I love so many of the characters, but my top two are Vincent and Cloud. Vincent has one of the coolest and most interesting pasts ever, with a sad love story and a mad scientist.
I love Cloud because he is the star of my favorite FF game, and because the story of him and Zack and Sephiroth was a very good one, and I love his psychological problems, it keeps you hooked on his life and the story.
I also like Squall, but he doesn't make the top ;)

Haha, funny how my favorites are the somber, lonely people? But don't you DARE call them emos! They are not!

Anywho...

What character(s) were you're absolute favs?

Surprisingly I couldn't find a thread that was specifically asking for favourite characters in general. I could only find ones that ask for favourite character designs. In which case, I'll move it and sticky this then unless I do find a similar thread in this section. =]

[Moved to FF General Discussion]

My favorite characters would be Firion, Yuna, and Aeris.
Firion- he persevered through the hell of Mateus' obstacles, and he is passionate for a world where there is no war, just like everybody else. Besides that, he's HOT!
Yuna- she's so cheery in Final Fantasy X-2 with Riku, and hilarious! The summoning ability is awesome!
Aeris- WHY did SEPHIROTH have to kill her? She was sooo darn cool by summoning holy to prevent the meteor from hitting earth and I felt very sympathetic for her because she was the only real cetra!

My favourite character has to be Jecht, i know he wasn't playable, but i just loved his character design and the final scene between him and Tidus was something i loved.

SE working his story and Tidus together, (as in Tidus' feelings towards him) was just amazing, other games with a similar set up (father and son) didn't really work the Feelings into the backstory and what not,

but yea, his character design, his personality, and his weapon are among the reasons that i love him

I like Lightening a lot, as well as Rydia and Nanaki. Rufus and Reno are also favorites.

Squall because I can relate to him the most out of any Final Fantasy characters, I like his personality traits a lot and his gunblades aren't too shabby either ;)

Just because I can, my top 5 are:

1) Squall
2) Reno
3) Cloud
4) Sephiroth
5) Vincent

mine would be the dark knight / paladin
Cecil - Simply because he was the first character that i use in my final fantasy days ... and also i love the job changing aspect .

I have sense I will have a wildly opinion-splitting choice, but here it goes...

Vanille

So many people seemed to loathe her, but I actually found her to be incredibly interesting. Her almost superhuman cheeriness even in the face of death was inspiring, and kind of gave me a mini epiphany as to how fear/complaining/etc never really achieve anything except for darknening your own mind.

But then on the other side of the spectrum, I thoroughly enjoyed that she wasn't just a 2d archetype character, she had an entirely different side, a guilt-ridden, emotional one, which reared its head during times of major personal crisis for her. Note too that the only time she ever truly showed pain was out of guilt or feeling for others that have/may be harmed due to her own actions, and never because of feeling sorry for herself or for selfish reasons.

Not to mention the fact that in the end of the story she (along with Fang of course) willingly offers up her life, without doubt, in order to save those of her friends, and the world.

A deeply misunderstood and disregarded character.

Since the question asks whom ones favourite FF character is, with being plural, I'll just give one, absolute answer: Nanaki/Red XIII.

That character just seems cool in every way to me, well, besides the weird voice they gave him in Advent Children, didn't see that coming.

And of course they only gave him one line, seven words. "There are still children with the stigma." Those words. And they weren't even on par with the character's usual, intelligent statements, that was just stating the obvious, SE really didn't do him justice in the movie, but that isn't the character's fault, it is SE's.

Anyways, enough rambling from me. Wait...the more I type, the more I am contributing to the thread. :wacky:

I always like when an FF game has at least one playable character that isn't human, although FFXIII seems to have been missing that...

But of all the non-human characters playable through the various FF games, Nanaki from Final Fantasy VII is undoubtedly numero uno (number one) in my books.

He was a strong character in battle, looks cool, is cool, very intelligent, and there is always a flame burning at the end of his tail, can't say that wouldn't be useful, just look at Charizard in Super Smash Bros. Brawl (random comparison). :x3:

Cloud And Squall because I can relate to them. They have good looks, strong, and have some similarities. And also I like their weapons. But the one thing I like most is their attitude. They are very serious and doesn't care people. Thats all

My first thought is Rikku. She has a massive personality, but is also really warm, funny, and caring. In battle, she's also really useful.

If I think about it a little more though, I'd have to say Cloud or Squall, because those two I have the biggest emotional involvement with. I played FFVII and FFVIII at about the same time period, and discovering RPGs for the first time, it was really exciting for me. As characters, they are both flawed really, but as I say, I just connect with those two the most.

Tidus. He was a charismatic, playful, and all-around endearing protagonist. He shows a great amount of maturation throughout the game which culminates when
he destroys Sin/Yu Yevon, knowing that he would die in result.

I must post. :33

Terra Branford.
Why you ask? Well then, I ask why not! There are millions of reasons why, really and it would take forever to list them. Though if my head wasn't foggy and in dire need of sleep, I would try and list those millions of millions of reasons. But for now, I'll try and keep it short :)

Her personality was different, nothing completely different and unique as that is so friggin' rare that its nearly impossible to achieve, but still very different. She was shy, but she wasn't "shy" shy. She was alone, but she wasn't an emo-cry baby. She had problems, yes, that she had friends who helped her through instead of whining about it, slapping them away with "I don't need yous" and whatnot. She had big problems, obviously, but she handled them completely different than any other FF character I ever saw.

Terra, in FF6 as Dissidia Terra is different, caring, warm, sweet, strong (Not just in magic! >.>), compassionate, wise and motherly (Awe! :33) to children she didn't even know or wasn't even obligated to take care of. She risked her life to help her friends out of Kefka's falling tower no matter the cost to herself.

The best part about her "drama" was that she didn't overplay nor did SE. They played it just right and gave us enough to feel for Terra and her enough to feel a little real, instead of moping around bein' emoz and stuff, she healed with her friends instead of hanging on it.

That's as short as I could get it without revealing nearly the entire plot of FF6 xD

GO TERRA!

Yuna. and I'm talking about FF10 Yuna, not FF10-2. She is kind, pretty, and has such a fresh personality. Sweet yet outgoing.

Squall. He is the only character that I actually felt emotionally connected too. I really enjoyed playing that game all cuz of him.

and lastly, Cloud. Mostly because I love the whole story of FF7, and that means I'm gonna love the protagonist.

I also love Vincent and Auron, but they don't make my top 3:P

but my absolute top of the list above the top 3 best ff character is... Lucrecia. :) Persevering when everyone thought she was wrong, and doing anything to save the one she truly loved.

It's still Shadow (FFVI) for me. He may not have been a very influential force in the game or even hardly there but when he was I'd spend ages with the party that has him before he goes wandering off. It's a bit of a shame we had to buy him for money at some stage, but that's just typical of him "He'd slit his mama's throat for a nickel" - that's just badass.

Followed closely in 2nd place by:
Lightning - Now she is really pushing. The game might of been a let down for most of us (but not me :)), but she is seriously nearly creeping up to being my fave character. It's probably I'm getting tired of Shadow after all these years, but if FFVI doesnt have a prequel, sequel or remake, she definately will be my fave character in the series at some point. What I like about her is her cool and calm attitude to things, and she's definately not emotionless and NOT up there with Cloud or Squall.

other's I MUST mention (in no paticular order):Sazh,Terra,Yuna (FFX one) and (maybe) Noctis.

Ummm this is tough, i'd have to say:

1). Squall
2). Laguna
3). Rydia
4). Edward
5). Gilgamesh
6). Kefka
7). Kuja
8). Jecht
9). Gabranth
10). Paine

There not in a specific order but they are my faveourite characters, i just couldn't choose one individual character soooo.

Zack has been one of my favorites for a long time. I loved that they had him in Ehrgeiz! He’s very charismatic. I was also completely stupefied when I first found out there was a
hidden scene in the ShinRa mansion basement which involved the escape
. Red XIII is another favorite from FFVII, and believe it or not, Cait Sith/Reeve too. They really need to produce more non-human characters! And as a matter of fact, I love all of FFVII’s characters. o_O

Zidane is also a favorite. He had a funny, comedic personality that really livened up the game. One of my favorite parts of the game is when he
cops a feel of Dagger’s butt
. Lol.

I love Terra because her story was unique and interesting. I also love green hair. :wacky:

I haven't played much amount of FF games to decide who might be my favorite character... but I'm gonna try.

Cloud Strife, well, he means a lot for me, cuz I have played FFVII when I was a child, and I believe that back then he became the first videogame character I actually loved (okay, there was also Link of Zelda, but that's a different story). I practically grew up with this character, and despite all the things that haters say about him, Cloud has a lot of meaning to me. He's part of me, in sort of way.

Kuja, I felt that he was strange from the first time. It was easy to sympathize with him, despite all the horrible crimes he committed, cause all he wanted was to deny the purpose for what he was originally created for.
I liked the fact that, in the end, after burning down his home planet and almost destroying Gaia, he left something important behind for the genomes who hadn't a purpose in life. And the fact that in the end he recognized all his mistakes, that made me love him.
I don't believe that he can be fully called a 'villain' in the end, I think he's more fit to the anti-villain category, if you ask me.

Other characters I love:
Celes Chere
Terra Branford
Kefka Palazzo
Edgar Roni Figaro
Sabin Rene Figaro

Tifa Lockhart
Yuffie Kisaragi
Zack Fair
Reno & Rude

Zidane Tribal
Vivi Ornitier
Beatrix

Lightning
Oerba Dia Vanille
Oerba Yun Fang
