Why we wont have a 'good' final fantasy game anymore

I'm not sure that "the majority" of Final Fantasy fans hated XII. Yes, there are people who dislike it, but it still sold well, there's a thriving thread on it here and many other sites. Also, not everybody played the FF series in order- I played X-2 before X and X-2 made me want to play X (that and having a conversation with the bloke in the local game shop where I kept popping in to see if they had any more FF games), and yeah, I enjoyed X-2 in a cheesefest kinda way. When I played X I was blown away, and although I prefer X to X-2, X-2 did not, in my opinion, ruin X in any way.

I also think you're wrong about 75% of fans hating Square Enix- it seems very high for a fanbase who love the games. If they hated them that much, they wouldn't buy the new games, however XIII sold well- I don't think that this is only 25% of the fanbase buying the game. If people hated the company as much as you claim, they'd boycott it. But they're still willing to try the games, meaning that their faith in the company hasn't been completely shattered.

I completely agree with the internet being the main source of why people hate stuff nowadays. People seem to forget how to form opinions on their own. Instead, they take what ever other people say and morph it to sound like their own opinion, usually because it's the "cool thing to do". Any more it's hard to tell the difference between someone who genuinely dislikes something and someone who dislikes something to fit in with a group of people.

I do agree with much of what you say.
But to me, I think everything depends on Versus. There are so many high expectations for this game.
SE has heard our complaints. We don't want it too linear, we want likable characters with depth, etc.
So if Versus is as good as the trailers make it to be, I will still have confidence in SE. If it turns out to be sucky as well, I must agree and say they are lost.

This is part of the problem. If people would stop holding games to such high expectations, we wouldn't have these so called "failures".

I have a pretty good idea of what is going to happen. All these people right now are pretty much saying Versus will save FF or that it will be a return to all the things we love about FF. However, when the game comes out, it will fall just short of those expectations that the FANS themselves set. In the end, they'll only have themselves to blame for the disappointment they experienced.

I agree with this. There is a such thing as the silent majority. I love FFIV, but I don't go every where spouting my love for it. It's usually the haters (which are usually the minority) that hate on something every chance they get. You also have to keep in mind that you can't base anything upon this forum. There is a lot of XIII hate around here, but because there is that much XIII hate on this forum, it doesn't mean that's what most FF fans believe.

I believe that we don't have a bad Final Fantasy game, I just think that we raise our expectations to to much. Because our expectation are to high, when our expectations are not all achieved... we tend to find the negative parts of the game rather than highlighting the positive parts. (I may be wrong because I still haven't played FF X-2 and XIII/XIII-2)
* Looking forward to FF XIII Versus, FF Type-0, DS Remake of FF 5 and FF 6)
