FFXIII-2 Discussion Thread

^ hmmm Mog clock timer? Sounds intresting wonder how it works. I did see in the trailer some kind of compass-like thing it landed in the green and it had initiated a battle with a pre-emptive strike. Wonder what the red is.

I wonder if we get to equip the types of monsters we use, or are they going to be assigned to us as the story progresses?

It doesn't sound like a bad idea. However I don't think people (not me) will like the battle despite it's changes. They are nice changes but one thing they absolutley MUST do is let us control every character during a battle, looks unlikely since the paradigm is there......But If they can't address that issue, it's not gonna go down well with the general audience.

Green:premptive strike + buffs (haste, etc) + staggered enemy
Yellow: normal battle
Red: debuffs on you, like slow, etc

From what I hear from various interviews, you are free to equip what monsters. Once you capture them, they will be in your team permanently. They also level up with you. Similar to pokemon. So once you get many monsters, strategy and variety will be more complex.

I cringed when I heard rap music was gonna be used as a map theme, but that wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it'd be. 8( Battle theme on the other hand leaves a lot to be desired.

That mini-game looks oddly addictive, though I hope later on in the game, we'll see it come in more challenging forms. A timer would be nice too. And I like what they did with the monsters appearing on the map.

Thanks for posting all of the info!

All of I looks pretty good...I'm liking the new changes and it's definitely going to be better than the first. The towns look big and explorable and the capture system... :ryan:

I'm hoping they don't completely throw away the old cast.Noel looks alright but I hope he is somehow linked to the other characters. I think it's just me,but the first time I saw him, he reminded me of Fang (the clothes maybe?)

^Something positive about rap finally on the FFF

Rap music finally, I don't usually like this kinda rap but it flows and its aight. Even though I am a rap enthusiast, I'm not that sure it will suit with the overall game even as a map theme. I mean this is meant to be more dark and mysterious............

I think the rap music fits the rainy environment. But I hope there aren't too many of such music. I prefer those with catchy melody.

So far, in my opinion, the best music they have released for XIII-2 is a segment from the full e3 trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWPz10bIt8w
0:19 - 0:50

It was so good that I even transcribed the piano notes. Btw if you scroll down the comments and see someone posting the notes for the music, that's me :)

I like the key change in the end (0:44-0:46), but is disappointed that it ends right after that... Hopefully there is a full version to this segment with a proper chorus, and/or various remixes.

I think I am going to be very sad if there is no piano collections album for XIII-2. And this song better be in it >_>

Yeah I like the changes in the song too, and like the person commenting said there from 0:52, it sounds like FFX's assualt (not attack). I also like at 1:31 when the violins came I think that's that's the best part of the song. :) I hope it's a shortneded version of Lightning's theme.

Also visit the Japansese website of FFXIII-2: http://web. square-enix.co.jp/fabula/ff13-2/. This site is much better then the European of North American official sites, don't worry because most of it will be in English for us. It's got music (from the trailer),downloads, screenshots etc.

Jump has a one page report on Final Fantasy XIII-2 this week. There isn't much new beyond what was announced at E3, except for the following bits:

  • The magazine has Japanese language screenshots (all the E3 shots, and the E3 trailer, were English)
  • The magazine says that the name for the "Optima Change" system has been changed to the English version's "Paradigm Shift." This system lets you switch the roles/jobs of your party members instantly during battle.
  • Development is currently 70% complete.
And that's all that's new as far as I can see. Famitsu and Dengeki are supposed to have reports on the game this week, so we can hopefully look forward to additional details.

Development is currently 70% complete.

Ah now that is interesting.

I'm gonna have a wild guess and do some maths :-)grin:) as well, they probably took a full year to complete this 70%.
So that means 6 months =35%
1 month=7%
15 days= 3.5%
2.3333333333333333333333333333333 days = 0.25%
9.3333333333333333333333333333333 days = 1%
1 week = 1.25%

6 months (35%) - 1 months (7%) = 28% + 15 days (3.5%) = 31.5% - 1 week (1.25&) = 30.25% - 2.333333333 days = 30% left

So if you can read from the calculation above the game will take approximately 5 MONTHS AND 5.6666666666666666666666666666667 DAYS! :wacky:

IF THAT IS CORRECT THAT MEANS DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME WILL FINISH NOVEMEBER 13TH MIDDAY...............AND I AM A GENIUS!?!?! :griin:

EDIT: I THINK THEY SHOULD COMPLETE ITS PRODUCTION DURING NOVEMBER

I'm really loving the gameplay videos that are being put up here, it shows quite a bit for a game that's gonna be about another 6 months to release. If I'm honest though I'm not too sure about the whole monsters battling for you though, other than that the battle system seems alright. :awesome:

And watching all this poses so many questions about the plot of the game, like where the hell is Snow? There must be some big stuff going down cos I reckon Square Enix knew we were gonna start asking these questions as soon as they paired Serah and Noel together. And they're going back to Cocoon? Didn't think that would be possible, but hey, whatever works.

It seems that Masashi Hamauzu is returning to compose XIII-2. However, there are other composers joining him, to be announced in the future. Also, from the interview link they gave, it seems that in the game, you can save anywhere you want.

Source: gamenyusu and Fokgames

Although it's highly unlikely, I hope one of the composers yet to be revealed is Nobuo Uematsu. He makes a good combo with Hamauzu IMO. I really REALLY (I mean it) want the traditional victory fanfare to return. The demo proves otherwise, since the FFXIII short fanfare was heard. Hopefully it will be changed during the development. I also want the main theme of FF to return in some form or another.

About saving anywhere, I think it's not really new. We can save anywhere in the world map in some of the older games before X. Besides, 'retry' option in XIII and XIII-2 has already defeated the purpose of repeating a dungeon by reloading the last save file. Also, with free saving, it may be easier to retry if you chose a live trigger that leads to some undesirable outcome.

I suddenly got this random interesting observation.
There seems to be a similarity between FFX summoning system and FFXIII-2 monster capturing:
-these aeons/monsters can fight for you using normal moves when they are summoned.
-when the gauge (overdrive/feral link) fills up, they will unleash a strong attack
-after the aeon/monster unleash the powerful attack, they still remain in the party and carry out regular attacks again
-Aeons can level up and learn abilities in X. Coincidentally, FFXIII-2 captured monsters will level up with the characters, as heard in one of the interviews. Thus we can safely assume they also gain new abilities.
-Aeons in X are distinguished from one another by their unique stats differences. e.g. Shiva has very high speed, but low HP, etc. This is also like XIII-2 where the monsters are unique in terms of paradigm role, i.e. flanbanero - ravager.

I speculate that in XIII-2, there might be exceptionally strong monsters that can only be obtained optionally through long side quests. Isn't this similar to X, where you have to go to the optional dungeon (cavern of the stolen fayth) to get Yojimbo? Such hidden summons are also seen in the older FFs. Although it's confirmed that Serah has no summons, these exceptionally strong monsters may be equivalent in terms of strength as summons would be.

Speaking of Yojimbo (whom you need to literally buy to get), it may also possible that you can buy regular monster crystals from NPC shops.

Just speculating though.

Square Enix “considering the possibilities of bringing Final Fantasy” to Wii U

Square Enix and FFXIII-2 producer Yoshinori Kitase has said that the company is “considering the possibilities” in having Final Fantasy come to Wii U.

“Three or four years ago we joked around about developing a Final Fantasy game on the Wii Fit balance board,” Kitase said at E3 last week (via C3).

“But after seeing Wii U revealed at Nintendo’s conference, we are now considering the possibilities of bringing the Final Fantasy series to the format.”

Kitase is currently working on Final Fantasy XIII-2 for an early 2012 western release for PS3 and 360.

Hopefully they are not considering FFXIII-2 for wii U for now. Probably they can do this for FFXV or spin-offs. I just don' want the smooth development for XIII-2 to be messed up :hmmm:

Anyway, this was posted in the news section already, unless you copied it from there for discussion here.

Yeah I just saw that information posted in the news section by Fleur. I didn't know it was already posted by him/her. Sorry about that.

Anyway, dont you think that Final Fantasy XIII-2 is more of like a FFX clone or not?
