I have two questions, one I don't think anyone has much concrete evidence but it deals with the ending
does anyone know how he was actually able to escape, I've googled it and hadnt had much luck?

I dont expect much answer for that one, maybe a few theories, but my big question would have to deal with sort of the end

Okay, we know Zidane was programed and made. Did Garland ever give a life expectancy for Zidane, I know he said Kuja's time was near but there was no mention of Zidane's life expectancy.

I think Garland made Zidane immortal... or at least that's the impression that I got from him saying that Kuja was just a sort of mortal prototype and that he created Zidane to be Kuja's successor. I'm not completely sure, though.

I don't think either question is really answered:

I guess we just assume that Zidane managed to slowly find his way out of the Iifa Tree (though he does say he simply had to live and he sang Garnet/Dagger's sword - for what that's worth!). It'd be interesting to know how long it took him to find his way back to the Mist Continent and how many people knew he'd survived before he visibly returns at the end of the game. And they never really say anything about his lifespan as far as I'm aware.

I'm pretty sure Kuja used the last of his power to teleport Zidane and Co back after they beat Necron. As for Zidane's life expectancy, I don't believe he has one. Remember that while Kuja showed a lot more raw power, he was still technically the beta of Zidane, and thus incomplete.

Well they all escaped, but Zidane had to escape on his own...no being teleported, he even mentioned he just had to live, cause he wanted to see dagger, never nothing about being teleported and Zidane would have shown up right away had he been teleported, it is obvious it took him some time and you see Kuja pretty much die.

Its been a long time since I've played FF IX all the way through, I can't remember anything that infers his method of escape. You might try checking out FF IX and Zidane of the FF wiki here: finalfantasy.wikia.com

It's simply left unanswered how he escaped. Kuja teleports them away it seems. But Zidane goes back into the Iifa tree to see him.

It's never said Zidane is immortal is it. it says Kuja has the life of around 25 years, as he was the prototype. But Zidane I assume has the life span of a normal person.

Zidane goes into trance, trance is triggered by a surge of emotions. After seeing his brother pass away right in front of his eyes, Zidane's anger and sadness would of provoked his power of trance stopping the out of control tree from killing him, then he walked back to Garnet singing her song to make it through back to her arms, and back to his friends and family..

Zidane's lifespan is problery much stronger than Kuja's lifespan we don't really know for sure how long he's going to last before his time stops.

My theory? I think Zidane lives the same length of a normal human, and he escaped by being the strongest character in the game. On top of that, Kuja (much like genisis in ff7) is deteriorating to to the massive influx of power surging through him, and since he cna't control it, he dies. Actually a rather common theme in fantasy storytelling (It's gonna get old sooner or later).

Anyway, Zidane escapes by having an influx of power, much like his brother, after he goes into trance (because, let's face it, normal trance would just not be strong enough). At the end of the game its safe to assume that Zidane fully surpassed Kuja in power, and walked home singing (yes, he just seems so cool that he's WALK to another continent. Well, at least I'd like to think he was that cool.)

So yeah, the ending isn't really complicated, and doesn't have holes, you just have to read into it a little like the rest of the game.

Oh, and just to blurt it outloud, this is my favorite FF installment EVER, just cuz the characters and the story and the world were both retro and unique.

that kind of ending would have been interesting except for the Mikoto kills Garnet bit

But i always found the ending if IX sad in a way the game pretty much implied that
Zidane was in the Ilfa tree the entire time with his brother's corpse until Mikoto got him out

I guess I never really thought about him being in trance. Just that he may also have been a inch from death, but the thought of being with the woman he loved was something too strong to break.

But then, i think i'm just a romantic :whistle2:
