Advent Children Your opinions of the GEOSTIGMA

Disease, it didn't spread like a virus, it's been a while since I seen this movie, but I don't remember it being contagious in any way. Marlene wasn't infected anyway. I guess it's bcause she was in Kalm at the time of the Lifestream moment.

I wonder if Geostigma will hit the Earth soon. All we have to do is wait for the rain, or travel away from Earth into a distant planet that turns out to be Gaia or something.

Uh...last time I checked Geostigma was confined to the realm of "videogames", so I don't think it'll end up in the real world any time soon. The Geostigma problem was kind of resolved anyway, and Earth doesn't have a lifestream....so there's not much of a threat.

Good. But maybe the Japanese might make the games into real life. I'll kill myself after that. I don't wanna cath Geostigma.

lolwut? That's the funniest thing I've ever heard :wacky: The only way that could happen was if Imaginationland was breached and terrorists stole Geostigma. Even then it wouldn't work since it came from the lifestream and we don't have a lifestream, and I don't think the terrorists or Japanese could create a lifestream in the earth then have it spew out Jenova cells.

Hmm I don't think the Japanese are going to bring the realm of videogames into real life, certainly we won't find a planet like Gaia or catch Geostigma. But I wouldn't rule out the idea of terrorists trying to do something similar on a more real level. And hey, how do you know a "lifestream" of sorts doesn't exist?:wacky:

The Geostigma wasn't contagious, and it wasn't even technically a disease; vincent explained it in the forest. The geostigma was a side effect of the body's immune system fighting off the Jenova Cells and overcompensating.

Whoa! Can you say misunderstanding? LA, I see your confusion, but I'll try and sort it out.

Cloud did NOT contract Geostigma from Denzel. There is a reason why primarily children have the disease. (I'll explain why in a sec)

In the very last battle of the game (well... second to last) you defeat Jenova's body. At this time, the group was in the Lifestream. So, Jenova's entire body was diffused throughout the Lifestream after it had been defeated.

Well, this comes back to bite everyone in the butt later on. Now, Geostigma is caused by Jenova cells in the body, via Lifestream that everyone is imbued with. This irritant is detected by the body as an invader and the immune system kicks in. However, this 'invader' is not physical, and the body only ends up attacking itself.

Why children? Because they were imbued with Lifestream earlier than adults. Namely, they were imbued with Lifestream that was rife with Jenova cells! So, the Jenova cells went to work and cause Geostigma as we know it.

But why Cloud? Well, as previously mentioned, he was experimented on by Shinra, which included the injection of Jenova cells.

Had any of the other Sephiroth 'clones' survived (Sephiroth killed them all off) you would've seen Geostigma present in them as well. So, Cloud and clones would all be in the same boat. They've already got the Jenova cells in them, so they'd be the only adults very susceptible to the disease.

My guess is that former members of SOLDIER would also be seen with Geostigma, and other, normal adults (Like Tifa, Barret, etc.) would prove to be very resistant to contracting Geostigma physically from anyone already infected. Since the Jenova cells are only present in the 'spirit energy' within everyone (except in Cloud's case, and his case of Geostigma was very bad as you can see in the movie) and thus, no physical contact is made with the disease-causing object itself.

I hope this clears it up. Ask if you have any questions!!

yay! thnx for explaining dragon mage. i have one question tho... how were the children imbued with lifestream before the adults?

Ummm no...because of the simple fact that it explains the Geostigma and how it's contracted IN the story Case of Denzel which is from the Lifestream touching that person. The stigma IS contagious hence why Denzel got it and why people were so reluctant to touch said infected person. Denzel touched the black, sticky liquid that was coming out of Reeve's mother (can't remember her name in the story) and the he ended up with it. He never came in contact with the Lifestream in the story. Read Case of Denzel. It explains how Geostigma happened in the first place.

You're welcome!

As for your question, well, the kids are much younger than the adults, yeah? Whenever someone is 'born' they are imbued with Lifestream, which grants them, respectively, life.

Any newborns after the defeat of Sephiroth and Jenova would have Jenova cells inside them from the beginning, and would have a very short life, sadly.

Older children are still children, and have a stronger bond with the Lifestream, their souls having not too long just come out of it. So, because of their stronger connection with the lifestream, they'd have alos recieved Jenova cells more readily than any adult, who has long since left the Lifestream and is relatively safe from contamination. However, adults can still catch Geostigma, since it does run in the Lifestream, which affects all things. Children merely have a predisposal towards infection.

I hope this makes sense.

And LA, I see what you mean, but that can be misinterpreted. For reasons explained above, Denzel was probably already infected with Geostigma already, before he had contact with the infected women. And direct contact with the Lifestream is not required for infection. Lifestream touches all, whether you know it or not. So, it is a rather inevitable thing. Everyone would eventually have it.

lol hon, I'm sorry but you're wrong in that aspect. You need to read the story to better understand it. Being children has nothing to do with it. A lot of children lost their parents to Geostigma. It came from the Jenova Cells that were infused within the Lifestream. The moment the Lifestream burst out of the earth and touched people, that's when the stigma began. The stigma is highly contagious and can be contracted if one person touches another. While you're theory is good, it's wrong. I know what I'm talking about. I own the Collector's Edition of Advent Children with the stories that came along with it. This is a direct quote from Case of Denzel

The child suddenly screamed "Mummy!" then looked down. He lost his balance and waved his arms to keep himself from falling. At once Denzel ran over to him and grabbed one flailing arm. Then everyone behind him started talking.

"Watch it, that kid's infected!" one of them said.

"Don't touch him! You'll catch it too!"

"Wh-what do you mean?" Denzel said. The kid looked scared, but other than that, nothing seemed wrong.

"Come on, get outta the way!" someone yelled.

Denzel wanted to say something back, but he couldn't tell whose voice it was and decided against it. He wrapped his arms around the boy's waist and dragged him to the top of one of the iron panels used to fix the rails to the support pillar. Why didn't anyone help him? he wondered, and looked down to see that the boy's back was soaked through with some dark fluid. He jerked his hand away. It's that same stuff... that came out of Levy.

The path had cleared and the people started walking again. The boy kept crying and whimpered, "It hurts. Mommy..."

Denzel remembered what one of the adults had said: "You'll catch it too." He wanted to cry. He was angry at the boy. But suddenly he remembered Levy. How he had felt sick at the sight of the black liquid coming from her, the one who had been so kind to him. How he had fled in fear. A sense of guilt filled him. Maybe if were nice to this kid he could make amends. He wanted Levy to forgive him. So he crouched down beside the boy.

"Where does it hurt?" he asked

"On my back."

"Up here?"

"Yeah."

He gently placed his hand on the boy's back. Whenever his stomach hurt, his mother would rub it and the pain would disappear. The same when he bumped into something. Maybe I can use some of mum's magic, too. Denzel started to rub, trying to ignore the sticky black liquid coating his hands. At first the boy grimaced with pain, but eventually he fell asleep.

Three hours. Perhaps a little longer. Denzel continued to tend to the boy, occasionally taking a break. The people ignored Denzel and the boy and went on down the track.

"He's already dead."

Denzel looked up to see a woman with a tired face standing there.

She had a baby strapped to her chest with cord, and was holding hands with a girl around Denzel's age.

"That's a girly shirt. He's weird. Mummy, can we go now?" the girl said.

The woman she called mummy took off of her daughter's blue jacket, gave it to Denzel, and said, "Put this over him."

Her daughter, having had been made to wear three layers of clothing, looked relived.

"Take it. It's my older sister, so it'll be big enough" the girl said.

Denzel looked at the boy curled up sleeping beside him. He couldn't hear him breathing anymore and the strength left his body. The girl took the jacket from her mother and quickly covered the boy.

"He's with her now," the girl said.

"Thank you," was all he could manage to say. The mother had already started walking away, and the girl followed, sliding her hand into her mother's. Like his own, their hands were stained pitch-black.

As Denzel stared at the chocobo bag the girl was wearing, he though to himself, Are we going to die, crying in pain with this black sticky stuff bleeding out of our bodies? Are we going to get sick and die?

"Back then, we didn't know anything about Geostigma. Those who were exposed to the Lifestream have black pus leak from their bodies and die. There were some who said it was spread by physical contact. In actuality, it was the will of Jenova mixed with the Lifestream that...no, forget it. Even if we did know that, it wouldn't have changed the situation."

"Especially for the children."

"Yeah."

"I thought about it while I was on the track. I wished I was an adult soon. I was hoping that then there might be just a few less things that I didn't understand."

thanx lady aerith! i never read the case of denzel, just maiden who travels the planet and case of tifa. im gonna go back and read the rest now tho. ^_^ thanx dragon mage as well. ur theory waz really good

Awww, it's no problem sweetie! I'm glad you better understand it now. Yes, I highly encourage you to read Case of Denzel. It's very insightful. DragonMage's theory was decent, but what she came up with isn't the case at all.

Geostigma

Here is my view on the Geostigma virus/disease in FF7AC:
My view on the geostigma and the reason there was no mention of it in the game.
My thoughts on why there was no mention of it in the game is that the virus hadnt formed properly and lying dormant in peoples cells that had been in close contact or lived near to any one of the mako reactors that AVALANCHE destroyed on their crusade to keep the planet alive, because of the reactors exploding it would have the same effect as a nuke for instance the mushroom cloud wouldnt just be smoke it would also be mako in this case being spewed out in the form of gas which the inhabitants of midgar would then unluckily have to breath in.
Also have you noticed that it is mainly the kids that are effected by the geostigma except from Cloud and the infamous trio, my view on the reason it has affected kids the most is that the adults effected by the mako were only the carriers of the jenova infected genes, but than we they gave birth to their children the children were the first generation of a plague of geostigma.
Also my view on geostigma is that in real life it would have to be compared to AID'S, because of the disease/virus breaks down the infected humans body till it can go on no more and shuts down as a last attempt to stop the demonic virus/disease.
I welcome any ones praise or critcism.

can somebody give me a link to the case of denzel? i couldnt find it on here and id like to read it...

ok heres a random idea i just had reading this but what if meteor brought harmful microbes with it to the planet from space? or withdrawals from the mako energy that had everyone had grown used to from being near it? ok so maybe the second one isnt as likely

my thoughts are its kinda cool even though its dangerous which they say all the time in the PS1 game it can cause the person who was injected with it to turn into the harvenger of death/angel of death/one winged angel sethoroth
it was taken from the calamity jenova and injected into the SOLDER group who worked for shinra
i know this much cuase i clocked the game three times
all chocobos all materia and all weapons i really need to get a life before i play it again dont i
but yeah geo stigma is kinda cool
