Worried about the Hype?

This si the first time since FFVIII I've actually been excited about the release of an FF game and so I am a bit worried in case it doesn't live up to my expectations. I never really get wrapped up in game hype from others so I don't really care how good others think it's going to be and then feel disappointed if it's not, it's only myself I worry about.

From the little I've seen though I do think it looks absolutely awesome and I jsut hope that it's the case when the game is actually released too. The long awaited release date isn't exactly helping me out though either.

So as I was reading some posts the other day I stopped and asked myself if all this hype we, as a gaming community, are giving FFXIII will destroy the game? I mean, it seems like people keep talking about the same topics presented in these 5 minute clips of the game.
In my opinion, I think that FFXIII will be just as good as people are all hyped up about. I mean, graphics wise is for sure. The thing that worries me the most is the other features of the game. Such as the battle system. It seems cool but from the look of it, it seems very complicated. The characters i think will be exciting to see develop. As for the storyline, i'm not too sure on that.
Don't get me wrong, I'm in the same boat. I watch those trailers at least once a week. I just feel like maybe this time it's been taken too far? (the hype i mean)
I see what you mean. This game for sure is the most hyped about Final Fantasy game i have seen in my life. I can't believe how many people are really excited to see it. I am thats for sure.
I feel like matters have been made worse too, what with each installment taking longer and longer to make, gamers wait longer and longer.
I always think, the longer it takes the more detail and quality there is in the game.
And is Square-Enix to blame? for putting out trailers/images for this game nearly half a decade before it being released?
Well this is what Square-Enix wants. You know as soon as the game comes out, nearly every Final Fantasy fan will be there to buy it because of all the things they have seen in the trailers.
So is giving the game all this hype a bad thing? and if so, how can we stop it? is it even possible to stop it?
I don't see it being bad for Square Enix.. For the people, it can very well be bad to them because of the excitement they get waiting for it to come out and it turning out to be shit. You can't really stop the hype from happening. It's just the way more games turn out.

I'm actually getting pretty worried about all the hype. Usually when games are hyped too much, it turns out to be a big flop, or something that wasn't quite up with everyone's expectations(because we set them too high). I think its better if people keep the hype low so that if the game turns out to be not that great, they won't be too disappointed.
I've done this a lot of times, and the times my expectations are not met I get let down big time.

The game does look good btw.

Im worried in all honesty. 12 created such great hype and to me it was a bit of a let down and not amazing as it was thought to be. We all recieve games on different levels and that one flopped for me. I dont like getting my hopes up with anything in life and I dont want to be dissapointed by it.

saw the graphics of the demo...amazing
the battle system...looks like x-2 + xenogears....also beautiful
i think even if the story sucks, the game is good enough for me for just those two things.

I myself am not worried about the hype because I don't ever let myself get that involved.

That way I'm not disappointed and I don't have any real expectations of the game at all.

I mean I can see why some people will be disappointed if this is a flop. FFXII wasn't that great as they made it out to be and to be disappointed again may have some people stray away from the series all together.

However, it's really what you make of the game in the end. There will obviously be a lot of hype for game series that are renowned for being great before it's released.

They want everyone to know beforehand that this latest installment of Final Fantasy is being launched in 3 years and that we should all watch out for it! I suppose to keep existing fans interested and eager to buy the next installment.

I feel I'm rambling now. 3:15 am it is here gosh.

Anyway I think that if you're getting worried simply over the hype then you're way too involved and shouldn't be getting so obsessed before it's even released. XD I don't even watch that many game trailers or play demos. That's the kinda thing spoils it in the end really, not the hype.

Well here's my thinking.

Tne gaming community as a whole (magazines, companies, etc) do NOT usually allow themselves to judge games under the influence of hype. Look at XII. In it's own right, it is a more than decent game, but not brilliant by any standard. Most people are disappointed because it's an FF game, and there was hype around it. I myself felt very angry and disappointed. (I still think it's very flawed). But if you look at official reviews etc, it got 8's and 9's outta ten.

So, I think the only way it can feel like a disappointment, is if individuals hype it up for themselves too much. Don't be expecting a near-masterpiece, after all FF has only ever made two of those (VII and X).

I have to really agree with Heathen.
The truth is, I never really got hyped up about any of the games in the Final Fantasy series. In fact, I didn't even ever plan on buying XII, partly because I didn't like how Vaan looked, and the battle system seemed a little odd to me. But, in the end, like what always happens, I found a few videos on Youtube, saw the game, and decided that it looked interesting-enough that I'd give a shot at it.

And I found out that I really liked it. Yeah, there were a few flaws in the game, and I still don't think that battle system quite fits the Final Fantasy name, but I honestly thought it was a great game.

The trick is really not to expect a lot. XIII is going to be a great game, sure, but it's not going to be perfect. The story and the voice acting will probably have some dodgy parts, the battle system probably won't be mind-blowing, and there are probably going to be some decisions made by the designers that not all fans will agree with. I don't mean to preach, or bring up stuff that's already been said. I'm just trying to say, "Don't get too hyped up."
That way, when the game finally does come out, we'll all be amazed by it. Not blown away, but just amazed.

I think the hype's gonna lead to dissapointment. According to the preview on a magazine (forgot) 80 percent said they were jizzed. That's a lot of people. And it was only a short demo. So you couldn't really have a deeper taste of what it's gonna be like until it's out, if it is a dissapointment, they could have changed some features if they had a longer demo and people decided to send in feedback.

Well, becoming too excited can lead to some serious disappointment. If FFXIII is actually an epic fail, then, yeah, the excitement was for nothing. I myself am looking forward to this game, but I'm making sure to prepare myself for the worst, if it ever does happen.

The demo released was an old version, and I'm pretty sure they tweaked it after seeing the new trailers. The gameplay and graphics look very good now. My only worry is the story. This is where a lot of games tend to stumble. Hopefully SE will provide new & old fans something about FFXIII worth remembering.

I think if you let yourself than yes. For me I will be disappointed if it isn't great but at the same time I will understand that it wasn't made to my ideals.
I agree though it does seems like the wait for the game and when the game comes out really does effect it. By the time the game comes out it could feel like it's been watched so many times and it's getting old but really it's how you like to look at it.

This is just from my point of view. I could be really wrong:
It seems the FF community doesn´t give this game too much hype (which is good). I believe there was more hype over FFX and FFXII than this one. Me myself is trying to think that Final Fantasy XIII will suck. That way it may be better when I buy and play it (which is also negative in a way).

I doubt the hype will "destroy" this game. I mean I started getting hyped for the release of FFXII back in 2002 after FFX was out for sale for a few months. I waited for FFXII as many of you did as well for quite a long time since FFXI was online only.

I think it will get us excited to play the game, check out some of the characters and a quick intro to the plot and all, but I doubt it will let us down. We do have to remember though that it is the first full out FF game released only on a next gen console and many improvements will be shown. It is still an experiment with every game that is released. It won't be any FFVII, but it will be a brand new adventure all over again for us FF fans.
