FFXIII-2 XIII-3: To be or not to be? (SPOILERS)

I'd personally rather have DLC. I'm getting tired of XIII already... and it hasn't even been that long. -_-;;
It's just that I feel that it's gone on for too long.
...and I secretly hoped for a XII-2...with Fran and Balthier... T_T I CAN DREAM CAN'T I??!!!
But, if it does happen, I hope it won't be too much of a let down.

Considering that XIII-2 came out on December 15th and still managed to be 5th best selling, with sales from those 2 weeks in Japan alone being around 700,00, I'm going to go ahead and say it's done pretty well. Also, X-2 managed 4 million in 9 months throughout the world.

It's too early to say whether XIII-2 will make as much as the games before it. X-2 did not, it managed 4 million where the games normally get 6 million. I'm not going to argue about it because I feel it's too early to see how good the sales are, I only suspect they'll not be so good.

Xx..xX

4 million copies isn't exactly to be sneezed at, even if it's not as much as some other games in the series. Also X was not 'universally liked', I don't think any FF game has ever been universally liked (though VI and VII come close).

Yeah, to reiterate, while FFXIII-2's numbers are pretty damn good for your average game, they're very disappointing in Final Fantasy standards. Without that chart with me (I would have to track it down again), I think FFXIII-2 roughly managed a third of what FFXIII managed in Japan in the first week. It didn't even sell the initial shipment numbers in Japan. I haven't seen western numbers, because frankly, I don't give a crap about how well it's selling, asides from its one-week No. 1 reign in the charts in the UK. So it's done pretty good, yet disappointing at the same time.

Which is probably another reason why there might not be a FFXIII-3. I can see the sales figures for that dropping even further, considering no one ever asked for a third game in the series and banked on FFXIII-2 being the full closure to Lightning's and Serah's stories. With that aside, what can you do with FFXIII-3? More time travelling? For storyline purposes, that's kind of out of the question. For similar storyline purposes, you'll probably get a really short but gloomy linear corridor game again. I doubt anyone would want one. A series of sidestories? DLC can cover that. Sure, people will be pissed that they may have to pay to get an actual closure, but they'll probably still get the DLC eventually.

@LibraryOnTheMoon, your post made me think... :hmmm:

SPOILER ALERT!
Could Lightning have sacrificed herself to save the world?

I know this doesn't fit in entirely with Caius' secret ending, but:
a) that could be a paradox ending
b) Caius could be trapped in a false reality
c) it could be Caius' 'heaven' after death
d) Lightning could have freed Yuel and/or Serah taking over Yuel's role could have freed Yuel.

Let's suppose time HAS been destroyed...

If Serah is reincarnated, she will no doubt be reincarnated in Valhalla so there could be a third game about her saving time. The only question is, who would Serah fight with? I suppose there is another option.

e) The world could have been perseved but could be trapped in an eternal state, meaning nothing can age or progress. XIII-3 could then be about restoring time. Noel, Hope, Sahz and co would all still be alive. However, I would assume only those who were alive presently and within the real timeline would be present, meaning, I guess, that Snow could be lost forever.

If the world has been destroyed, could Serah extract Lightning's spirit from her Crystal in a way similar to how she uses monsters from Crystals?

I think Snow didn't disappear from the timeline. After the paradox in Sunleth is solved, I believe he is automatically placed in the area he is supposed to be, in his 'fate' when Royal Ripeness doesn't exist.

Think about it. If Royal Ripeness doesn't exist, Lightning would not need to ask someone to protect cocoon's crystal. Therefore, Snow won't dream of Lightning instructing him to travel to Sunleth. Snow would simply follow his own instincts, and possibly end up in Academia 4XX to stop Alyssa. Whether Noel and Serah actually meets him in Academia depends on your choice (paradox ending or not). In the canon timeline, Serah and Noel have entered the gate before Snow could meet them. That's what I think anyway. So Snow IS most likely there somewhere.

So I just beat the game..
So do you guys think there will be a 13-3? or just the DLCs..no way can they fit it in a dlc imo

*Threads merged*

The DLC news so far do not seem to hint at any form of actual continuation, besides midquels.
MVP Oh and you may want to explore this thread for others' opinions.

lol i sure as hell hope not. not that i was going to buy any dlc in the first place, but another title is out of the question.

I definately am getting the feeling there will be a XIII-3...there are way too many things to answer even with a big DLC

after the requiem of the goddess DLC I'm pretty sure there is gonna be a FFXIII-3. Pretty much laid down the ground work of what it will be. i hope it comes to light ! hopefully not a book.

Are you guys seriously even considering buying the third game if it releases?
You guys prefer this over Versus, kingdom hearts 3 OR FFXV?
The second game had holes? It was completed within a year and a half because they had a lot of leftovers?
Not satisfied so you would like another game?
DLC was not enough?

Let me get this straight, what could have easily have been put in one single gaming experience you guys would like to see it smeared out and would even pay for it.

Lol.

Lol.

Yes they are Crazy, i remember when a FF game had the plot and optional bosses ON THE DAMM DISC. Please read this people:

This guy get it right.
The FFXIII universe is the worst universe that FF has reached if there is a FFXIII-3 then i will divorce from the FF franchise forever.

I loved FFXIII quite a bit, but the story for FFXIII-2 was a big, convoluted mess that went away from FFXIII's unique charm and atmosphere, IMO. I enjoyed it as a game, for sure, and the character interactions were entertaining enough, but it would have done better as FF15 with a new cast and such.

As for FFXIII-3, I really don't see them tying up the story in some measly DLC. I'm expecting another game, and it's truly what I would like to see.

Doesn't have to be right away, though. I'm all for letting the potential FFXIII-3 take a back seat to KH3 and Versus, lol. But if they can make it quick enough (my understanding is that FFXIII-2 had a very short development time, so I expect part 3 could be done quickly as well), then yay.

not a chance in hell

but for people who didn't actually buy the game when it came out, they may just actually be getting their money's worth. but that really, is completely dependent on whether or not the dlc is as shit story itself made the game.

I only just saw the ending of the latest DLC, I am torn on which ending I would of rather had, FFXIII-2 took a lot of things away from what made FFXIII likeable. But then it added it's own twists, yes the story was a bit of a mess but I loved it. I love Caius who in my opinion is up there with top villains and I love lightning but she felt so bogged down in just wanting to be with Serah. From the looks of this if there is a FFXIII-3 she will be the main character and well to be honest I will be excited for that because I want to see how this story truly ends.

I would love to see versus XIII and FFXV but to be honest I am a fan that will accept any form of the franchise and take it for it's positives and not be bogged down by the negatives.

After watching the DLC with Lightning.... this game is a mess. The whole FF XIII series is just one... big huge mess.

SE has wasted money on fans on silly things like costumes to a game that has enough plot holes to stink a boat. If the FF XIII series was a real life boat it would be the Titanic

Some of the older FF's are not completely perfect example FF VII suffers from terrible translation from Japanese to English and there's a group of fans that believe that FF8 CD2 onwards is a dream because it sounds unbelievable and farfetched; But FF XIII & it's sequel is just one huge mess that doesn't hold up.

FF 15 and VS are coming and ? That doesn't sound hopeful. Not in the slightest. Final Fantasy games have gone to " Must get the latest game now ! Completed it ! Must replay and get all the best swords and secret items !! To " What...... is this ... " ?!!
:srsly:

I'm not dumping the series, because FF 2- FF 10 are still good enough to reflect back on old memories and replays now and again. Though it's extremely sad that the future titles and FF XIII & FF XIII-2 are just a mess and knowing SE these days FF XV is going to be The FF XIII story all over again.

Old Fans : Wow FF XV looks promising !

New Fans : Wow look at FF XV'S graphics it looks really epic !

Old Fans : FF XV has a crappy battle system, terrible cheesy characters, the game is extremely linear and what's with this chapter thing still ?

New Fans : This game has some faults but I'll play it and enjoy it anyways.

SquareEnix : Now that this game has a 1/2 done ending and enough plot holes to create a flood. How about some DLC ? They're only a couple of bucks !

Old Fans : Get F *** cked !

New Fans : Yes ! I really want to see the main character in a cute White Mage suit and Kitten ears ! It would be so kawaii !~

SquareEnix : Here's the last DLC. BTW it doesn't clear everything up; but we have millions of bucks now from the game and DLC. Cheers guys !

Old Fans: / cries while holding a copy of FF VII ... take me back into the past my baby... take me back into the past...

New Fans : Oh So this means a FF XV - 2 ? Omg SE please ! A FF XV- 2 ! Please !

SquareEnix : Lol Okay. Here's FF XV-2 and a even more screwed up storyline and more DLC's !

Old Fans :...... Why am I buying this game ?

New Fans : This still doesn't add up, but it's okay. I enjoyed it anyways Thankyou SE !

SquareEnix : Bwaa Bwaa Bwaa Bwaa Bwaa- O- what ? Oh yes. No problem my puppets- I mean.. slaves.. I mean.. loyal fans.
:britt:

a 13-3 would be fantastic! i think you would play as lightning and vanille and fang tbh

Bear in mind that we waited almost 10 years to discover that humanity wasn't utterly destroyed at the end of FFVII...
So this could take a while.

Right when I first saw the ending of XIII-2, I wanted nothing more than XIII-3. But the more I've thought about it, the more I feel satisfied with where things went and I'm content to leave things there. It's not an easy ending to watch, but it makes all the more profound of a point that way. What would XIII-3 do besides turn this unsettling point into a happy ending, nullifying its impact on the gamer? Or worse, perhaps XIII-3 would bring back a few characters just to essentially kill them again, thus validating XIII-2, but making for one heck of an unnecessary addition to a story with plenty of closure already. We've had a good ending, we've had a 'bad' ending. That means a third game would be required to undo one ending or another. No escaping it.
