Why do you like Final Fantasy?

I LOVE Final Fantasy because of the amazing storyline, characters, music and depth that most of the storylines have (or at least i give with crazy theories about their true feelings and such).
However, I play FF for countless hours because of quality RPG gameplay. I am not going to say FFXIII sucked gameplay wise but I really find it a struggle to play it after the storyline (which was beyond epic)

Im too lazy to read all the posts, but if you are jusging the series off FFXIII, then I dont blame you for thinking it's shite, though the story is good, there's little room to do out else, and it gets old. Fast

FF in general - I think, for me it was the story of the game(s) that sucked me in, and after playing XIII, I realised just how much I needed the freedom to explore the world and play sidequests when I need a bit of light relief (I say light relief, its usually hair tearing out frustrating fucking fuckwittery) from the story.

I love FF for the characters and story. It's stories always made me emotional and you could always relate to the characters in some way. Every FF had a moral or theme and while it is a series, each game is different with new characters and a different storyline.

So, those are the reasons why I like the FF series. XD

The first couple of hours of XIII are pretty much tripe. If I wasn't such a huge FF fan I probably would have put the game down then. You aren't properly introduced to the battle system until the plot starts happening and you get to use your paradigms. That will be 2 to 3 hours into the game. I'd give the game that much of a chance, and if you aren't enjoying it after that, give it up as a bad job and save fifty odd hours of your life.

As to all of the items you've got... I'm not sure that anyone else has understood your question yet. I assume you've figured out your weapons and equipment and things like potions and phoenix downs? Well, almost everything else can be used to upgrade your weapons and equipment a little bit down the line, except a few items like credit chips which are good to sell for gil (money). You can't upgrade things yet, but when you can it will be at save points. When you CAN upgrade things it doesn't significantly matter what you use on what, so I wouldn't give any of that much thought, just hang on to the stuff for now. It's a system with a lot of surface complexity but not much substance. When I first started playing XIII, I assumed all that stuff was vendor trash, just stuff to sell for money, which is what it would have been in XII. So I was doing a double facepalm combo after I got to the point you can do upgrades.

As for story things, you have a little log in your menu that will have a sort of encyclopedia of everything that's been explained so far. That should clarify the plot somewhat without spoiling anything.

As a lot of people have mentioned, XIII is a poor representation of FF games. If it's any indication, I think for every other installment (save maybe XI), there will be someone on this forum who loves it and says it's one of their favorite games if not their absolute favorite. While a lot of people here like XIII, I don't see it getting that kind of treatment from anyone. It's a really watered-down FF. They cut out nearly all of the exploration and world building. Except for one area about 3/4s of the way through the game, it is cripplingly linear. What XIII does have going for it is its battles (which is going to sound ridiculous right now, but they do get a lot better) and its plot and characters. Well, and presentation, it does have lovely music and is very pretty. But even so, there are other FFs that do most or all of these things better.

So if you don't like XIII, I would still recommend giving another FF a try. Possibly X, which does a good job in explaining its systems in a way that isn't tedious and has a really great storyline, or VI or VII, which are classics and pretty much magnificent in every way.

And your actual question. Why do I like Final Fantasy? Epic, convoluted plots and plot twists. Casts of characters that I love. Beautiful music. Huge fantasy worlds to explore. All of this in the somewhat unorthodox package of a video game, a medium which makes the whole thing that much more rewarding and involving. More personal.

And if you have any more questions or would like to share your experience with any of these games, come back and let us know, hey?

Did anyone Like the story, but felt like "whats the point if the battles are going to be long and tediouse"

Another way of saying that is "crap"

One of the finer points of this these games was when you were just dragged into a boss fight and the music swept you along and you felt like "oh its on now bitches", and the fight was had a ral sense of victory when complete or failure when lost, still upset you lost but would give it another try.

FFXIII Screwed that up big time!!!....!!!!

When a boss fight starts o this game its like " i will just sit here 20 minutes pressing the X button while I race towards the pointless oucome of this battel", with so many things wrong, and we all know what they are I would think? This game was doomed from the time they made there choices regarding the Paradigm shift system.

Like Beyer said an epic story let down by unfulfilling battles.

"Unfulfilling"? why is that giving the spelt wrong doovey?

I think that FFXIII is the least RPG game ever, cause it loses the meaning of "role-playing" that let you choose, what you'll do,where you'll go,what you'll say etc...
I haven't played it all, cause I rented it to try it,but I did get as far as the Summons go.As we know its strongest point was the graphics no doubt, maybe the story too but still...for me it was hard to get in it and feel the charcters.I felt a bit left out, unlike the other FFs that I feel like I am living inside the games.
For me,no matter how good the story is if I cannot feel it then it won't stay in my memory as something "grand".

As for why I generally like FF,that would be because of the adventure.I'd always want to live such a thing, meet people, become partners with them and save the world.Let alone all the traveling you go to new places and all those people you talk to.Each and everyone has something on their own to tell you and you understand how much effort was put in this game. The characters, usually different from each other, are easy to relate to.It's just so impressive how much a game can offer, sometimes it can even be educational without trying to be.The music is epic of course and it's fun to do side-quests.
The story can cause a variety of emotions and that's one of its strongest point.Usually the FF graphics have always been ahead of its time, but now I realize that even if they were not,the games would still rock.
At first I wasn't a big fan of the random battles, cause I was used to playing more action games so found it kinda dull, but soon you'll appreciate it.I always enjoyed leveling them up,so it becomes addicting.Wish you could go beyond lvl.99.
I got into FF relatively late you could say, because I played the PSX games around 2005 in contrast to others who played them when they had just come out.
I still loved them even them and I am glad I tried them in the first place.Their magic isn't only in the beautiful places you explore in the games but also in the characters and most importantly in the hearts of the people who created them, when they actualy made games cause they enjoyed them and not only for money.
