You like horror games?

I'm not a big fan of any of the so-called horror games that have come out.

I had hopes that we might see a Cthulhu mythos game come out for a console but it hasn't happened.I think there have been 1-2 out on pc but that's it.

Of course there aren't many Cthulhu mythos fans out there and it seems to me most people get their ideas about horror from Freddie, Jason, Michael Myers, Saw, zombies, vampires and werewolves and don't/can't see anything else.

I find that rather sad.

Yeah i agree with you on that! just once i'd like to see a more psychological horror thriller of a game rather than just slash-and-hack-through-zombies-and-demons type of stuff. I mean i do like games like RE, SH, and DS, but a horror game doesnt have to just involve shooting things or slashing things. sometimes it would be nice to see a game where you're just trying to survive, not kill anything in the process

^ I'm with you on that. I want to play something that scares me rather than gross me out. The zombie thing is so common these days and it's kinda getting stale. I prefer ghosts *cough, Fatal Frame, cough, cough*.
It just would be nice to see something fresh and new once in a while.

Aye absolutely agree with you! *cough Fatal Frame cough* is a game that really scares the s*it out of you :D

I'm not a huge fan of horror games though there are some that I tend to really like. I like the Resident Evil games, though after a while I find them less scary. Usually they are more scary in the beginning.

I've played Fatal Frame alone in the dark before and it freaked me out to much I stopped playing it. Then I had a couple of nightmares so I finished the game, but during the day when it was sunny. Now I usually love horror movies but there is something about a horror game that freaks me out. Maybe the fact that it's hands on.

The game I'm playing now is Singularity, I like it so far, story mode is interesting, but it keeps me playing

I love survival horror games, especially when some nasty beast is stalking me and I ran out of bullets. Usually a game who can make me feel uneasy after turning the console off and makes me have nightmares is what I consider, a great survival horror game (meh, I was a kid back then anyways).... Unfortunately, the horror game industry is going straight to shitville and we don't see many horror games nowadays.

My favorite horror/suspense games are:
-Silent Hill PSX
-Silent Hill 2
-Eternal Darkness (a very fucked up game)
-Alone in the Dark
-DOOM (before it went to shitville too)

I need to play Fatal Frame...never heard of it. :wtf:

As for Resident Evil:
RE 0 was good
REmake was epic
RE2 was meh....
RE3: Nemesis was frustrating...(Nemesis STOP following me you stalker!)
RE4: was a great game, but not what I call survival horror
RE5: Resident Evil made a turn from survival horror to action.

Yeah Eternal Darkness is pretty fucked up game :D

I'd rather not get into the horror game genre because then I'll never be able to sleep. But I do find horror games quite addicting.

I haven't played a horror game in years actually. It's not that I don't like the genre though, far from it. The first Silent Hill was fantastic, and Silent Hill 2 is in my top 5 favourite games ever, but Silent Hill 3 left me a bit disillusioned with the genre. The monsters were more laughable than scary, and the focus seemed to have shifted from the creepy atmosphere and suspense of SH 1 and 2, to a more action orientated gameplay.

yeah, i think sh homecoming is the worst ftom the series but enjoyable anyways. the new pyramid head saved the day while i was playing it. sh2 my personal favorite.

Alone In The Dark (the very original) was INCREDIBLE. Simply put. I suspected EVERYTHING. I was walking down this hallway and saw a tapestry at the end. Suspicious, I stood in the middle of the hallway and threw everything in my inventory at it (it was hard to aim because of the stupid camera angel). My brother was watching and scoffing, saying I was paranoid.

When I finally hit the tapestry with a statue and it squealed and vanished in a puff of smoke, I've never felt more vindicated. :ryan:

Doom is also awesome, but I like the older games.

On the whole, I guess I don't really like horror games that much. You're way too disadvantaged the whole time and monsters just keep getting thrown at you. At least in Alone in the Dark, it was mostly puzzles, and you were encouraged to run away from ghosts. But in stuff like Condemned and Dead Space -- forget it. Being pitifully underpowered is fine as long as you eventually get stronger, but being constantly pitifully underpowered and having hordes of monsters thrown at you, doesn't constitute as "horror" to me.

That's simply fsking annoying.

While Condemned and Dead Space certainly do a good job at creating that creepy atmosphere (I rushed forward to attack a hallucination while playing Condemned and the damn thing vanished JUST as the blow was about to hit, VERY CREEPY) there's always that point where it becomes a sadistic game of survival (namely, the last level). And then it just gets stupid. Dying over and over and over and over again doesn't not constitute as scary or spooky or even slightly amusing. It's just stress, which I get plenty of with school.

It's just a pain in the ass, and until horror games get back to what made them GOOD, and do it well -- I think I'll stick to my hack 'n slash games. At least in THOSE I have a fighting chance when faced with hordes of sinister monsters.

The only one's I recall playing are the usual Left 4 Dead 1 and 2. I played Left 4 Dead 1 for months, trying to get all the achievements. The second one I didn't play so much, because it felt like the first one, with just some minor adjustments.

I've only beaten the second Silent Hill, which took forever. I made it pretty far with one of them (I think it was called The Room), but gave up about half way through.

Another game I'm looking forward to is Dead Island, that game's preview looked pretty cool

Before going ahead, i'd like to say one thing... ''DOUBLE SLASH!!1'' ... I remember buying Silent Hill with 20euros when it was only about 6 months old from a gamestore near where i lived, i never have played LFD2 but LFD1 is pretty fun with Online playing. ;)

Can't wait for Dead Island, it's really going to be an open-world?!

Hm. I started with Resident Evil 2, the one with Leon and Claire. That kinda set the standards for me. The subsequent horror games that would come close to scaring me would have to be something like that - dark, haunting atmosphere, spooky ambient music, and surprise attacks.

On that last count, Resident Evil alone was a ridiculous nightmare, especially the first few. From 4 onwards, I feel it's starting to become very much like an early L4D.

Silent Hill was good too, and it also has a rather intricate storyline full of psychological references. As I play, I'm always wondering how the environments reflect on the character's state of mind, and all...

I've been getting more and more into the survival horror genre lately. In fact, every game I've purchased recently has been of the genre. The most recent of which being Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. I feel actually bad for having not played this game for as long as I went. It's amazing.

Another game I played recently that I want to discuss a little is Dead Space. I've heard a lot of comparisons saying that this game is nothing more than "Resident Evil in space". I personally disagree. Unlike most of the Resident Evil series, the gameplay in Dead Space is handled competently. But a more accurate comparison would be to say that this game is Cold Fear... In space. It has a very similar atmosphere and the story line progression is almost identical. Granted Cold Fear's plot isn't exactly original to begin with but still.

I also finally got around to playing Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. I've virtually fallen in love with this game. However, I've yet to finish it because of a very infamous glitch in the chapter "A Dangerous Voyage" (anyone who's played the PC version like me probably already knows what I'm talking about). Unfortunately, they never patched it. :sad3:

Needless to say, the genre has consumed my life as of recently. With the only games I've played in the last month being Silent Hill 2, 3, Origins, and Shattered Memories, Clock Tower 3, Echo Night, and the above mentioned games.

*sigh* Good thing I didn't really have a life to begin with.

I fucking love horror games. :ryan: I've been planning for some time now as soon as I get an excellent gaming computer or decent upgrades to my current laptop and the right software, I would be doing gameplays, LPs, and streaming of games mainly focused in the horror entertainment- whether if they're games that have to be bought or the silly yet freaky free games, I've played several and had my share of peeing all over the keyboard (lolnotrlly). Particular games I really want to play include Amnesia: The Dark Descent (and Justine), Ju-NO: The Grudge, Penumbra, Hell Night, the original F.E.A.R, and so much more. Hopefully as soon as I can come into some money, I can get started with what I'd really like to do .
