We'll see about the plot. I'm not sure how much you guys followed the devlepment of Final Fantasy XII but there were a lot of problems. Matsuno was the guy who was behind its writing and development... but he was having serious issues due to the size and importance of the game. He really tried to get everything in there but kept having health issues arise stemming from too much stress. :/ This article does a good job of reviewing some of the problems that arose.

I knew, even before reading this article, just upon playing the game, that the story wasn't fully emphasized. Just by playing FFXII, you can tell that the directors didn't add everything that was intended to be in the game.
FFXII could have been spectacular, but the character interaction was too dull, and the storyline jumped around too hastefully...
From the looks of it, Matsuno was working backwards...he masterfully pieced together 80+ hours of sidequest options and Esper recruitments, but he failed to complete the plot summary.

One more thing.
Graphics has nothing to do with the greatness of a game, for those of you who are indicating how stoked you are for the matter...
FFXIII has great graphics, but...look at the protagonist in the trailers...she's laura croft with pink hair...

I think the PS3's capabilities has gotten to their heads...

I voted maybe, Already I see some things that I'm not to crazy about and I'll have to agree, the use of GF's morphing into machines are among the top on my list. Also, I'm hoping the they spend a little more time developing the story and characters.

As for the voice acting, I'm hoping it will be as well done in 13 as it was in 12. What I loved most about the voice acting in 12 was the well written dialog and the use of "true" English actors for voice overs. This truly complemented the theme IMO.

Lol... That and she does kinda remind me of Milla Jovovich from Resident Evil.

Squeee-potato! I loved that too! I think that was part of what really made it a good game for me. That's all Matsuno's style. We won't be seeing much more of that, I fear... but I love that his games always include that (Tactics, Vagrant Story). It's sweet. And I loved that they did the names like they did. The "observers" of the story didn't come with last names (Vaan, Penelo, Fran) but the main players really did (Basch fon Ronsenburg, Ffamran Mid Bunansa (Balthier), and Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca (Ashe)).

The character designs in FFXII were a little lacking somehow. I'm not sure how, but they just lacked "that spark" that Tetsuya Nomura puts into his characters. I like Nomura's designs best, and since he seems to be the one doing FFXIII's character designs, I think I'll enjoy FFXIII more.

And, of course, I'm curious as to how awesome the games on the PS3 actually are....

You, mirss lady, send me a pm and explain nomura to me. I'm drunk righ tnow so si Onw' understand. but I want to know all about SE and i'm confusec cause I don't knwo who he iss. he is th eone who designed tidus? tell me please. I want to undersatnd. Thank you and please.

my favorite is FF7, Why? go figured. i heard tha FF13 would be similar to ff7, how so? idk. i just heard it. i hope it wont be to similar. wut do u think?
one more thing, i looking forward to FFversus13, finaly a dark FF (beside dridge of ciberus

graphics have nothing to do with the greatness of a game? you're saying you like to watch at the graphics the NES has for example... i'm sorry that's just bullshit, in these days graphics are very important, if it doesn't look good it's boring, if it doesn't look intense, it's boring... thus resulting in crap

To quote Tim Buckley - "No, graphics aren't everything, but they do matter. You're lying to yourself if you say they don't." Graphics aren't what makes any game. Square-Enix cannot simply rely on the prettiness that the PS3 can pump out. They're going to have to supply good games, just like always. Graphics do matter but so does gameplay, story, character design, and all of that jazz.

To each his own opinion, but...I believe that games like Star Ocean 2, FFVI and SNES Zelda are way better than some of SE's latest productions.
Graphics is just a pretty front. FFXII has delicious graphics, but absolutely no romantisism to the plot. Heck, the plot wasn't even completely finished upon it's release...

You're telling me that graphics are what make the game great?
I understand that graphics are a popular sales pitch as of late, but it doesn't make the game.
FFVII has shite graphics, but the story line is amazing, even ten years later...

To answer your question, yes, I love to watch NES graphics.
And no, a game doesn't have to be action packed and full of high tech weapons and machines in order to be appealing.

And FFXIII...looks unnappealing so far...

Hmm, I voted for maybe. I really can't tell yet, you know. But from what I saw in the trailers, the girl looks cool...and that's as far as it goes. Will the game bomb? I sure hope not, for the sake of FF fans out there. If so, then oh well. Sucks for us, I guess.

But then again, we have to remember that everyone has their own opinions. I might find it dull, while you might find it awesome. That's how it goes.

Uh... don't you mean "I sure hope not"? If the game bombs, that means it fails. Not that it is the bomb... there.. yea. Typo? I know you're not blonde but yeesh. :P (Someone's gonna kick my butt for that comment. hehe)

And Rhea, I'd agree that the game doesn't look incredibly impressive yet... but I do like the futuristic look. I really do. It's why Midgar got me and why I geek out for things like Star Wars. Futuristic stuff is really awesome. And Final Fantasy XIII looks like its going to be incredibly futuristic. I can't wait. The only thing I've really seen so far that makes my stomach turn is the Seifer look alike... and hearing that Shiva turns into a motorcycle. I wish I could just unhear those words. I'd sacrifice a hundred bulls... or whatever... I just want to make the whole transformer thing disappear from my mind.

Maybe you're just young.

X had great graphics, but I didn't find the game all that great.

IV's graphics are terrible even for SNES standards, but I'd rather play that game than pretty much all recent games. And Chrono Trigger, SNES game that I would choose over ALL other game in existance.

I just hope video games aren't becoming like movies, pretty special effects with no substance.

But I have hope for this game and I do hope that it is good.

I think that graphics plays its own important role in a game.
It's pretty clear in this thread that someone find it important and someone don't, that's just the way it is

I'll have to admit one of my biggest fears that it may fail (as stated earlier by Rhea) is the fact that most of the big wigs have all parted ways or stepped down , but i think if there is any good news thus far to look forward to and keep in the back of our minds, is a lot of the underlings involved in VII, VIII, IX & X are all doing some part of the project for XIII.

Eh? Hah, no no no. You know the term back in the early 90's "That's da bomb!" meaning..."that's freakin' cool!"...that's what I meant! "Will the game be cool?" Hmm, I suppose they changed it around now? But anyway, I really do hope they do well on FFXIII. That's all we can really do now. Hope.

And what's wrong with the Seifer look-alike? He's blond, but so what? :P I love him. And Shiva turning into a motorcycle is just genius! Really. ^_^

Hahaha! No, when something is "the bomb", that's cool. When something bombs, that means it fails. Nounage good. Verbage bad. That is funny though. Looks like you moved to Ohio and about 10 years behind the curve. :P haha That's cool. That's all the "slang" i know and its about a decade out of date anyhow. I'm so white... :sad2:

And you really like the Shiva motorcycle thing? Honestly it worries me. I know the game is going to be fast paced and that kind of thing... but a motorcycle? Unless it's some cool futuristic thign that deviates from the summons again... like they're summonable beings that were genetically produced in a lab or some freakishness like that. That might be cool. Test tube summons.

I voted for maybe only because we don't really know that much yet. The way I see it is that they learn form every new FF what works and what doesn't and this game will be no different so there will be things that I like and things that I don't.

I think grapics are important along with gameplay, plot and music. All of them together makes the game what it is if something's off then it can still be a good game but everytime you play it you'll notice that that bit is off and wish that they had sorted it out before it's release.

As for Shiva turning in to a motocycle it definitely sounds like an intersting idea and I want to know more about. Every FF has something different about it that someone will either love or hate.

I remember going on some FF sites and people flipping out that they were getting rid of the random battles and how the game was going to be crap because of it. Personaly I think that no random battles was a great and should have been done before XII ^_^

Haha I forgot who said Shiva reminded them of transformers.
It's a cool idea, but...not my style...

Only thing that's bugging me out right now is the battle system which has *obviously* been altered.

The game seems good but I'm looking forward to Versus XIII more than XIII itself. For one, Tetsuya Nomura will be directing it and he's awesome. Also, Versus XIII is going to have a more KH style of battling. Complete real time and the guy you play as supposedly can teleport around and fly. So it seems pretty fun.

But Shiva turning into a motorcycle? what is the world coming to? First they take the "male" Hindu god Shiva and make it female then they make it turn into something that has a motor. Religion will never be the same again.

>.< Ok ok, I see. My bad, lol. -Edits posts- I'm living under a rock.

About the Shive motorcycle thing...the reason I'm up for it is because it'll be something totally different. I honestly like the idea. I suppose I'm the only one who likes the idea, eh? Oh well. We'll see how it goes. If it "bombs", then sue me, along with SE. :P
