New rule

... far from the topic discussion I was looking for, but that's the length of time the announcement stays up. I just entered a random year a while away from now.

It doesn't seem to want to directly link... so... just look at the announcement. :P

EDIT: Link fixed. Now stop talking about things other than the damn rule.

I don't see why you are not allowed to advertise in your sig

what are they afraid that we might steal members? i dont like this rule too much but a rules a rule and i guess we just gotta deal with it

I don't think it's just to steal members.... Well I can see why.... I guess it's rather rude advertising your site on a site that is related to the theme. Conflict of interest.

Noone ever visits the Advertisements forum.

True, and that's because it's hidden real well. To be fair, I propose that we move the advertising section so that members can easily locate it. I suppose it does make the members feel like their advertising are being ignored because no one can really find it...or know of its existence, for that matter. =/

Anyway, the main reason for this rule is because of the fact that we already have an advertising section. I mean, it's not like we're strictly forbidding you to advertise completely on the site. You still can...just not in signatures because it defeats the purpose of the existing advertising board.

Now, notice that it says: "
Advertising Board: If you have a website or forum, you can post it here. Please note that advertising outside of this forum is not permitted." -

So really, it's asking you to advertise inside that section alone. If members advertise their forums in their signatures, then that means that in every single post they make, the links will be there (along with the same numerous posts count that member has)...so technically, that's advertising outside of that advertising board.

To top it all, I'll post what I've posted before regarding the issue:

"I signed up on a few forums for the sole purpose of advertising FFF. I linked the site to my signature, posted five - ten times, and never came back to the site. =/ I guess I wanted to make sure that whoever do read my posts, will notice the signature and sign up here. Well, they also had advertising section, but I felt that an extra push was necessary. "

Like Saix stated, it's perfectly fine to advertise in the existing board. Just not in signatures...

Can't be that bad, can it...?

I couldn't really care less now, seeing as FFF PM invasions haven't really come about anymore.

Eh, suppose it's right.

Its not because we are scared of our members going to other forums. Loads of people on here are part of different forums, but there is a correct place for it. Yes barely anyone goes to the advertising section, but now people will. Its only polite at the end of the day not going around saying in your sig on every single post "Hey, visit and join my fourm!!"

Im sure people who run their own forums dont like it and see it as being rude. But this is the new rule now.

If you advertise your own forum within a signature, you're essentially slapping the creator of the forum in the face, and not appreciating the work put into the site itself. It can be viewed as rude - which is the point of this.

If you think it sucks, well that's too bad. It's not like advertising has been completely abolished.

Wanting to visit The advertising forum is like wanting to turn on TV and find a channel full of adverts.

What if the website you advertise has nothing to do with FF?

Might be an entirely un FF related forum.

It's a TV show dedicated to commercials. If you don't want to watch commercials, don't watch the channel.

Indeed, its not like you cant show off your MySpace, DeviantArt or LiveJournal. Im sure those sites are still okay to advertise arent they?

That's my point, no one wants to watch adverts constantly, people just tend to see them at random points, and if it appeals to them , they buy/call/whatever it's advertising.
