Why are more people excited about Versus than FFXIII?

For me I'm excited about a little bit of both, but not enough to be extremely excited about either.

FF Versus XIII has me excited because:
-It is meant to have a world map - It has been a LONG time since we last had a world map, and this has been one of the reasons, for me, that I didn't enjoy the later FF's as much.

I was going to list another reason, but that appears to be it for now. I think I'd just like to see how it turns out as it is set to be very different, dark and modern.

That said I'd have prefered it to be more fantasy-based, but it could work out as interesting enough. I don't like a lot of the character designs (Noctis and Stella are quite cool, but the rest of the gang so far look quite boring and forgettable to me).

I'm excited about FFXIII because:
- A baby chocobo lives inside Sazh's afro.

So I think when I weigh them together, the afro just about wins it for FFXIII for me. Therefore at the moment I'm more interested in FFXIII, though I'm not getting it for a while.

EDIT -
I forgot to answer the main question...

I've not noticed that more people are excited about Versus, but I have noticed that some people are and it is likely because it is set to be something very different.

I honestly have no idea why.

I tend to stay away from news for future FF's unless I accidentally stumble across them. I was more excited for FFXIII because of the good things I heard in the week before its release. Still have no idea what the heck Versus is, anyway. I'm neither excited or anticipating it, really.

I was more excited for Versus than FFXIII at one stage, but my views have changed recently and I haven't even thought about Versus of late.

I think it just comes across as a lot darker and that might appeal to more people possibly. Or it could be that it's still in the works and not much is known about it and therefore more people are curious and don't really have much to go by in order to get too disappointed on anything as yet.

That's just my thoughts on the matter.

I'm more excited for Versus because of what it could be. So long as it stays on the PS3 only it could be an amazing game graphically, not that XIII isn't. I'm also interested in the darkness of the game. Most Final Fantasy's tend to have happy endings, and I'm hoping that Versus has a sad one. I'm a fan of tragedy myself, so for me Versus holds so much more promise than XIII.

And, when it comes down to people being more excited for it I think a good majority of those people can be classified as the fanboys. There are the Sony ones, like myself, that want the game to stay on the PS3 and be, to them, what XIII could have been. And then there's the MS fanboys that want the game to come over to the 360 like XIII did. So I'd say that covers about half of the people that are more excited for the game. For the rest of them, its all a matter of interest.

Well, FFXIII was, according to many game critic websites was too linear in both gameplay and story. Although personally, i quite liked the game myself and the beautiful details that redifined the eidolons/espers.

To the point then, FFXIII lacked what many FF'ers loved most about the series, the towns, side quests etc, but considering that FFXIII and Versus are both part of the trilogy, the only thing i can imagine that would have fans more excited about versus is the graphic capability of Versus. Nomura stated to the public that there wouldn't be any difference graphic wise from the cut scenes to the gameplay, and the game itself will carry a possible off grid update system that would stream updated content/mission ports.

hope that helped.

I would say because not only does it looks more epic but there is also the lack of information, the new development team, hope that they will learn from the flaws of FF13, the return to many traditions and putting a complex and amazing spin on them, the action RPG.

But generally, it seems to be hope that it will learn from FF13 flaws and considering how fast technology is advancing it is bound to have better gameplay and graphics systems.

I just wanted to comment about something here. I noticed people being happy about the idea of a world map in Versus and other potential "back to basics" concepts that weren't in FFXIII, however I find it hard to believe that the game is gonna be "classic" FF.

I mean, if it's being developed by the Kingdom Hearts team, isn't it more likely to assume this game is gonna be an action RPG like KH is? :hmmm:

Not that I think that's a bad thing, but I can't imagine turn-base in Versus xD

No thats not what I think people here meant.

Its a great thing battle system in KH and it should translate well into versus, the thing I may have talked about earlier was the world map being like FFVIII or FFVII and then entering a battle screen when encounter happen and fighting like the KH system.

This may sound logistically implausible given the different kind of formats, but its just like Rogue galaxy or fighting on star ocean with a KH twist.......at this point what ever they put out would most welcome, I think thats something we can all agree on

Versus will be better, because Nomura is kinda working on it and KH team (Osaka?) too?
Battle system will be similiar to Kh's and that's cool!!!

First of all becuz of the KH/Rogue Galaxy battlesystem (Ive only played KH1 but Rogue Galaxy man I played that one tooo obsessively)
Secondly its darker theme and more serious (I love the suits)
Stella is probably the most beautiful girl " invented" (she looks like a chobit)
I love the fact of a world map
The way he can select and pick his weapon from a batch of 9+?
Same goes for Stella.

I hope the storyline is interesting and intrigueng and captivating enough for a change ! bring back my FF !!!!

! bring back my FF !!!!

Indeed Ohri!

The series had better be turned on the success of this game or it might not have much left in its future.........I did some R&d on this game a whil back and came across a Wiki file stating Noct was the leader of a Kazuya tyoe gang and that his friends were muscle of a sort.

This suggest to me the killing of these guys early in the piece to make room for a group of more thought out characters......maybe? They maykeep one who is like a best friend type have him along for the most part.

S-E may be looking to break with tradition and enter the realm of GTA/ Saints Row and confront us with a gang type of game but still mired in traditional FF roots and ideas
Either way Noct is like to be a badass Mother......well you know.

Most people I have seen comment about FFXIII seem to feel it's a disappointment. You see the FFXIII producers coming out defending the game's shortcomings such as lack of towns..saying it's too hard to do this or that for the game.
I hope we don't see those kinds of excuses in Versus.

I am really looking forward to Versus although I am disappointed we didn't see anything about Versus at E3.

Anything that fails to make you appreciate at least 75% of it total content is a disappointment.........its more likely 50% but if it fails it fails. And so far the mail is that FFXIII failed massively..........so much so it hurts!

Expectations were high and they were not met. S-E wanted a mass Sacrifice in FFXIII well they got it it was our..........faith in them!

Too dramatic?

I still don't understand why people hated FFXIII so much. People keep giving their reasons, but I don't feel the same about it. Didn't love-love it, but I still enjoyed it. And I've played the older FF games too, so hate I should have isn't here :ness:

But again, I think Versus will probably be more KH than FF anyways, so as I've said at some point somewhere on the forum, if you honestly hated FFXIII, just quit the series right now, because that seems to be the direction FF will keep heading towards :hmmm:

i agree 100%. This is pretty much how FF is gonna be, so its either stick with it or get lost!

People will always have faith.....in things Fusionist.

Quit the series is what some people may have done........but hope for the future is present in most things and stirs us on, I know we are talking bout a video game here, but people are waiting longer between releases and its accumulates when they are disappointed.

So kudos to you for liking FFXIII I liked it as well but it became very boring over time.

Yes a GOOD (or awesome) FF title is the one you would play more then once...I think FF13 is a one time thing to go through, I doubt anyone finished the game more then once... there might be few of them,..... few.

^ Well, to be fair, how often would you want to play through the same RPG in a row? It's true I haven't played FFXIII after I beat the main story, but that's not to say I'll never play it again. But that's the same for a lot of games for me, so I don't think that sudden re-playability is what makes something a good RPG :hmmm:

Not to mention I only got the game a few months ago. I've owned a few FF games for as long as 8 years, but I still haven't played any of them more than 5 times yet xD

Of course I could just be too busy with other stuff Dx

My main expectation of Versus stems from the fact that most of the development is being handled by the Kingdom Hearts' team. Yeah, I'm a fantard, but I found the standard of that series incredibly high in all aspects (gameplay, story, character, music, over-all designs), so to be honest, I don't really care that the game has "Final Fantasy" title xD
