FFXIII-2 Discussion Thread

Very ironic that you've posted this, Ringo. :wacky:

I thought this was somehow fake at first because this seemed to come from nowhere (I had no forewarning about this) and I'm so not used to seeing English screens before Japanese ones. For a moment there I thought Noel raided Fang's wardrobe, but hey! We get our man-who-looks-like-a-girl protagonist for the game! And Serah's actually doing something that isn't being stuck in a crystal? The mind boggles, though I can't say this was unexpected.

Battle-wise, I still see that Auto-Battle command, so expect more of the same from FFXIII. Roles and paradigm shift returning to no one's surprise, and no stagger bar by the looks of things, which could be a blessing. Mmmm, yeah, this does look like an early part of the game. I see a dude in purple cowering in that first screen! Hurray for actual people being around?

EDIT: From Andriasang

"Set a few years after Lightning and the others saved Cocoon, some survivors have decided to start over by rebuilding on Gran Pulse. Lightning, however, is nowhere to be found and thought dead by many, but Serah believes otherwise. When her town is suddenly overrun by monsters, a mysterious man named Noel appears to save her. Together, the two set off to find Lightning..."
Talk amongst yourselves, people.

EDIT EDIT:

Noel said:
Save it for later. You can fight, can't you?

Serah said:
Uhh, no? I've never fought anything before in my life! I've spent much of the last game encased in a crystal! Why on earth would you think I can fight?"

...would be the response I want from her. :mokken:

wtf same, this just came out of nowhere?

And who the heck is this Noel guy anyway? (I suspect it may be the guy on the cover)

I dont see much differences from the original gameplay though :hmph:.....auto-battle is still there so it looks like I still may be mashing the x button all the way throughout. Paradigm feature also is still there,so nothing is looking different. Reflecting on what I've seen I think it may be a :fail: among the general audience, but if they can keep up the tempo of FFXIII and carry on the story as nicely it'll be just fine.

As for Serah being playable I'm not too fussed, I would probably expect Lightning to be protective of her.......You can't really tell what kind of character she is anyway from FFXIII she's probably just there to replace Vanille as a white mage. This Noel guy looks kind of weird, but I hope he's just a guest or something even though its likely he's a character :hmph:.......Seriously even by looking at him you can tell he won't go down with Lightning,he just probably there to replace Fang like Serah is for Vanille.

EDIT: The story also sounds a little mysterious, since this is an early part of the game I'm guessing we'll be looking for Lightning wherever she's gone. :hmmm:

:hmmm: It might be slightly early for this, but it looks like there's some kind of civillization on Gran Pulse (not unless its just Oerba in the 2nd pic). But that should be a sigh of relief for most of us, I can see towns along with large green fields coming back into this game.

I'm not gonna lie, Noel looks pretty hawt. :ryan:

Serah's by herself there though? The implication of whether or not she can fight makes me assume that Snow's nowhere around to protect her and be the Hero an shit. Wonder what happened to him..

As long as Auto-battle still exists, I doubt the battle system will make much of an improvement. With Lightning being 'dead', that's like the ultimate cliche sequel starter EVER. I'm surprised they already got THIS far so quickly, it looks like it's all Englished up, too. How on Earth did they make it so fast? I think this game could be a disaster...

As for Noel. I AM NOT going to be able to hear his name without thinking "Santa Claus" or "Christmas".

Well did you ever read Final Fantasy XIII episode I? That basically explains what leads to the events of XIII-2 and why civilization on Pulse is happening. http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XIII_-Episode_i- :monster:

wtf?!?! 8( How did I not know about this?!?!?!

I heard about something called episode 1 but I just thought it was probably fan-made (I dont really know why I thought that either, when there isnt really arent much FFXIII fans :wacky:).

Rem Tokimiya Is this essential? As in storyline terms,or will NOT reading this leave me confused during the game......cause I'm not a big fan of reading.

Well... actually.. if you have been reading this thread from the very beginning.. you should know about it. :wacky: It is essential for the storyline, yes. It leads up to the events of XIII-2. If you recall from the first trailer.. Lightning was in a different world. Well at the end of episode I.. as I have said long ago in this thread, Lightning finds herself into that world that was shown in the first trailer. Also if you want the translations they are on the bottom of the wiki page. Dilly Dilly shilly shally.

I don't think you even need to read it. You can probably summarise the novella into a few sentences anyway:

+ Takes place straight after ending of FFXIII
+ People evacuating from Cocoon onto Pulse
+ Sazh goes flying an airship to help
+ Hope and his dad reunite.
+ Lightning disappears into a mysterious world (that has monsters) for some undisclosed reason.

That's probably it. The sequel will undoubtedly mention all that as well, so you won't need to read it at all. In fact, the novella were never officially released in English I don't think, so there's another clue that it isn't that important.

Well you could've spoiler tagged that :wacky:...But thanks anyway,I don't have to bore myself out now by reading some meaningless story 6 chapters long.

Is this other world Lightning disappears to......another world? (as in not Pulse)

Well, Yes and no. Some people may not care for it or ever come across it yes, but it has been translated and I think it is a good read for people who are interested. The final game may look back at episode I in flashbacks, just like XIII did with episode Zero in flashbacks which may not make it worth reading.. so you do have a point. It could be essential for people who like the story and want to read it before seeing cut scenes of it in XIII-2.

The screens are in english, with a little hope for you guys it could be release in the U.S. at the same of time than the japanese!

Yay for towns (and apparently, NPCs). I just hope these are traditional FF towns where you can talk to NPCs (who give intelligent and multiple responses), buy stuff from merchants, participate in mini-games/sidequests.

I like Noel's character design, although there is that obvious suspicion that he's a rip-off from the scraped male Fang. Thinking positively, he may just be Fang's brother (but that's unlikely.
Fang and Vanille were crystallised for 500 years
).

Out of all the roles, why must Serah be a commando? I hope the screenshots are not final. And where's Snow? He would have killed Noel for interacting with Serah if he was there. As much as it is good news that his appearance appears to be minimal, it's still weird how only 'the two' (Noel and Serah) set off to find Lightning, while Serah is presumably married already.

To be honest though, NoelxSerah is much better than SnowxSerah in my opinion, just by looking at the early screenshot.

Oh and the most disappointing part of all. The battle system does not appear to be changed, except graphically. I am angry that they did not remove auto-battle. As much as it is helpful, I don't want to spend another game mindlessly mashing the X button.

Most likely it's just an unfinished screenshot, but I am actually happy that the stagger system is absent.

Can't wait for more news. E3 2011 is coming!

Well prepare yerself for FFXIII Versus, cuz it will be full time button smashing,..a bit like kingdom hearts!

Those must be the starting roles :hmmm:. I am sure it will be just like Final Fantasy XIII and all the roles will be available after a set amount of time. It will probably begin with Noel saving Serah once the player eventually gets attacked by monsters. It could be possible that Noel was the original design of Fang when they said she was supposed to be a guy. Not final on that though.

Sigh at the new trailer. I was hoping that the game would be canceled. :amg: and they would start concertinaing on bringing out Versus, since we've been waiting for six years or something now. At the moment XIII-2 just looks the same as the original, expect for new characters. Not impressive. :jtc:

other than new characters,
-real moving moogle
-real NPCs
-puzzle (those red tiles thing; unstable rift)
-'cinematic action' (probably quick time events)
-'enemy controlling' system (the pulseworker)
-town
Cid XIII-2 Don't get me wrong I did like FFXIII and I am going to by XIII-2, but we know a lot of peope hated XIII. And none of the reasons above are good enough to actually buy this sequel if you hated/disliked XIII.

-The other new characters (Noel,Serah, and probably some members of NORA) I wouldn't say is something to look forward to, it looks like this games just gonna throw in some new characters to add to the mix.

-Moogles arent anything there just pet toys, I don't see this moogle having any significant input in the game other then being in some cutscenes just wandering around (bit like Sazh's chocobo).

-NPC's arent that great either, the (few) NPC's in XIII, didnt really say much other than how they were feeling,I expect the same in this.

-Puzzles: well thats a sigh of relief if there is.....but I'm not sure if that red-tile thing really is a puzzle/minigame......I'm imagining it's something like the cloister of trails in X (which was annoying :rage:) I'm iagining it will lead on to reveal an extra location perhaps in XIII-2.

-Cinematic action :hmph: it's a game not a movie

-Enemy controlling system, well thats something intresting. But I don't think it will fix people's rage with the battle system altogether as it look exactly the same.

-Town's are a sigh of relief, but it's pulse and from what I've seen in the 20 seonds most look empty.

So it's not looking good so far for people who disliked FFXIII.......But I probably will buy it despite its minor (hardly any) improvements :wacky:.
