If you could only pick one hero from each game to be your favorite, who would you pick and why?

And before I get the "I hated this game" stuff, yes if you really could not find one hero in a FF game to like, you can skip it, also if you wanna talk about the spin-offs, Crystal Chronicles, Tactics, etc., you may :elmo:. sequels/prequels are also allowed if you really want to!

My first.

FFI- Since you don't really have a "main character" type of deal, I decided to pick one class and went with Monk and Master class?
Mainly cause they usually had the most health for me, and also did more damage than the warrior in some cases, and saved me more times than anyone else!

FFII- Ricard Highwind- Why Ricard? You don't use him long and the other four are more useful... Well the truth is he is my favorite class (dragoon) and also he has the connection to one of my favorite characters in one of my most treasured games (FFIV). He was also very powerful and useful for the short time you had him, only other minor character that probably was more useful IMO as far as the temp characters go, was Minwu, but that is cause your characters are so weak and he...well wasn't :wacky:

FFIII- I only see the Onion Knight as one character... I am going skip this :wacky:, I would try to choose the names from the DS version, but the feel of the game on the DS was...so bad for me... :wacky:

FFIV- Cecil Harvey- choosing between Kain and Cecil was hard. In the end I went with Cecil. Mainly because I feel like that Kain being mind controlled so much pissed me off :mokken:, also Cecil had the whole story of going from a dedicated Black Knight in service to his adoptive father (the king of Baron), then goes to become a Paladin fighting against his former kingdom, and learning about who he really is.

FFV- Galuf Halm Baldesion- He was my favorite from start to finish, with his funny lines throughout the game, to his tragic death. He was one of the first real "comic reliefs" in any FF games that I played before, and at the same time, had this tragic ending, and memory lost till almost when he dies :(.

FFVI- Celes Chere- a game that had lot's of characters and you could learn so much about them, how could you pick one? Well I went with Celes in the end, probably one of the best female protagonists in any FF game, first to go against the emperors wishes in the army, she is accused of being a spy by your side, barely survives the end of the world, thinks it is all over, and yet finds a way to live on. and her and Locke had such great chemistry...

FFVII- Red XIII- If you would of asked me years ago who was my favorite in this game I would of picked Cloud, I mean he isn't a bad main character, and he has a very interesting story to tell. Over the years though I just ended up liking Red XIII more and more, he grows up thinking his dad betrayed Cosmo Canyon, is the last survivor of his clan, is used for Hojo's experiments, and survives so many years after almost everyone else is dead and somehow has kids.... Love it!

FFVIII- Irvine Kinneas- He is what I always wanted to be with the ladies when I was younger... smooth, and still thought I was all that, even if I failed 1000 times at it :wacky:. He is the only one that really knew who Edea was, and remembered everything from the past, (thanks to the GF's.) Yet he played it all calm until he revealed the truth. Seriously though, if I was half as cool as he was, I would of been like him with the ladies to :sup:

FFIX- Vivi - Vivi has to have one of the most tragic stories in any FF game, When he wakes up, he is with his grandpa who originally was going eat him, finds out that he is just a creation of the mist, then finds out that they will all die within a year or so of waking up, still has the courage to continue fighting, even if it means no more Black Mages, and even if he eventually 'stops moving'. The only one that never once gave up in FFIX, if you ask me, he is the bravest character in any FF game!

FFX- Yuna- probably the second bravest FF character in any FF game. She goes on a journey to basically sacrifice herself so that Spira can know peace even if it is for short time. Is branded a traitor by the religion/government, Yevon, continues on her voyage anyways. Finds out the truth behind it all, and instead of losing faith and hope, decides to fight and find a new way to bring true and an eternal calm to Spira!

FFXII- Balthier- "I'm the leading man. You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies.” How I wish he was the main character, he was amazing! His story and relationship with Cid, also added so much depth to XII that I feel that he almost saved the game from a bland story.

FFXIII- Vanille- Although she was kinda annoying at first (and by kinda I mean really annoying), she slowly become one of my favorite people in this game, she was almost the most caring about everyone and it wasn't all about herself at all. In the end I feel that she was the best in XIII.

Now onto spinoffs....

Tactics- Ramza- Any question here? He fights for justice, has his family betray him time and time again, his sister gets kidnapped, and he still is one of the most honorable people in probably any RPG. One of my favorite characters of all time, he has a deep dark story and gets thrown into multiple fights against everything from who is the true ruler of Ivalice, to the churches dirty secrets up to his closest friend using him to become king himself (and Ramza I feel kinda knows this but still goes along with it,) at the same time he fights demons and people alike and finds the truth about the Zodiac Brave story. In the end he is the true hero that no one will ever honor (except for a very selected few)

So who was your favorite hero from each game you played?

FFIV- Kain Highwind- I'm really unsure if Kain counts as a hero, more of a jerkass-woobie or anti- hero or just really confused, but I just like him too damn much to say no here.

FFV- Bartz Klauser- I like and enjoy how outgoing, lively and goofy he is, despite him clearly hurting inside over the lost of his parents.

FFVI- Celes Chere- A brave woman warrior that fights for love and what's right rather than for greed and power. What's not to love ?

FFVII- Cloud Strife- This guy has just gone through so much bullshit. I'm surprised that he can still stand by the end of the game.

FFVIII- Irvine Kinneas- A bit of a sleazy cowboy teenager, but at heart he's just really shy and struggles to fit in within society, so he acts like he's the man that gets all the women. At heart, he really cares about the people around him. The Parade thing wins it for me.

FFIX- Vivi - Basically one of the most mentally-strong and bravest characters that has ever existed within a Final Fantasy game.

FF7- It's a tight tie between Cloud and Vincent, but I'll go with Vincent. He's mysterious, interesting, and overall very badass.

FF8- Squall! I love Squall. Probably mostly due to the nostalgia factor (my first game) but I find his pessimistic and snide remarks very funny. Plus he goes through complete character development! Help, I'm drowning in this character depth!

FF10- This is so tough...tie between Lulu, Tidus, and Yuna. I love 'em all. Can't choose.

FF12- Fran and Balthier- once again can't decide. I love Fran's character design and her wise attitude. Balthier is just too suave and funny ^_^

FF13- I don't really care...I guess Sazh. He's funny and has that cute chocobo :lew:

Final Fantasy IV - Cecil because of his loyalty to Rosa and his bravery.

Final Fantasy VII - Vincent because he's intriguing and, based on what I know about Dirge of Cerberus, has a heart.

Final Fantasy VIII - It's difficult to choose between Rinoa and Laguna, but I think Laguna just about wins because of his awkwardness.

Final Fantasy IX - It's a toss up between Zidane, Steiner and Garnet... All of them are strong characters, for different reasons. I'll go with Steiner. He's serious to the point of being comical, he means well and he's loyal.

Final Fantasy X - Yuna, without a doubt. She's a bit naive and makes rash decisions several times within the game, but she does what she thinks is right. Some people hate her, but she's only 17. She was made to grow up too fast emotionally, but didn't have the experiences in order to be wise. Still, every decision she makes, she makes for the people around her.

Final Fantasy XII - This is tough... because I don't really care about any of the characters in XII... I remember liking Larsa's character. :hmmm:

Final Fantasy XIII - Quite possibly Snow. :lew: Yes, he toots his own horn far too often, but again, he's not that old - many young men behave in a similar way - and he's incredibly loyal to Serah. Unlike Lightning, he feels openly. Like Yuna, he lacks wisdom, which is why he's sometimes a bit rash and lad-ish, but he also does what he thinks is best - for someone else.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Serah - she develops a lot in the game and grows into a strong and independent heroine. She is presented as weak when XIII begins, but becomes the strongest character (emotionally) in the XIII series.

FFIV - Kain Highwind. He did a lot of flip-flopping but I don't know, I really liked his character. And I like dragoons.

FFV - I guess Gilgamesh doesn't count here so I'll go with Faris. I didn't care for the way her dialogue was written but I liked her character overall.

FFVII - Cid Highwind. Another dragoon. I loved Cid's character. He kind of had the crotchety old man thing going on but he also had a soft and kinder side. Vincent is a close second. I enjoyed his tragic storyline.

FFVIII - Laguna Loire. He was pretty goofy but I enjoyed the flashbacks with him. I actually preferred him over Squall (by a long shot).

FFIX - This one is kind of tough. I really liked most of the characters. Vivi was such an endearing character. Soft-hearted yet strong and an overall sad story. Zidane was a breath of fresh air after Squall. A hero that wasn't self-absorbed and whiny. He also had a bit of a sad story. I'll just say it's a tie.

FFX - Yuna, hands down. I didn't particularly care for most of the other characters, except maybe Auron. I thought Yuna was a strong heroine and though she was a bit naive at times, her heart was always in the right place.

FFXII - Does Larsa count? Most of the characters were pretty cardboard.
