Best story in a Final Fantasy

I can't vote for any of these because i feel that Final Fantasy Tactics had the best storyline. The story was deep and political and it was fun to play through. There was a lot of ups and downs that happenend and it had a fairly sad ending (not as sad as FFX or FFVII though).

My vote goes to X. Mainly because of how it's presented. Since Tidus is completely new to this version of Spira, we learn and experience things as he does which really helps you to connect to him.

It's also got a very tragic element to it, it's a story where
even though the world is saved, and the party accomplishes everything it set out to do, you still feel sad and upset over Tidus's ceasing to exist
.

It's great to see that everyone here actaully does indeed know what they are talking about. X has the best story hands down, and the votes show that. The plot is so unique and unfolds in an emotional and profond way. I can't even describe anymore- it's just so good.

For me, it's between X or VII

I voted for X

Both have good stories and endings to them.

The music for Final Fantasy X was great, I love the soundtrack. I like most of the tracks more than VII's.

Every poll I've seen on this question, "What is the best Final Fantasy?" It is always VII and X who are voted the most.

Isn't that a bit rude to say that? Everyone has their own opinion afterall.

Anyways, I think that XII has the best story thus far. It isn't written by Kitase, so that automatically makes it high on my list. Plus, it's a nice change from the love story that we had continuously from VI - X inclusive (no idea about XI, as I've never played it). The story was powerful, and actually made sense.

Sure, the character's weren't developed much, but that's no the point of that kind of story.

I actually like love stories. They bring that element of tragedy if it is done right. Which is what X did and X-2 subsequently ruined.

Incidentally X is my vote. It's very different from all the "resistance against an evil military force" cliches. It
deliberately involves antagonising and destroying a religion (Yevon).

For once in a FF game a player actually understands the characters' situations. The player actually develops an attachment to Spira and all the characters so they actually care about saving the world.

As much as I liked XII, I didn't get that same attachment to the characters as I had in X. Balthier was good, but for Vaan, I just couldn't care much for him. His brother's dead. What does he plan to do? Revenge on the empire. How? He hasn't a clue for 90% of the game. Vaan is shallow overall.

Well, for me it would be FFX, which is also my favourite FF cause of its wonderful storyline.

It is still amazing when I think back now how the various plot twists just got me taken aback from time to time. It's like they kept coming and coming when you least expected. Contrary to what many believe, I don't find the voice acting a nuisance, it definitely IMO aids the emotional development of the storyline.

As said, X's story is great because it touches on huge issues(In this case, politics and religion) whilst at the same time developing the characters with much personal sub-plots. In the end, these plot-lines are all intertwined, everyone is connected and you realise how beautifully the story is weaved.

For people who think FFXII has a weak story, I don't really think so. For me, it's quite a distant second behind X. FFXII has such a mature storyline that I think would take some time to digest. And it's completely relevant if one is kept up with real life current affairs, issues regarding war, invasion. Of course the only gripe I've with regards to the storyline is the relatively little character development. But that is only inevitable due to the enormous plot they've going. In terms of outlining the pains of war and internal struggles of politics/politicians, I think XII did a pretty good job in managing such mature themes.

I agree with that. Tactics had an amazing storyline.

But, if I were limited to the main games in the series... Well, I'd be torn between VI and X. I loved the whole WoB/WoR thing in VI, and the characters were pretty well developed and likable for the most part. X was also interesting, and I feel the linear quality of the game kept the plot plot going at a steadier pace than VI.

It's just impossible to vote on this one, FFVII, FFIX, FFX and FFXII all had great story.

It's a tough choice between VII and X for me. I loved both of them but for simply the story I will have to go with X. I loved the story in that game, it's what got me into FF, and there were some parts that were so deep it was amazing. So while I like FFVII more on a whole I will go with X for the story, I loved Tidus's story and how amazing and heartbreaking it could all be at the same time.

This is so hard! I'm torn between FFIV,FFVI, and FFVII. I really can't make a choice. All of them have a really good storyline, with FFVI and FFVII being the most deep. FFIV had really impressing characters (my favorites being Rydia, Edge, Cecil and Rosa). FFVI, had such a wide and deep story, where all the characters stories were very well developed, it was like there wasn't a main character. The story was touching, moving, sad and suspensful at the same time. FFVII is also quite cool. I have to admit, there are so many games in this compilation, this story could possibly be deeper that FFVI. The characters in this game makes us quite attached to them.

Got to be X

Final Fantasy 10 all the way, corrupt government, controling a system that has allways worked, but some rebles come and stop that. Great!

I would have to say Final Fantasy 10 because throughout the game i was on the edge of my seat and i didnt want to put my controller down because i wanted to see what happend next (i played 10 hours a day for like 2 weeks) :gasp: it was school holidays soo i had lots of free time lool

Agh, tough choice >.< After a lot of deliberation I decided to vote for FFVI (despite VII being my favorite game). The story is really good and the way it develops was unique in a Final Fantasy so far. It's sad how
the world is actually destroyed D=
.

Followed by VI would be VII and then X.

Final Fantasy X of course ! ; ]] I loved story with Guardians, summoners and Sin!; ]] I just love it!

Try to avoid short posts like that, in the future, please - have a look around this thread and see the other posts: there's plenty more you could say! We want to hear it. :)

My favorite storyline, or the storyline I believe is the best, has to be FFVII. It is also one of the main reasons I enjoy the game so much, and why it is my favorite game in the story. The storyline is just so great. The clashes between two former friends, Sephiroth and Cloud, all of the characters and the way they develop, and of course Cloud's issues through the game and the way he develops and changes. The final battle is epic. Cloud, the low-class soldier taking on Sephiroth, one of the greatest soldiers that ever lived. Meanwhile the entire planet is falling apart, and Cloud and his gang have to save it. It is just such a great story. I loved this game for so many reasons, but the storyline had so many plots and twists and it was just great. It was confusing at times, but if you beat the entire game you get the hang of it and you learn so many things you didn't know before.

I feel like VIII was my favourite story because i loved how each character is really unique and expresses different themes and emotions that each and every one of us can identify with, or at least thats how i see it.

I also like how deep the story is, it's like a book to me, you can skim past all the hidden messeges the first time but when you replay it there is a lot of depth and links and connections to each of the characters that most people can miss the first time round =]

I can't really choose because I love them all but if had had to narrow it down I would say that my three favorite were VI, VII, and VIII. I loved each of them about equally but if I had to pick the story that intrigued me the most I would have to choose VII. It just has a narrative power to it that most of the other games lack and leaves you with a sense of satisfaction while at the same time wanting more, and that's what makes it the best IMO.

My own personal favourite is VII but I kind of feel biased towards it since it's my favourite in terms of gameplay, characters etc. VIII, however, was always one of my favourites of the series and yet I hated the Junction system, I can't help but feel it was because of the storyline as I was never too fond of a lot of the characters either. Sure, it's a soppy one but that's what I think makes it so great. I'm not usually a fan of stories such as the one featured in VIII but even I enjoyed it and to potray a love story as the focal point of a computer game is by no means an easy thing to do; at least to do it well.
