This isn't a comparison topic, although it may appear as one. It's just a simple question spawned from simple curiosity. I've heard of people who hate Squall, Tidus, Vaan, and even Zidane (although the last is rare). I've heard of people who hate Cloud and Tifa as a couple. I've heard of people who hate Cloud and Aeris as a couple. And I've heard the very few you hate Cloud and Barret as a couple... *cough* I have never heard of anyone say that they hate Cloud Strife. Not once. Not ever. I've heard him slanderously described as emo, overrated, underdeveloped, and devoid of a personality... but never that he was hated.

Does anyone HATE the man?
 
cloud is way over rated now vincent he is underrated we don't hear about him very often i wish some one would say something about him he was cool

Im going with Yes he is overrated but still you gotts to love the cloud ^_^
 
Vincent's under-rated when he has his own game.....meh, to each his own.
Still, the question at hand: Cloud. I do feel he's over-rated ( as is 7 on a whole ) but he has his moments and serves as a likable enough main character....certainly superior to either Squall or Tidus in my view.
 
I don't care how overrated people may feel Cloud is, I adore him to no ends. I think it's excellent how his character is so complex, that you can never tell what Cloud is feeling, but the man pretty much speaks with his eyes. He's handsome (which is an added bonus) and he's a bad ass swordsman. I chose I love him because I do ^^ He's my favorite male FF character.
 
Cloud is overrated because at the time ff7 came out he was a strange hero, He was wreckless and clouded. His name describes the character because cloud in new roman catholic means confused and holding a grudge with himself.
 
Cloud is overrated, but I do not hate him. He's a great fit of a main character in a great game. Sure as the fanboyishness continues, gets more popular and popular, it get annoying. However, as Babe Ruth said in the movie "The Sandlot": "Heros will always be remembered, but Legends never die."
 
He is overrated I think, but that's not to say that I dislike him. I still think he's a pretty good main character (though I prefer Squall and even Zidane). As the post above says, the constant worship of Cloud can be a bit irritating, but that's not the character's fault after all.
 
Cloud isn't my favorite character, but I don't hate or even dislike him (I prefer Zidane tbh).

I just think he's incredibly overrated. He's cool for the most part, despite the emo-ness and he looks cool but I mean......I don't find him to be anything special.
 
Cloud is overrated.
Cloud's fanbase has made him out to be something that he's not. In fact, his actions in Advent Children were ridiculously out of character. Cloud was always the leading man in FFVII. Not just in terms of character rolls; I mean he was always the team leader. He never abandoned his friends. AC made him out to be a spiteful loner.
Don't pull any of those "Well he's sad because Aerith died" excuses...Cloud stood next to his friends even after Aerith's death in FFVII. In AC, he doesn't even answer their calls. And if you'll recall...Cloud always answered his phone in the game.


I do love cloud.
It's easy to love any character in FFVII. It's the only game in which each and every character has an equally complex and well-depicted history. Cloud isn't "emo" or rootless in any way. Cloud's links with Sephiroth, Zack, and Jenova made him question his being; but even in controversy, he never stepped down from his position as a leader. If anything, his questions lead him further along in his quest.
The only time at which Cloud revealed any form of "emo" response was after Aerith's death, and his "emo" actions didn't carry on throughout the rest of the game.
 
Yes, I think he's overrated. It's mostly due to insane fangirls and fanboys, some who have only seen Advent Children. Sometimes if you say that you prefer another main character over him of a forum, there is a posibility that the entire community can go into a serious uproar.

I don't hate him though. It's not his fault that he has so many rabid fans.

amen cloud is only overrated due to the movie but if people were to play the game they would know that cloud was somewhat sorry.
 
I didnt necisarily hate him, for i think it is a sin to hate the main character....but i did have some good laughs at him, histerical laughs mind you. he needed a kind of help that no mother/girlfriend could give him.
 
you'd think these fanboys would try playing the game before touting Cloud as they do wouldn't ya, ya know to avoid being hypocrites and all...
 
No, I dont hate Cloud. He isnt my favourite lead male character, but I dont hate him. Personally I thought he was great in Advent Children. I dont mind if he pairs with Tifa, I would have liked him to be with Aeris (if she had lived!), but thats no reason to hate him.
 
finally people who has accually seen how cloud really is he ain't that great heck i bet you that before he got jonova put in him he couldn't even open a jar by himself. cloud lost himself and needed tifa(who by the way didn't even know half of the stuff) to help him find himself
 
Why why WHY Do you people insist upon saying that Cloud is "emo". The word "emo" is derived from the term "emotional" and the only time we ever see Cloud GET emotional is when Aerith dies. Cloud is by far from emo and he doesn't act emo. Cloud is suffering from all the past events in his life, even blaming himself for Aerith's death. I don't blame him for being the way he is. He's struggling, he'll always feel the grief for the loss of his loved ones, so if Cloud is a bit sad, then he's perfectly well allowed to. It doesn't mean he's emo. If that is one thing that gets on my nerves about Cloud is when people call him that.

edited to add: If you would read the official novels as to WHY Cloud is the way he is in Advent Children, you'd know. He was suffering from a non-curable disease, sure he was going to die, blamed himself for Aerith's death and doing the delivery service meant that Cloud was traveling his past all over again. This is taken from Case of Tifa after she discovered a receipt from Elmyra for Cloud to deliver flowers out to Aerith's grave.

Tifa lumped the receipt with the others and cleaned up as if nothing were wrong. But she was terribly shaken. How is circling the world delivering packages any different from him circling his past? The fact he couldn't protect Aerith tormented Cloud- that she knew. He was trying to get over that and live. But if he went back to the place where she had left him forever, wouldn't the grief and regret just tear fresh wounds in his heart?

 This was another part taken from Case of Tifa after Cloud finds Denzel outside of Aerith's church where he had been staying. Conversation between him and Tifa.


 "Did you fix the problem?"

"What problem?"

"Your problem."

"Oh..."

Cloud was clearly in deep thought.

"If you don't want to tell me, don't."

"I can't explain it well..." Cloud searched for the right words. "I didn't fix the problem. I don't think I'll ever fix the problem. I can't make somebody unlose their life."

So yeah, I think Cloud is perfectly well allowed to feel what he's feeling without people freaking out over him. Some fans make him out to be something he's not, some don't. BUt there's your truth right there.
 
yea cloud is not emo he is overrated i wish people will talk more about the underrated but cooler people
