Lightning Returns Worse than XIII-2?

. As RPGs story is a key aspect of tthe games.

The fact is it shows how little ppl care. And it also shows how well received the. Previous game had. Xiii didn't even received half of its initial sales when itt came to 13-2.

RPG story is important yes.

Sorry, but I am a little confused at what you are saying with your next sentence here? Are you saying because XIII-2 did almost half the sales that XIII did, that means no one really cared for it and that XIII: LR sales are reflecting the story?

Also RPG's need to take more than story involved into them.

You could have great story, but if you don't show it properly, or the gameplay is bad, then I think the game overall will fail.

Little people caring about a game doesn't mean the game is bad. I'm not saying LR is a good game, I'm saying I haven't played it so I don't know, and anybody else who hasn't played it doesn't know either. I have an idea that it's probably not going to be good, but that's just based on its promotion and where previous games have gone. Thinking a game will be bad is not the same as knowing it is. That's why I still say that initial sales of a game don't show if the game is good or not. They show how interested people are in the game, they show how good a job promotion has done to incite interest and they show in a series how well received the previous titles were.

This I can agree with, but at the same time I don't expect people to get XIII:LR if they didn't like XIII or XIII-2.... I mean if people didn't like X why would they get X-2 :wacky: or if they didn't like VII why get VII:DoC or Crisis Core? :wacky:

In the end, I guess it comes down to how you liked the series to begin with if you are going even attempt to try and play this game.

The first game was, personally, amazing. The story was well-crafted, and the mythos encompassing it was genius. I feel they should have left it with this title, and just moved on to XIV.

Then came XIII-2, which I had high hopes for. I did keep in mind that most sequels don't live up to their predecessors, though. The result was far worse than just "not living up to XIII." While the time travel element is appealing, it was messy in its presentation. The characters were shallow, the story was too convoluted, and so on.

I'll end up trying LR, simply for the fact that it's a part of the series. I won't go in having those same high hopes that I had for XIII-2, though.

They couldn't expect much since nobody wanted them to make the sequels. I guess people were just pretty angry.

That being said, I'm still gonna play the game. After all, there's not much FF to go around :/

Yeah, theres FFXIV. that game alone is plenty of FF. also, who says we need that FF. we as a fan have to have standards. or else we'll be feeding off the shoes of SE, specifically: Toriyama's shoe.

I will say this, if you didn't like XIII, got XIII-2 and didn't like that game... why would you get XIII: LR? :wacky:

You should really put this in bold huge letters next time. So much this. There are just so much haters of the XIII series on this forum and it would be more than hypocritical for them to buy all three games in the series even for a low price. :wacky:

I think I am in that small 10% of this forum that actually does not mind the games. I just found them to be a 6/10 or more and definitely not any 8/10 material.

I think it is ultimately funny how much people hate on the games and then just buy them. :lew:

I rented XIII-2 for the sake of giving it a chance. and i intend to do the same with LR:FFXIII , but in general the idea is to give a full in-depth opinion on the series, rather than saying "i hate XIII, and i think XIII-2 sucks, and i dont care if i never played it, it just sucks".

pure ignorance.

I don't think it's completely hypocritical for some. I think true veteran players would still like to attempt the entire XIII universe, regardless of their opinion on it, to get the full experience. (Like myself.)

Then, at least they can say they gave it a shot before coming to a final conclusion. :ryan:

What do you mean by "Veteran players” You are a bit new to the forum so you probably have not seen the hate that goes around for the XIII games. Their opinions are also the same thing every time! Shace made a good point up there and that is precisely why I quoted him. If you hate the series so much that you are not willing to understand anything and just bash it completely, you probably should not be buying the sequels.

Playing to see if it gets any worse is not an excuse.

Assumptions, assumptions, assumptions.

The only reason the game is on my radar at all is because this time the "world-driven" game design approach sounds more like something I can get behind. Sans the finite time mechanic, the idea of a game world revolving more around exploration with a combat system that promises to be more involving and challenging than the ol' auto-battle/paradigm shift/stagger setup of the last two games piques interest. Or at least curiosity. If this game looks to play almost exactly like the last two, there's no way in hell I would bother. I would just watch the cutscenes online when I'm bored and laugh at them from there.

But yes, of course. people like me can't possibly have a sensible reason for being even slightly interested in this game. Oh no, even if I do, it's clearly to laugh and see how much worse it can get. I am glad people like you are here to determine what I should get or not get. Mhm.

I'm one of the (seemingly) exceptionally rare people who loathed XIII but loved XIII-2. Now, after XIII I had no reason to buy XIII-2 and I didn't for the longest time, assuming I wouldn't enjoy it any more than the first one. But after a while I realised that it wasn't fair of me to judge the sequel entirely on the first game without even trying it myself. So I went ahead and got it, and I absolutely loved it. Am I a hypocrite just because I bought a sequel to a game I hated? I'd seen nothing that made me think I'd like XIII-2 more than XIII, but I figured I'd give it a shot, and I was really pleasantly surprised.

So when it comes to LR I really don't think it looks good, and I have a feeling I won't like it much at all, but I'll probably get it because I don't want to sit here and give presumptions and judgements on a game I haven't played. Don't think that makes me a hypocrite at all.

Veteran players means players who played older FF games.

I think Aerolesque doesn't need to know how much hate there is, to know that there's hate in general.

And if our opinions are always the same...maybe you should consider why their the same.

Also, i doubt anyone would be "buying" it. Miyuki, i think you know the answer, but trying to act like it was never said and acting like you still hold a point.

I agree, haters should not be buying the games. but who says we are? i never bought XIII-2, and i certainly wont buy Lightning Returns. But also who says we need to?

If their buying it, that means they'll be giving it a chance. even if it might end up to the same answer. Now....LR obviously will have a different set of issues. but i think even fans can understand that the series itself has the same issue, and that overall as a whole, its not a series that you can appreciate.

you can appreciate each game individually, but if you try to connect them together, it doesn't add up. Even FF13 fansite Nova Crystallis (the site that SE themselves vouches for them with early releases thinking they'll praise them) gave it a 5/10.

I'm currently in the process of playing this game as we speak(just got it today as a matter of fact) and its definitely different than the other games thats for sure. I'm not really entirely sure how much I love the whole "time" aspect to the game. I actually in fact hate timed anything. I feel it limits any exploration and being able to truly enjoy a game. Atleast for me anyways it does because I always am fretting and worrying about not making it when I'm supposed to. Timed missions and timed gameplay quite simply, fucking sucks.
That being said I'll still keep playing and see how the story plays out.

I liked it. I don't really have any complaints about the game, but I have plenty of complaints about FFXIII and FFXIII-2.

I mean I guess that I wish that so many of the garbs didn't look like shit, but that's about it.

theres plenty of time to do everything you want, idk how far u r into the game, i havnt even finished it yet, but i can guarantee theres plenty of time for exploration im on day 6 almost day 7 and ive done about as much exploration as there is to do :P

Well after playing it twice because I ran out of time the first time (I managed to not take notice of the days and done quests that took forever for little reward) Upon second playthrough I managed to beat it under an extra 10 hours including all the quests I done last time and more (items for canvas stuff carry over etc). The end boss I mucked up before entering with my schema system, but I managed to beat him first go. The ending was no where near as bad as what everyone made out to be, and the final cutscene was beautiful (S-E sure know how to do CGI :P)

And about the ending Spoiler....

I believe Lightning may turn up in some cameo role in FF15, due to the fact you can blatantly tell she is in France at the end of the game. FF15 is based off of reality and I doubt they have considered changing the connection the game was meant to have alongside FFXIII. I mean she cameo roled in FF14 albeit an event of some sort and FF14 was even referenced in LR:FFXIII (With one of the Garbs being from FF14 Lightning says "I would love to see a that realm one day") Personally I wouldn't mind her being in it as a cameo as I don't mind her character. And now well shes more powerful than god pretty much.

Yeah, I completely agree that the ending was beautiful! I thought it was a great ending, don't understand why many hate on it. To each their own!

Did you beat both of the "secret" bosses? One is the black circle that wanders around Dead Dunes (when you attack it its a huge dragon. Not sure of the US name. In Japan, its called Aironeito). The other is in the hidden dungeon in Dead Dunes.

Ive been playing off my friend despite how reluctant i was. for some reason i'm getting a mana vibe from this game, although thats not an entirely bad thing, but i simply don't want to progress through the story, and i feel forced due to time management. my ears bleed when i hear Lightning's voice and its not because its lightning, but because Lightning is completely different. She's Samus from Metroid: other M, the boring, and horrible monologues.

granted this game does have some nice battles, but i feel like the only reason i want to kill them is to get them extinct. the costumes don't interest me, customizing them feels all the same to me, and since i'm more of a completionist than a collector, i'm not really interested in making much changes. granted certain ones do offer interesting attacks, but not all of them, most of them have the same attacks.

I'm really not that far into the game though. lightning looks prettier, younger even.
