Square-Enix nowadays come across as a poorly run company.
hmm... $1.49billion in revenue from April-December 2009 suggests that they are doing very well for a 'poorly run company'. What they're doing is what all good companies do; maximizing the profits i.e. milking as much as possible from a successful title (VII's spinoffs are the most notable examples). Besides it's mainly the fans that call for sequels/spinoffs, the company doesn't randomnly create them. A sequel for Dissidia has been talked about for ages within the fans, and SE are giving them what they want. Same with VII (do you recall the fans' anticipation for a PS3 remake?).
Final Fantasy XIII was poorly received, Final Fantasy XII was far from great, Final Fantasy X-2 was awful and Final Fantasy X was generally a hit or miss for fans.
Seeming as you've made up your mind that SE is to blame for everything that's wrong with the recent FF's (proven by the fact that you mentioned X and X-2 there; X-2 and X were made by Square, not SE), I'm not going to give any of my opinions as they will most likely be ignored. So I'll just tell you what the general public thought (i.e. the facts).
XIII was the first ever million selling PS3 title in Japan-only. XII got 40/40 from Famitsu plus won several awards from both Japanese and Western magazines. The general public believed that they were amazing and that's something we have to accept. If the majority think it's great, then it's great.
It sounds like you hate everything SE have done, and obviously you're entitled to that opinion. But they gave new lives to the old FF's on major consoles so those that were never able to play them can do so.
Apart from the FF series, Chrono Trigger and the Dragon Quest series (among others) were also brought to the west's attention. Surely that's doing more to promote JRPGs to the west than to take our money. Have they 'damaged' the reputation of these games? I don't think so, because many people didn't even know of them to give any sort of opinion.
Plus they've bothered to make new titles whilst doing these things. Blood of Bahamut is a classic Japanese action-RPG, while The World Ends With You is using Japan's main shopping town as the platform. The new editions of the main DQ spinoff, Dragon Quest Monsters, are still classic JRPGs.
Seriously though, what do you want them to do? Release a new FF that can only be appreciated by the hardcore fans? It won't be worth it business wise.
Plus you might want to rethink once DQVI becomes available.
{sorry for going off-topic, but if a Mod can do it, surely I can too}
...just to stay on-topic: Lightning is performing Zantestuken and Kain is performing Gungnir in the screenshots.
