If their is a remake outside of just updating graphics I hope they include a ton more content (weapons etc), more game play (more quests? or more storyline), and def. more story background.

No no no no no. We don't need ANY story "improvements" all the game needs is more mini games, better graphics, maybe more small details like weapons and stuff, but that is it.
We love FFVII's original storyline, not new stuff.

I wonder if they would take the "optional" part of Yuffie and Vincent out, seeing as they've become pretty popular? You can bet your ass they would be included in the ending this time though, probably based of if you got them or not (if they keep them as optional)
I agreed with you Cali. The story should be untouched, as well as the BGM. The only thing that I would like to see improved in a FFVII Remake is to see the changes of the weapon details of every character when they are been equipped, fix the mispellings in the storyline, add some new mini games, etc.No no no no no. You know what the thing is with SE losing so much money? Is that the project of an VII: Re is that its really unpredictable about how it could go. If they mess it up in any way, they'll piss a lot of people off. They would have to pour SO much money into it due to what's required and needed of it... And they already lost so much over the last few years? Could they ever really recover? Could even a Remake save them from debt? It could potentially ruin them even further, there's no telling how it could go.
Though, that's how the Final Fantasy series originally began. They weren't making the best games, and they were facing bankruptcy, so they took a gamble and prayed that it landed on the right coin. If they're taking another risk with the FFVII remake, if the coin lands in their favor again, it could mean another Golden age, or the the death of the company. It would be completely tragic though, if they started with a huge gamble and then ended with one.
I have to agree with Cali. No storyline changes, and about loosing Cait Sith. Know alot of people hate him, including me, but he was extremely important to the game, and he's also part of Reeve and Shrinra.
If that happened, and it failed, it would be proof that SE cannot get anything right anymore. The only thing they've gotten right is Dragon Quest VIII and IX...
But those were made by Level 5.
So, if they ended up screwing that up and totally making my day when I can drink glasses full of fanboy tears, I would hope they would be forced to shut down. (Very unlikely, but one can dream.)

People like to talk shit left and right of FFXIII (even though it was an alright game), but the game sold relatively well. A FFVII remake, regardless of what is touched or not touched, will still sell enough to at least make some profit for S-E. At least I think so
You know honestly, I feel sorry for game companies of long running series. Do people think they aren't tearing their hair out, or are just one tweet or vid message away from screaming "WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU PEOPLE WANT?!"

I haven't watched an E3 dedicatedly in a few years so I'm a little confused on when stuff happens like smaller announcements. And I'm sorry, but whoever said this thread should be closed now, is wrong. Sony wouldn't have announced a VII remake during their huge conference yesterday. They'd announce it in a smaller way seeing how FF series isn't really looked at seriously by many Americans. Yesterday was about apologizing and showing bigger franchises here in America.

I gotta admit Cali, seeing how set you are on this is making me lean more on go remake it side. It will most likely happen eventually, all FFs will most likely end up getting remade at some point, I mean, all the FFs before VII have been on 3 consoles minimum. So it'll happen for VII too, then VIII and IX eventually.
I guess I can assure you it'll happen before you're 30.

I saw this thread and I just knew I had to post....and then get attacked by the fanboys.
Square should totally update the story. It's full of holes and with the all the added they've done, it makes sense to connect it into the original if it's remade. Of course, like the old Star Wars movies were edited for re-release, it makes sense that a game that has had it's share of sequels and prequels would be as well. But wait...those fans also went crazy and cried over...added special effects and Hayden Christensen at the end?
Two, this is not the Final Fantasy that everyone wants, it's the Final Fantasy that a vocal portion of the fandom wants. I, for one, could care less if they make it HD. It doesn't change the fact that the only decent characters are killed. Maybe the will have Al Gore narrate this new FF7, and it will be subtitled...An Inconvenient Game.They can show us how Mako is causing global warming and melting the nonexistent polar ice caps, until George Stephanopoulos runs Ann Coulter through with a long sword.
Square loves money so much now that no doubt they will remake it eventually, if only to cash in on the fanboys who will fap to every bit of it's HD glory. Hell I wouldn't mind it if I can't already see the people declaring it the best remake of the best game ever. I can fap to a slightly above average RPG getting updated, and having it's wholes filled in, but I won't stand for this everyone wants it nonsense. I do not want it. I may play it when it comes out if I think it looks interesting. I have not spent every day since it came out wishing for it.
I want an FF8 remake. Or an FF9. Or the other better Final Fantasies that are ignored because Square loves money and Final Fantasy 7 sells the best. It's the Lady Gaga of Final Fantasies. It won't leave us alone. It has to force us to realize it's greatness. Because it's the best game of all time, but in the same she's the best artist of all time.
