I just don't understand why hate Cyan as a player character. This guy can counterattack, has swordtechs and is quite useful dispatch away many enemies in my opinion. I just don't understand all this Cyan hate.
I personally have nothing against him, I used him for a bit of the game, but I did find the other characters more worth my while to work with. His story is quite an interesting one, but his ability takes some time to use properly.
I liked Cyan, I liked his interesting story, the way he spoke and I found his relationship with "Sir" Gau humorous.
Battle wise he was one of my stronger characters and served as a major damage dealer for my second party in the final dungeon. One thing that was a little annoying though, was waiting for his SwordTech to power up.
I didn't realise there was any considerable hate towards Cyan. His character and story were great... and he played parts in some of the most memorable scenes. I loved the relationship between him, Sabin and Gau especially.
Fighting wise, to begin with I used him a lot and was liking him. As I got further in the game I used him a little less (probably due to the time it would take to get to move attack 8 each time you wanted to use it). His moves were good, the key to Cyan was patience though. I had this to begin with, and then when other characters started offering strong attacks for not long waiting times, I used him less. I certainly didn't hate him though.
I didn't even know there was Cyan hate...He's got one of the best stories, one of the best themes, and he's exceptionally powerful. Plus, Psycho Cyan FTW!! There should have been a Relic to hurry up his Sword Tech gauge though...
As a character I liked him, he had a good story and I felt sorry for him... he was a really good character imo, I just never used him in battle, I wasn't fond of his swdtech, it took too long to fill up to w/e number you wanted....and Im dying in the meantime
So, as much as I liked his characer, I just didn't like him all that much in battle
Character-wise Cyan was great. He had an excellent story that developed him more than a lot of characters in the FF series. Battle-wise, I wouldn't say he sucked but he definitely wasn't one of the best. I still used him, though.
Not really sure where you're coming from saying that "Everyone hates Cyan". I have yet to run into anyone I've discussed FFVI with that hates him or even remotely dislikes Cyan as a character. I mean, you take a look at what drives him in FFVI and he's got as good of a reason as anyone to have a vendetta out against Kefka. I mean sure it wasn't directly Kefka who poisoned the water that killed his family, but his child and wife were both victims of an act of hatred that caused him to lose his whole family and put him in somewhat a state of madness.
However, Cyan was able to control his anger at least in a civil way and take out his frustration in a manner that benefited everyone by him helping the main party destroy the main villain.
I have never heard of Cyan as a hatable character at all.
I never thought Cyan was a hated character amongst the people. To me, he was one of my favorite characters to use in battle. I enjoyed using his Bushido attacks even though you have to wait for the gauge to get to a certain number you wanted to use. He was passionate about other people who he can relate to when it came to losing a loved one and being there to help them through it.
I fucking loved Cyan. Along with Sabin, he was one of the few characters I could really get behind in Final Fantasy VI. Shadow didn't do it for me. Sorry guys. Cyan is boss. He is class. A pimp among men. He's Hugh Hefner with a katana. Ma'am! *tips hat*
I personally found Cyans story very deep, unfortunatley, It did very little for the battle character...I found him much too slow and sluggish compared to some of the others...
also I found the thou's and thees seemed to grind on me a little bit (shakespeare in school used to grate on me as well )
All in all in though in a Shadow Vs Cyan whos the better id think it comes down to this:
He doesn't bother me but I can see why he may annoy others. The way he speaks, his 'royal' attitude. Personally, I think he has some decent attacks and skills on him.
I'm okay with him.. I didn't think anyone would hate him though, but i didn't particularly like his 'Bushido' technique, which i found considerably useless compared to Sabin's 'Blitz'.
Not that its bad, but i didn't like it that much, thats all.
As a character, i thought he was pretty honourable.. And probably nice to be about, since he's also quite helpful. Really can't see why anyone would hate him, really.
I always use Cyan, once you get all his swd techs they are very handy, quadra slice does so much damage. Yea it does take a while for the attack to prepare but you can get around that by simply letting your other characters attack first, more or less by the time they've finished attacking/magic attack, Cyans technique is ready to go.
I liked him as a character aswell, his story is rather tragic.
Cyan was sort of like a late nineteenth century, English Auron.
I think a lot of people don't like the "charge time" on the Bushido/SwdTech, especially since the higher-level attacks don't seem to be very good anyway. So when I have Cyan, I usually just use Fang or Attack, which means I can only attack one enemy at a time with him, and I don't have much choice of attacks. So I'd prefer someone like Sabin, Edgar, or any of the mages...(YAY TERRA!)
