Why is Kingdom Hearts better than Final Fantasy?

You know, I'm a little confused why people call Kingdom Hearts a Final Fantasy cross-over with Disney. I definitely see the huge amount of Disney influence in KH, but I think I'm missing the FF impact.

True there are FF characters in the game, but they don't make up a great deal of the story. They're not canon to their original counter parts, so it you replace the FF characters with original characters, the story's still the same, right?

Can someone explain, please? :ness:

I'll have to disagree with that statement because I have played KH and I'm going to say the Disney characters were pretty annoying and I didn't like the Disney and Square Enix mix. KH gave me a headache because of the game play but that's just my opinion. I prefer FF anyday over KH.

*Kingdom Hearts -__-

It seems odd to me that Kingdom Hearts is being compared to Final Fantasy. Yes, I've seen the comparisons around... but I don't think one is better than the other.

If I had to choose Square Enix's next project being Kingdom Hearts III or Final Fantasy XV, I'd choose Final Fantasy XV, and I'm not really sure why to be honest. I think I get a little annoyed when the story gets confusing and there are so many different platforms that the games in the series are on. With each new Final Fantasy, there's a whole new world and new characters, so I suppose it would be more exciting to get a whole new game rather than a sequel to Kingdom Hearts.

Kingdom Hearts is in fact one of my favorite games, and it has a special place in my heart, right next to where Final Fantasy is. I love them both as their own games, and if you were to replace the Final Fantasy characters implemented into Kingdom Hearts with original characters, I would love Kingdom Hearts all the same.

I don't think the KH series can be compared to the FF series for numerous reason's they do have some slight similarities in the sense of characters but compared to storylines KHs for me is somewhat lacking. The final fantasys have always have a similar storyline but the general flow has always been different. For instance FFVII typical romance type game but with twists along the way which pulled you to the characters expecially when cloud loses it you get pulled straight in. Same with FFVIII and X with KH i did not get pulled in, sure i loved the disney characters cause i am a fan of disney [have to be with my daughter] and i also love the final fantasy characters and some of the KH ones but other than that it drove me insane, the story was hopping everywhere and whilst it was good to go to different worlds from the movies at the same time you can do that by watching the movies in a small sense or by playing the disney games they released throughout the years on numerous consoles.

For me it just seems like they thought adding FF and disney characters would create a fanbase on it's own and at first maybe it did because of all the hype but i know from a lot of my friends they was put off by the game halfway through because it simply became annoying.

i own both KHS and have completed number 1 only i just cannot be asked to play 2 whereas with FFs i have played them over and over again they just ooze in gameplay even when you know what is happening throughout the story,

Also maybe it was just me but half of the characters in KHs i would have love to punch in the head, yeah not a good thing to say concidering i like disney because they seriously became annoying, alice in wonderland.... never again!!! irritated me to hell.

The characters just seemed to be everywhere in KHS whereas in FFs they have stories look at FF7 in sector 7 there was such a huge connection in there through them all working together to bring down shinra, tifa and cloud knew each other, cloud knew zack, who knew aerith they was all linked throughout the game. Then in FF8 squall. zell. irvine, quistis, selphie and seifer were all linked together with cid and edea right from the start, laguna knew julia who had rinoa, we know how squall came to be and he then met rinoa everything just seemed so very much in place.

With KH it was just world after world and of course they linked but other than the three main characters everything else just seemed out of place. To me it just seems like they rushed the whole idea of the route they wanted the game to go down and just thought adding those worlds, characters from ff and disney would be enough with some random bad guys i mean no offence but the whole "heartless" and the "darkness" to me has been done before in one form or another.

but they are all good games in there own rights and it all depends on the players personal choice. i know ppl who would love kh but not ff and vice versa guess it boils down to personal choice. XD

I personlly didn't like the KH series that much, Granted it was pretty good and some of the characters i liked alot(Kairi) but the thing that wrecked it for me is Disney.
When i first saw KH2 (i did'nt know about KH1 at the time) i thought to myself Disney took my childhood from me and locked up in some dark basement why does it need to take my RPG's as well:gonk:.

No offense, but this Thread really sounds like a tease. Maybe because it's a mainstream Final Fantasy Forum have that suspicion inside. Like your trying to provoke us all to create anger..

Don't really understand your theory that Disney storylines are better. Because minus the Lion King, which is really a rip from the Kimba the white lion anime, all the Disney storylines are from children fairy tale books, or Grim Brothers stories like Snow White which have been toned down to suit a family audience. Yes, they are a little different. But Disney didn't have much to change.

The Final Fantasy storylines, they are all created new and fresh on a pen and paper and from the compaines own imagination and own heads. They didn't already come from a original source like most of the Disney movies...

Final Fantasy I and III are kind of the same, but that was because Final Fantasy is a video game that was made in the late 80s and it was very difficult to make a creative storyline back then. Square had a lack of graphic and sound space and their storylines had to be simple. But Final Fantasy I despite being made on a basic and complexed console, has one of the most creative villains of all time. Have you heard of a villain that was created before 87 , that jinxed with time and controlled past, present, and future ?. Garland will rule during your time on earth, your son's time on earth, and his great great great great great great great great great great grandsons time on earth, and he wants to rule with a terrible iron fist and destroy the rivers and waters of the land and there is no escaping him. How Terrible, is that ?

Have to admit here that some Final Fantasy games have taken things from the Bible and Dante's Divide Comedy, but unlike the Disney movies it's very little. Like the whole storyline isn't based on the Divide Comedy poem or the Bible. There will be a character or a town or a placename that is familiar to it. And Greek legends too, with the summons. But then again, it's very little...

Don't believe in your statement that Final Fantasy games are the same over and over again. If they were. Take Final Fantasy VIII for a example. Each time, each Final Fantasy you will gain a new character and he/ she will enter a random highschool/ Garden and will become a solider or a SeeD. And He/ She will fight another evil random sorceress and for each final boss you would warp into time to defeat the evil sorceress. Next Final Fantasy, repeat the process. But it's not like that, at all !~

Man for one Final Fantasy the main character is a loyal knight who feels guilty about what he is doing in his life. Then the next Final Fantasy game, the main character is a loud, hyperactive teenager who plays sport underwater and then all of a sudden gets warped into time. By a Giant Fish !..

I love the Kingdom Hearts series, and seriously can't wait for Birth by Sleep and KH3 and is still really fond of some Disney movies, but just disagree with your statement about the Final Fantasy series lacking in originality. Especially when in the Kingdom Hearts games you have the main character each time, unless it's a spin off.
And for both KH 1 and KH 2, you went around to Disney Words and some of them twice. And ended up meeting up with random poplaur Disney characters, the Disney villain caused mischief, then you ended up locking a door or a gateway, and off to a new world. repeat the process. Final Fantasy was never that linear, and the series can be grated to be unpredictable...

The Kingdom Hearts are really amazing if your at a certain age, but it can be really embarrassing to play somewhat if you at a age where it is considered strange to play Disney games. Espically if you are 30 and is about to get married and you have a part-time job. But the Final Fantasy series can stay with you forever. No matter what age you are, you can be free to just randomly sit down, chew on a biscuit and grab the PlayStation 2 for a while. Final Fantasy has the magic of staying with you forever, while the Kingdom Hearts and Disney movies can only stay with you for a short period of time until you decide to mature and then they just become a memory..

I have to admit, at first I really didn’t like the idea of KH(what was so appealing about summoning a cartoon flying elephant?…What a great introduction for the game{my brother told me that FIRST})…Until, of course, I tried it for myself. Then BOOM! After KH I was already an addicted KH fan. Now I’m really looking forward to other KH games, esecially 358/2 days(such a mouthful) for my DS!!!

I have to admit I was the same way, I thought it would be terrible because disney characters would make the game so childish that I could possibly go abit insane, no but really I thought it wouldn't appeal to me, but one christmas my father bought it for me for christmas so when I opened it I was like wtf? but after playing it, my dad made a good dicision lol, it was quite addicting after goofy and donald joined the team, though I wouldn't say it's better than final fantasy, every final fantasy is pretty different which is sweet.

Kingdom Hearts generally has better characters, music and presentation than most FF games. Key word is "most".

Since the gameplay itself is pretty pitiful in comparison, whether these plotline elements are worth the cost of purchase is up to you.

Nobody would play a kingdom hearts with just Disney Characters! I don't really think I like this comparison much anyways. it's obvious that FF wins.-it's the original.

I think you are dead wrong there. Kingdom Hearts is at its core a game designed for casual western audiences with its simple and easy real time combat system, its abundance of disney characters, and relatively high profile american actors doing the voice overs. If it wasn't for the Disney characters, I doubt Kingdom Hearts would be more than half as popular as it is today.

Anyway I think Kingdom Hearts is rubbish. The level design was absolutely horrid, the combat system was mostly senseless button smashing and usually gave you the worst camera angle imaginable, the gummi ship thing was terrible, and the storyline was a bit too simple and childish for my liking.

i think the inclusion of disney characters, the gameplay, final fantasy characters, and the story pretty much makes it an epic series over final fantasy, but, its really in your own opinions,i like it more than final fantasy though

For me personally, I consider Dragon Quest the better franchise over Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy. I've never really been able to get into Kingdom Hearts and the massive changes to the recent Final Fantasy games have turned me off that series.

With Dragon Quest, I love the monster designs, the way most of the games are presented(IV's chapter system, V's storyline that follows the main character's life), the character designs, and the way Dragon Quest is willing to cling to tradition and not change everything with every new game that comes out. I know that's a weakness for most people, but I love the fact that I can pick up any Dragon Quest game(aside from IX) and have a familiar battle system.

However, I will say that all three series are important when it comes to the history of RPGs. Dragon Quest created the genre and helped define many of the conventions that JRPGS use to this day. Final Fantasy refined many of the things that Dragon Quest introduced and gave us games with deep story lines. You also can't ignore that Final Fantasy was the series that finally made JRPGs an important genre in the West.

As for Kingdom Hearts, it introduced many people to the genre that would have otherwise ignored it.

I personally thought KH sucked. So my opinion is obviously different. It's more of an action-roleplaying game. If I was going to play one of those though then I would play God of War or something that I like more. I havent really cared for the KH storyline, but I have only played two of them. The gameplay really isn't all that exceptional when compared to other action adventure games in my opinion, and the childish feel to it is a huge turn off in my opinion.
