play so its a tough choice, i really want to but im just not too sure if its gonna be worth it.

but lighting does seem like a great lead character, probably gonna be the best lead character in a final fantasy game. how could you not like a tough looking female lead not like girly yuna/or a wanna be tough girl yuna/or terra who i really don't know much about

I wouldn't get a PS3 just for Final Fantasy XIII, especially with the range of great exclusives out there, as for the length, it's been confirmed twice over the months that there will be 50-60 hours worth of storyline alone, then you have the missions, levelling etc so length wise it's brilliant. As for whether it's good or not, we'll have to wait and see :monster:

Its bound to be the longest. From what I have seen the story is long enough. I, personally can't imagine what side quests, minigames, and secrets are also jammed in. Also there would have to be some seriously good features to convince me to buy a ps3.

I mean just buying a 299.99 console just for one 50.00-60.00 dollar game seems a little bit silly don't you think?

Most Japanese gamers have commented on how it only takes 40-50 hours to go through. The lack of side quests give you nothing else to do. You'll run through the game rather quickly, making it one of the shortest FF's to date.

Quite right...it seems that the game is quite linear, which is a disappointment IMO. So, it can't possibly be the longest one to date.

I suppose so... Including all the side quests that should be available, I would think that Final Fantasy XIII should be considerably long. Still, it's hard to assume it would be the longest simply because the demo is long.

EDIT:

Wait, there's no sidequests?!

From many, many, comments from Japanese gamers that have and have beaten the game, there are next to none. Many claim that it is the most linear FF to date, and the shortest.

Im guessing it would be pretty long, i'd think 35 hours in total.
35 hours is not a long game.

40-50 hours isn't a long enough game for you people, are you totally kidding me? How long do you actually SPEND gaming? o_o Seriously...I don't understand. That seems about an average amount of time to spend on a game, at least for people like me. I'm a mother and a wife so I can't spend hours upon hours on a game. I just can't fathom it. :nope: Another thing I'm curious about is why people are complaining the game is so linear...Aren't most all Final Fantasies linear until you reach the part in the game where you get the airship and are free to roam wherever you want? I mean honestly...=/

Personally, I play video games for a long time. It doesn't help that video games are getting shorter and shorter. When I have nothing to do and some off days, or unemployed at the moment as I am, I can go out on full length epic gaming marathons.

So 40-50 hours is very short to me. Especially for a RPG or a Action/Adventure. Seeing as how all the other Final Fantasy's can hit the 70 hour mark easy, the length of this game is a major disappointment for me. :(

It's hard to tell weather or not it'll be a long game or not... I will haveta play it an see:monster: but if the demo is 90 mins itself that seems pretty damn long to me. So idk =/

I don't see how 40-50 isn't really long enough either, it's about the same amount of time I completed Uncharted 2 over 1-2 months. I had to complete it 4/5 times which adds up to around 40-50 hours. Personally I don't see the problem with the time or the linearity, neither of them bother me, it won't affect how much I like the game because I can't say I'm picky over those things =/ There's those missions to do anyway so it's not as if it's all story D:

40-50 hours seems long enough to me. I'm still on my first playthrough of XII and I've done over 90 hours, but that's only because I'm not arsed about completing it too quickly ...

It could be possible that XIII might be the longest one, but you just never know. I suppose it depends on the player in question and what they consider to be long themselves. Regardless, I think it'll be long. I've thought every other game has been quite long and I don't think the trend's going to stop with XIII for me.

Woah, no side-quests? This is rather shocking to me. Most of the FFs have SOME kind of side-quests. And it's only 40-50 hours long? I'm really surprised. :gasp: Most of the Final Fantasies are around 70 hours.

But 40-50 hours is definitely not enough for an RPG, especially Final Fantasy. Plus, I never have anything to do, so long games are usually what I play to kill some time, lul. But even if FFXIII is going to be short, from what I've seen from the demo and the trailers, the game looks fucking epic.

Do you mean longest to progress through the story? If so it isnt. It only takes about 55 hours. It took me that long and a lot of time was spent wandering around and exploring. Probably could be done in 50. It could most likely be done in 40hours.

The game takes about 55 hours to complete, story mode not all the extras.

It could probably be done in just over 40. It took me 55 hours to beat since I spent some time wandering around and exploring.

To me it will be somewhat upsetting if the game only lasts 40-50 hours. However, a great story is a great story. I would much rather a shorter game with an amazing story than a longer game that barely keeps me interested. And alot of posts ive read keep mentioning the storage capacity of blu ray but youve got to take into account the graphic quality of this game its going to be some of the best we've seen thusfar on playstation 3. And as for it being linear I dont mind so much I am hopeful that because FF XIV is coming out later this year it will make up for what this game is lacking even though its going to be an MMO and being that online play has advanced so much this console MMO has alot of potential.
