Why do people say that Yuna is spineless?

Yuna isn't spineless! Goodness, Rinoa is annoying at times, that I'll admit but Yuna isn't ever spineless!

She casted aside thousand of years of tradition as a teenager. She saved the world from Sin. She fought for a second time against an even worst enemy. Never did Yuna even once show a moment of spinelessness.

Yuna and Terra(FFVI),in my opinion are the best female characters in the series (hard to choose between them)..........Maybe the Yuna in FFX-2 is not in my favourite list, but the one in FFX definately is.

In X she went through a lot,and was brave all the way throughout, smiling all the way.She is strong and never gives up for what she wants for herself and the people.

In X-2 however..........She just wanted Tidus

I'd like to know akshually, just how many blonde heroines we have in FF, because iirc the brunettes really out weight the blondes.

...infact 7-10 are all brunettes.

Well, lets see...

IV - Rosa (blonde), Rydia (green)
V - Lenna (pink), Faris (purple? I can't remember)
VI - Terra (blonde), Celes (blonde)
XII - Ashe (blonde), Penelo (blonde)
XIII - Lightning (pink)

For the most part, I think non-brunettes are dominate. I listed multiple characters mainly for those who consider different people the main female lead.

In FFX, Tidus lied to her, she knew, and said nothing. THen he died.

In X-2, Yuna tells the guy who wants to sacrifice himself to fuck off. She's doing things her way.

That's why X Yuna is meek. Perhaps not spineless but certainly a follower more than a leader.

IIRC, Tidus didn't lie to her. He just didn't know. This is assuming you are referring to his encouragement to finish her pilgimmage. And I wouldn't say he died (technically he
never existed. He was a dream.
)

Anyway...

IMO, I view Yuna in the same vein that I view Terra. They are both relatively "weak" characters. I like them both, don't get me wrong. However, I would not call Yuna spineless (Terra too).

I don't see how in the world Yuna is spineless, because she is not. In no way, shape, or form. She became a summoner on her own will. No one forced her to. She was willing to sacrifice herself for the people of Spira. I would be too scared to do something as courageous as that. Not once in the game have I seen her let any walk all over her or make choices for her. Everything she did was her choice. That makes Yuna the strongest female-lead character in the series, IMO. I haven't seen any female-lead character yet go through the hardships Yuna had to face.

I wouldn't call her spineless, just not as independant as some other female characters in Final Fantasy. I don't really like her character (in X OR in X-2) and I think she is a little bit weak. She relies heavily on her companions, more so that other characters I feel. Take Garnet from IX, she was much more independant and I preferred her character to Yuna.
I know she chose her path, etc etc, but she did it because her dad was a summoner. She didn't make many of her own decisions throughout the game. I just think she would have had a better personality if she'd been able to do more for herself.

And there Toshiya lies the deception and cunning of Yevon, she chose mostly he same path as her farther because she felt it was a right thing to do, and a noble thing as well lets not take her Fledgling ego out of the question, the ways of the summoner were usurped by the Yevon religion to compel younger generations to continue the cycle of the Final Aeon.

Not spineless, she chose the most Noble path she could, in web of lies and deception she chose to help people in the way her world would allow her, in our world choosing these to help goes without being notice because it has no ulterior motive outside of doing a good thing

But because Spiras was a land of grief and sadness and Yuna had only one way to make her people happy again, It got noticed more .

@Toshiya: But she didn't have to become a summoner, even if her father was one before her. She could've said ''no'' but she did what was for the best. Also, I didn't see her reliant on her guardians that much. Look at the marriage, Yuna decided to go through with it and then send Seymour. And she planned that without any help from her guardians. She defied the teachings of Yevon and all sorts of things. IMO, that makes her a very strong character.

I feel Yuna was a strong character.
I actually like her more in FFX-2 but she's fine in FFX.
She felt an obligation that she fulfilled when she could have just said no and that took courage.
How many of her detractors could have done the same ?

Well, I would have to say that Yuna is one of the only half-decent FF leading females, and while I wouldn't consider her 'spineless' is most certainly not gold (so to say).

Maybe if she had bothered to fight back once in a while rather then just accepting everything then I might have liked her more, since character's who tend to obsess over their 'duty' and 'destiny' get on my nerves after a while. I mean really, who wants to die, personally, if I had been in that situation I probably would have ended up sacrificibng myself for everyone to but I wouldn't be like, "Oh well, I'm going to die for everyone, but I don't care, it's for the greater good!" don't you think a normal person would be a little more concerned for their impending death?

I think what annoyed me about her is her 'flawless' personality and overall demeanor, she was seriously on the verge (if no so) of being a mary-sue. If she had at least had one moment's of weakness, then maybe I would have liked her more, but no, instead she was overly perfect at just about everything and her resolution could never waver.

And if a character looses their resolution, it doesn't have to make them look whiney, though creators tend to make it look that way, I mean honestly, just because someone gives up for a moment, doesn't mean they have to whine and complain and treat everyone around them like crap.

But whatever, I'm done talking, so like I said, she wasn't the worst character ever and I didn't hate her, but she did get on my nerves at various points in the game. All in all, she wasn't 'spineless' but rather too perfect (which is irking).

look in Yuna's defance, if i were going to my doom i wouldn't want to do to much either just get there, she had been trained how to act and that was for the betterment of mankind. I think also being even abit selfish with that on your shoulders would make her feel guilty even tho she's the one dieing.

I personly have alot of respect for Yuna staying that focused and commited with idiot face breatheing down her neck:fail:
