I looked around the boards and didnt see anything that pertained to this, If I missed it I apologize but just incase.

What was the first RPG/JRPG game that you ever played?

I always thought the first RPG that I ever played was Final Fantasy IV but then I thought about it the other day and something occurred to me. I remember my dad (which I never lived with) one time purchased a Mario game thinking he was getting a Super Mario World Esque game, he wound up hating that game and gave it to me when I cam over one day. What was that game? You guessed it Super Mario RPG. I dont remember much about playing the game as a kid but I can tell you I didnt make it very far, I just remember playing the first part of the game over and over because I had no clue you could save the game. I mean I was a young child so I dont think my reading was that great at the time. Still watching Bowser fall off the chain over, and over ad over well you get the point it was satisfying. Then the giant sword piercing the castle? Pure nostalgia now.

Now lets get your take! What was your first RPG experience!?

Hmm, if I do recall correctly, it would have to be KOTOR 2. Though it did take a few years before I actually bothered to finish it. A great game, though the only replay value it has for me is b/c of Kreia. God, such an awesome character.

My first RPG :hmm:
It was Shining Force back on the Sega, that was my first system also... I wore that game out after so long...
After that I got Final Fantasy IV (II here in the US) and fell in love with Final Fantasy series... and JRPGs in general.

My first proper RPG was Suikoden II on PSOne.
It's really the game that got me into RPGs in the first place as it's a pretty amazing game :| I actually went on ebay the other day to search for it, sometimes I get hopeful that I might find a copy for a reasonable price... but no... the prices ranged from $300 right up to $1000 hahaha fucking ridiculous....why didn't I buy the game when it first came out ;_;

It was the demo of Final Fantasy VIII that came with Brave Fencer Musashi. Well, either that or Pokemon. Though, really, it wasn't until I was in middle school until I actually realized that I'd played the demo of the game before when I got to play it again.

Little piece of information about that Demo. The first time I played FF8 I bought it from a pawn shop and It had Disc 1, 2, 3, and the Demo disc. I always wondered why it had the demo disc with it that was until I reached disc 4 and didnt have it. Needless to say I was very upset (I didnt have access to the internet at that time to find out it actually had four discs and I was young)

Mine waaaas... :hmmm:
Either Pokemon Red or FF7. I was pretty late to the RPG scene in a sense, 'cause before that I loved my Sonic/Mario/Banjo/Disney Megadrive games too much to move on from them (isn't it funny how disney games were actually pretty good back then?).

Anyways, I loved Pokemon Red, even though I never used to catch them apart from my favourites from the tv show. The fact that it was black and white is pretty amazing too, so I'd love to go back and play the original Red again for the nostalgia :lew: .

As for FF7, I remember renting it and loving it so much. Got stuck at the Temple of the Ancients (naturally) and at the Carry Armour (naturally again), and I remember using the save crystal at the very start of the north crater, so I had to go aaaaall the way through the dungeon every time I lost on the last boss. I eventually gave up then and there and didn't buy it for a few years or something.

And that's my rather lovely RPG origins story :sir:

LOL owned

dick move

you really got fucked on that one =(

Final Fantas- umm, wait, no. Hold on. *rummages through old games*

Sorry, it was actually Pokémon Sapphire for the GBA back in the summer of good ol' 2003.

It's pretty much the one Pokémon game I made the most progress with. Don't ask me where I got to though, because I can't bloody remember. I think it was because my primary school was going through this Pokémon craze phase, and I found myself getting swept by it. I recall pestering my parents to buy me a GameBoy Advance (I couldn't find a pink GameBoy) and one of the two newest Pokémon games.

My experience with games back then was mainly SNES stuff with Zelda, Mario, and a variety of PS1 platformers and action-adventures. I wasn't very aware of the variety of other genres out there, so video games to me were pretty much action-adventures and platformers. I was expecting Pokémon Sapphire to be one of the two, but when it turned out to be this odd menu-based game with numbers and things, I had to momentarily adjust to this strange new form of gaming. Well, and adjust to the novelty that I was playing on a handheld console for the first time.

Since then, I lost interest in Sapphire as time went on. I tried to revisit Pokémon again with Diamond for the DS, but it didn't last long at all. I don't know why, but I seem to lack the ability to like and enjoy Pokémon games as much as everyone else on the planet by the looks of things.

And, when I did get my PS2 and Final Fantasy X-2 became my first Final Fantasy game, I had no clue what I was doing to begin with. At least Pokémon has what my kid self called the "health bar!". Final Fantasy X-2 only had numbers?! What the hell was going on? Owait, look! More of those weird menu things that I have to click on! Erm, okay, which one to press? Wait, am I dying? How do I know if I'm dying? Wait, which character am I playing as?

Hmm....

I'm gonna say Kingdom Hearts 1 back in the summer of 2011. I think that's the first one. I'm not completely sure. If you want a more legit RPG,FFIX was my first. It's still the only legit RPG that I've played completely through. XD I'm a terrible FF fan.

Anyway, yeah. Kingdom Hearts 1.

My first RPG game was the great and fantastic Pokémon Red, back when I got it for Christmas in 1999 I think. I played through to the Elite Four with my terrible tactic of only training my Starter Pokémon, then catching random levelled pokémon about the place. Needless to say, it went shit.

My first completed RPG was Crystal. I got all the pokémon of the time, beat Red and all the prior challenges. :hmmm: Still my favourite RPG to this day.

You did not play Red or Blue or even G/S/C? That is terribly odd. Sapphire was your first? Okay then I guess I commend you on playing my favourite pokemon game as your first but that is terribly late on the franchise. I can honestly remember doing everything in pokemon Sapphire including filling the whole pokedex by myself. It still remains my favourite pokemon game and Kyogre will probably never be replaced as my favourite pokemon haha. It is just so cool. Though two days later my perfect file got deleted and I was nearly in tears/fuming when I saw new game. Of course it was my little brother..... God, if they make a remake I will definitely do everything again though. I have so much memories of Sapphire and running near Lilycove city.

Pokemon craze? Meh that is not enough. I was absorbed into pokemon when I was like 5 or 6. If you played during childhood you would have liked pokemon a lot more. Hopefully you can make a change and buy X or Y if they interest you. Competitive pokemon battling is really fun.

My first RPG game? It was pokemon Blue and boy did I love it so much. I remember my level 100 blastoise eradicating virtually everything it came across. I learned the types rather quick and once steel and dark were introduced in gen 2, it was still not a problem. I got Blue when one of my very old friends gave me the very first pokemon episode on VHS. After the episode finished there was an advertisement(very very old)

Here it is

Yep that is how I heard of the games and I really loved them all ever since. Pokemon as my first RPG game was the right choice :ryan:

Whenever two new pokemon games release I always get one and so does my brother. When a standalone one releases I usually get it. I am sure it is the same with most people in all honesty. I will probably get X and my brother will probably get Y.

As for Final Fantasy? It was actually pretty late in my rpg saga and I never got into it until at least the late 2000's.

HeroQuest on the PC at a friend's place some time in the mid 90's. The game that really got the ball rolling for me though, was Final Fantasy VIII.

I don't think Pokemanji counts as an RPGaru.
I was very lucky because the first RPGaru I played just so happens to be the best RPGaru of all time.
FFVIII. I was very shit at first. It was ages before I could be Elvoret then when I finally managed to beat him; a giant fucking robot spider came and fucked me up. Then I sulked for months before I played again. That time I managed to escape the Spider and I enjoyed watching it get shot up by Quistis. I didn't really bother with any junctioning so I was still pretty shit, but I managed to make it to disc 4 but then Adel pounded me. So I quited again. However that time I just restarted and paid attention to junctioning and stuff like that.
So FFVIII was my first RPG. I can still remember when I first played, it was just after I downloaded it off PSN last week.

i think my first rpg was in the first gta game.

i used to drive around and shoot everyone just for fun. i did the cheats to get the guns and the ammo ofc.

it was fun ^_^

paper mario for N64  i did not know what a rpg really was back then when i played it in 2009 but it was still fun ^^ i think it is a rpg anyway :x

My first videogame experience was with Super Mario Bros 1,2, & 3 on the SNES(If you can call that an RPG). I mostly played my cousin's videogames since I never could have any at my house at the time and I played the Animaniacs RPGish platform game on the Sega. And then there was an Indiana Jones game on the handheld Sega device my cousin had. I think that was my first legit RPG. :hmmm:

The first RPG I ever owned was Dragon Quest 7 for the PS1. My mom and I would take turns playing it but she broke the game disk and I never got past the first parts of the game. So from then on my mom got me FF8 and FF Tactics for Christmas. FF8 was the first RPG game I finished. :hmmm:

Final Fantasy Tactics was my first rpg ever and got me to like rpgs in general, I almost didnt wanna play any genre except a rpg. My brother owned the game and saw him playing it, so I picked it up and thats where all my FF love started as well the love for gaming. Pokeon was the second game I played but all I could think of was Final Fantasy Tactics cause at the time I thought it had better music and I liked the guy with the pigtails who's actually a boy and figting with swords and using magic all just seems more fun than catching animals in balls and having to use 4 attacks xD

Dragon Warrior. The first one. I remember when that game first came out. Yeah, it's primitive now, but back in those days, it really blew me away. Times were simpler back then. I kinda feel like Cranky Kong talking about this.

Pokemon Crystal! :yay: I absolutely adored the battle system and the use of elements in the game. It's strange to think that, when I progressed to Final Fantasy 3 years later, I absolutely hated turn-based systems. :hmmm: I had at that point become rather addicted to Zelda though. :lew:

Pokemon remains one of my favourite series, although I am not too happy with the way it is developing. :ness: I don't want to see anymore Pokemon!!! Pokemon Crystal - and the remake, Soul Silver/Heart Gold - remain my favourites in the series, followed by Red/Blue/Yellow/Fire Red/Leaf Green, which are equally good but don't quite hold that special place in my heart. Pokemon Crystal provided me with a fresh adventure and I invested a lot of time in my starter, Totodile. I absolutely hated his evolutions, thus he remained Totodile until level 59! :lew: At that point, I HAD to evolve him because he was too weak to tackle the Elite Four. ;) I adore Feraligatr now. :)
