LOL, no offense, but I hate those bastards at Geek Squad. They always side step what's actually wrong with the PC when they're explaining it to you because they don't actually know what's wrong. Or they try to use big computer words that would probably work on people who don't know anything about computers. "Oh yeah, that power supply is probably busted". It's like, wth are you talking about lol, it turns on FINE.

I could probably fix my own stuff, but it's always nice to get it "professionally" done I guess.

It really depends on the Geek Squad you go into, and the people they have working there. We don't screw things up at my store, and we do tell the customers the truth about what's wrong with their computer...we just charge RIDICULOUS prices to fix the problems.

As for me ripping people off, that has to do with services for warranties and in-home services that only people with more money than brains would buy into. At least Best Buy doesn't have the horrible rebates and overly-expensive protection plans like Circuit City did, that was my last job. I've been in Tech retail for the past 2 years now.

Get ready for some laughs, I work at McDonalds. It's not that bad, my store isn't that busy compared to other ones, but it really sucks when people come in with their entire familys and order like three Bigmacs, five Double Cheese Burgers, twenty Nuggets... And since there is usually more people on counter then in the kitchen (where I work), all they really do is press buttons for the food, and we have to make them.. We just get swamped with orders and it's really exhausting trying to move so fast.

If anyone here regularly eats at McDonalds, have some courtesy, and order one meal. You might not think it makes a difference, but when we get a bunch of huge orders, and then we get someone who orders one burger, we are so happy, and me and my crew usually tend to make that one specific burger better (extra toppings, not as sloppy) as a thanks.

Seems we have two members who went through the horrors of fast food work. My first job was working at a subshop that my parents own, so, it wasn't too bad for me. Since then, I went to Circuit City, and now I'm at Best Buy.

Threads merged.

I currently work in local government as a Departmental Administrator. Sadly I'm under the Finance & Performance department, so there's quite a lot of dealing with numbers; which I can't say I enjoy. However on the Performance side of my job, I get to sit in with applicants during their job interviews and take notes, and aid in the development of new procedures for said department. Two of them have even been submitted for the full county. =O

I'm quitting though; the responsibilities I've had to adopt since the Senior Administrator left are obscene, and I'm still only on my basic wage (£14,000 per annum). Yes it's good money, but there's no compromise for my situation at all, so I'm out in two weeks; see how they like no administrators at all.

Previous careers have been on a far less grand scale, namely waiting on, serving behind the counter in my local Spar [newsagents], and washing dishes when I was 14. :(

I stopped going to McDonalds because their meat makes my tummy ache. But I pigged out when I did go. I'd order like 4 Big and Tasty's, 2 McChickens, a Big Mac, some fries maybe. Course I wouldn't eat for the rest of the day. Always thought they gave me the evil eye when I ordered so much.

Yes i do have a job, but i only work in the summer time. I work with my dad at his work from 7am - 5pm 5 days a week =[

He works at AGO Industries, where they make welding curtains and overalls for construction workers. My job is to gromite the welding curtains X_X Its really boring, but i get 1.50$ more then the average pay for students (10$ an hour canadian)

i recently got well i can't say fired as i Quit but i recently lost my job. but i am a full time student now but i put no job

Darn...I can't select two poll options. I'm a full-time student working a part-time job.

Dude, it'd be awesome to be able to afford that...though I guess that applies to plenty of people who are still in high school.

But yeah, still working in a grocery store. Not sure if I'll look for another job this summer or not. Frankly, the pay I receive isn't worth the pain I endure while dealing with whinny, old farts. Can't be too picky, I guess.

Har, har. Never had a job. Graduation is in a few weeks, and I think getting a job is just dumb. I mean, we have our ENTIRE LIVES to work, so why start so early? These are the last few months of my childhood, so I want to prolong them and have as much fun as possible before I have to go to college and then the real world. :|

Thankfully, my dad pays for my gas... yessss. :)

i couldn't stand working fast-food.
because people are mean as hell to them (it like WOW there life is shit anyways lets make it worse =D)

i just recently got treated like shit by the employee haha...
i asked for a hamburger with no onions..
she fuckin gave me cheese.. i hate cheese...........
so i told her i said hamburger, and she told me no i wanted cheese.
and she ignored me and left me waiting in the fucking front of the counter. and it took the manager like 10 minutes to finally ask me what i wanted (whilst i was cussing out said employee the ENTIRE time) and hes just lucky he told me sorry.... lmao

it just shows how employees get pissed when you tell them they messed up..

i never had a job but i need to start working.. im 17 and i plan on moving out (before im 18) far freakin away from my parents

I started working when I was 15...and I really ENJOYED working, and still do. It was always nice having fun money to spend on whatever I wanted to. My parents covered all of my bills and gas, so I was just working to have fun. Plus, it was nice to do something productive instead of sitting around all day. xD

We may have all of our lives to work, but you don't have all of your lives to work and earn money that is JUST for entertainment. That's why I worked so early, because so long as I'm under my parent's roof, I could have plenty of money to spend on whatever I wanted to.

Me too! I do enjoy working at the place I'm working now. I hated my old jobs besides working at Gamestop.

I love having money of my own and I don't have to bother my parents for money. My parents cover my bills as well unless I over use my phone minutes or purchase something on my phone. I love spending money on food... I eat out at least once or twice a week.

I dislike most retail jobs... My first job was at a super market working at a cashier. I hated it, and quit after a while. It's so stressful dealing with annoying old people. Then you have fat people who won't bag their own shit and I want to scream at them. I was 17 when I had the job. I couldn't handle it at times and I started to cry during work. -__-

I started working at Gamestop after... Gosh I've worked there since I was 17 to... 19? The only problem was that I barely got any hours. :/ Part-timers would only work once or twice a week. It was boring working there at times... You're not allowed to sit down and play games by the way.

Next job was at Macys... GOD IT WAS SO BORING! On a regular weekday the store was empty. I would just organize clothes and take a few costumers... That's it...

After that I got a job at Best Buy working in the Media section. I hated it. It was so dull and I couldn't stand the managers. They were incredibly fake and skeevy. My media manager was some fatass who just got out of college who drank a lot. Most of the managers were college students that dropped out because they partied too much.

I got a job at another Super Market working at the Bakery. (My current Job) It was hard to get use to at first but I love my job now. I don't even bother to look at the clock, time goes by very fast. My manager lets me have any extra stuff that was baked. Also we have gourmet Italian pastries. :wacky:

Damn, I'd love to work at Gamestop. They're never hiring where I live though. I could go work at Target right next to it but I'm too lazy and unmotivated I guess.

Only problem was I think they paid 8.50 or something.

I'd look weird in a bakery haha.

Working at Target would blow. Every stinking day looks like Valentine's Day at that place. So much red and white. It's overwhelming!

At least there's a Pizza Hut in the Target I've been to. Pretty nifty.

Yeah, there's a Pizza Hut, McDonald's and Taco Bell in the one I go to. I hear they treat their employees well. That's the only reason I want to work there.

Another thing, is that whilst I want a part-time job, it won't be permanent, simply to get money.

I have serious career ambitions, but you often have to do dirty/tedious jobs to get your foot on the ladder. I'm not going to work as a shop assistant all my life, hell no. I'm going to get something that pays well, and that most of all, I can actually enjoy doing. I could never be content as a low-level labourer.

Workin' 9 'til 5...

So, some of us are bound to have jobs. What's your occupation? How did you get into it? What keeps you there? Have you left jobs in the past? For what reason?

I'm now working in Boots (a pharmacy/cosmetics franchise). I'll be underdoing a Sale of Medicines course relatively soon and I get a nice little qualification to certify this at the end, which, apparently, Universities and future employers love to see. I was offerred the job simply when I went in to pick up my prescription. :wacky: I get an hour and a half for lunch and I live about 2 minutes walking distance away. It's a perfect job for me, especially in terms of shifts - 9-5 one week then 9-2 the next, saturdays only.

I don't work because I'm one of these people who think I should enjoy myself whilst I'm still young, in fact, bar 1 or 2 people, none of my mates have jobs either. I got offered one working where my step dad works doing some databases for a couple of hundred a week, but I turned it down because databases are boring >.>
