My Mom got me Advent Children a few Christmases ago, and I watched it early today, and it made me wonder something- Why is it just VII that gets a movie and other material? I mean, I know it's Uber Popular, but when other Final Fantasy Games lay untouched since they came out, can we at least get a short little anime package for the others? Just touching on the worlds? It makes me sad to think that the only new FFVI I'm getting are the fan-made FFVI-FMA Openings.

to be fair, 4, 10, 11 ,12/Tactics, 13, and Crystal Chronicles get that treatment. (Though only 7 had the movie....)

Exactly! Not only does 7 have the movie, it also has Last Order. Why can't they do this for the rest? I'd love to see an animated Cecil, Animated Kefka, Animated Exdeath, and the rest of FF.

It's the most popular and it as a bigger legion of fans then all other Final Fantasy games, that's why they try to take profit of it as much as they can, and make movies and extra games and so on...

That's just how big Final Fantasy VII is, now if you ask me i think it's overrated but apparently there are a bunch of people around the world who don't think it is, as the number of sells will tell you.

Waht he said, Ive never seen anyone wank over a game to the level that FFVII gets wanked over, so it was a sure profit for Squenix really. It was always going to be a hit because the fanboys will just lap it up regardless

I know I bought the spin offs and Advent children (TWICE :rage: ) without caring about what it would be like

So there's your answer. Idiots like me will buy the stuff even if it's the biggest pile of crap ever

That's because there's an evil conspiracy involving FF7 taking over the world. That wasn't funny was it?

Anyway, what everyone else said. Everyone who loves this game, loves it to the point of obession, and most are delusional as to the actual quality of anything that bears the FF7 logo. I personally detest FF7, 8's my favorite, but I can still say that the base game, the orginal, was okay. Now, with all the spinoffs, it's doomed to the same fate as Twilight, to become another thing that the fans of it ruined for me. All though, I've never heard of FF7 fans using a baseball bat to reinforce their views, but I digress.

To conclude, I don't really understand Square's logic behind it. Since there's yet to be a real commercial failure with any of the core FF games, why focus only on one. I would say that there's a wealth of fortune just waiting to be tapped in fans of the other games.

SE is a business corporation that needs money to stand on its two feet. Therefore they wouldn't say no to the chance of cash-cowing in on their franchise. That's one of the things I both understand, but also detest about Square Enix. They have milked so much of FFVII that it is now becoming extremely tedious. Dirge of Cerberus was terrible, I have not seen Last Order or read the (Japanese) novelisations, and Advent Children was average at least. Crisis Core was the best out of the spin offs, but by no means is it perfect.

FFVII is the one milked the most because not only was it popular, but because it's such a nostalgia-invoking game. It was the game that brought RPGs to the masses in the west. To SE, they assume that FFVII is the most memorable and popular to the west because of its success here. Therefore it makes sense to them to use milk FFVII out of the other games due to its fame.

Basically what Bambi said. FFVII fanboys will buy anything FFVII related no matter how full of fail it is. It could be about Cloud attempting to save the characters from "My Little Pony's" and they would eat that shit up.

SE makes tons of money off of them, so of course they're going to milk them for every penny that their worth.

Way I see it, VII was the first one they could make spin-offs of. Before, the games were great, but didn't reach such a large audience. After the big remake I have heard soooooo much about, I imagine that will change.

yes, Legend of the Crystals was released in USA just not on dvd

xD

Anyways, They didn't JUST spin-off VII. remember that piece of crap X-2? (that met my fireplace xD)
But it was the biggest of the series because everyone loves Cloud (ahem the storyline i mean), So they saw an opening for some severe money, So SE took advantage of that and ripped out loads of Spin-Offs.

At least thats what I think happened.

Final Fantasy VII was a best-seller and quickly became the staple of the series. It had the most memorable moments and to a lot of people the most memorable characters out of any of the Final Fantasy games. It became victim to so much hype and popularity that is it easily the most overrated game of the entire Final Fantasy series. I know people who will never play this game because the hype is so over the top they're convinced they won't like it because it won't live up to the kind of hype generated around it. And they won't find it as enjoyable.

Square saw this and decided to make as much money as they can from it. Fans wanted more out of this world? They made a movie out of it. The fans still wanted more? They gave them Vincent Valentine to star in his own game. The fans still wanted more? They threw prequels and a better version of the movie they released a couple of years ago at them. The fans are still hungry for more? Let tease them about a possible remake for the PS3 while we decide if we really want to do it.

They did the same with FFX by giving it a video game sequel/spin off but that was a flop. The others I'll assume are creating a great profit because they made so many of them. And I'm sure Square will continue to make them as long as they're a high demand for them.

I personally think X was better than VII, because VII comes in second in my mind but I can see why others would think VII was the greatest, and it probably is the greatest solely due to the fact that it made the most money from what I've seen.

Now, with all the spinoffs, it's doomed to the same fate as Twilight, to become another thing that the fans of it ruined for me.

This, with the fans ruining it, this so much :mokken: The disproportionate amount of attention given to FFVII is owed largely to the fact that for some reason, a large portion of its fans have decided to draw a few pieces of the game out into an obsession, rather than taking the story for what it's worth as a whole, and the particular things they obsess over are incredibly commercializable (actual word? :hmmm:). Cloud vs Sephiroth, and the (IMO nonexistent) "love triangle" between Cloud-Aeris-Tifa, seem to have become the main features of the game in the popular eye, even though the story was so much more than that. And it so happens that badass villains and love stories tend to be the most popular features in a lot of media, so SE has created extra materials to cater to those fans' cravings for it. (I mean honestly, look at who had the most screen time in Advent Children, and then at all the other characters who had almost none >_>) Really, the timing of the game's release and the situation has to be the only reason for it to have gotten so ultra-popular; for example, I think if IV had been released in the same coordinates of time and the same situation and whatever, everyone would be obsessing over Cecil vs. Golbez, and the love triangle between Cecil-Rosa-Kain, instead. So in short, VII wasn't the only game to have popular exciting elements; however, the circumstances of its release I think have allowed it to become vastly more popular than the other ones (with the exception of X).

agreement

you may very well be right gamingway. if any other ff game came out when ff7 did, it may just as well have gotten the same attention as ff7 did, but we will never know now will we? the reason ff7 had so many spinoffs, ( I'M QUOTING A COMMENTATOR FROM THE ACC BLURAY SPECIAL FEATURES), is because it sold so many copies and people thought that it was such an epic game,(WHICH IT WAS), that fans demanded a sequel, thus advent children was created, and then things just escalated from there.
