Ever listen to video game music while on the computer?

Do you ever listen to video game music while you're on the computer, and if so, how often?

  • No, but I have thought about it.

One could play video game music while playing an online game, though. :monster: But yeah, I can understand that, but whether a song is from a video game or no, if it sounds really good, I can't and don't want to get that tune out of my head, when it is one of those ones I would rate 10 out of 10. :ryan:

The most listened to non-game soundtrack pieces would be songs from the movie Bolt. I like the Scooter Chase one, pretty cool chase action music.

I used to listen to the FFVII OST a great deal a while ago. I never got round to taking it from my old MP3 player on to my new iPod. I only really listened to it in little bits though, I never listened to the full four discs as a complete piece of work. I don't think OSTs work as albums, because the music is designed to complement/accentuate/embellish the feelings and themes going on in the game at the time. A lot of Final Fantasy themes don't quite work when you're listening to them when walking down the street.

Only sometimes. I normally listen to music in the charts. If I'm in the mood, I'll go right ahead and YouTube my favourite gaming music, but my iTunes normally gets played over it.

I recently got the FFVII soundtrack and that's between my songs on my playlist now, it's on shuffle, so once in a while it passes by one. :ryan:

I wouldn't say I listen to game music often, I mean... I only ever listen to the soundtrack of VII and find myself skipping alot :gasp: I like it during the game though.

Yes I do! Mainly from Katethegreat19, other final fantasy remixes, final fantasy originals, shadow hearts, tekken, and .Hack.

I have them all on my psp. They are so much fun to listen to. These music directors put so much thought into their music. It's very emotional, a great work of art.

Its mainly the Final Fantasy soundtracks. The others are Persona 3, 4 and Dragon Age Origins OST, its beautiful. I had loads of others before my laptop had to be fixed :/

I will occasionally listen to video game music (most commonly Final Fantasy OSTs, Orchestral albums, Piano Collections) when on the computer, but more commonly I'll listen to it when relaxing away from the computer in the living room etc. I seem to prefer it in that environment.

I am right now. Listening to RE2. I'm not sure why, but i like to listen to video game music on the comp more then band music and such. While on the other hand, if i'm walking or something, I'll listen to bands instead of VGM.

Some people don't seem to think the Final Fantasy XIII soundtrack is very good, but I think it is just very good, period. The Battle Theme is quite good, and I love that song that plays at The Sunleth Waterscape, probably favourite song in the whole game, tbh. :monster:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTCLgw6Zdqk < There it is, everybody enjoy it. ^_^ It is both catchy and pretty.

I always open a tab for youtube to listen to music. Often it is music from video games. Usually FFVI and VII music. Occasionally I have IV, IX, VIII and X music playing. And sometimes even AC music.

Why not? It's also music, after all, and anyway, I realized that I prefer instrumental music more than some love ballad or anything else that has vocals. Not that I thoroughly detest the genre, but they just do not appeal to me as much as instrumental music.

Having said that, I must add that one of the main reasons why I like Final Fantasy is, besides the story line, the main reason, because of the music. It is always able to somehow fit perfectly with the mood or atmosphere in the game, and that has won my respect over the years as I played more and more of the series.

I started paying more attention to game music after this series.

Since then, I went as far as to listen to music pieces from time to time, at least like, once per day?

Final Fantasy XIII is currently my latest craze though. I like the strings segment of the Battle Theme. :D

Occasionally i do, Ill listen to all types of music. Game music, Anime music, Japanese music, and normal music from all around the world.

And ill get music from games that friends show me, or ill go get the OST of a game i love, or ill hear a song in a commercial for a game, and then love it and find it, just to have it. And I get stuck on songs, when i find a new one, i find myself listening to it over and over for a few days, just getting it in there, like breaking it into my collection. I do that quite often with my game music.

And its not always one game, or one genre of games. Ill listen to a song from FFIX, then i could listen to a battle theme from Tales of Symphonia, then move on to a battle theme from Pokemon. Or ill move from Game songs to Anime songs. or vice versa. Music is music, and i love alot of music.

Yes - if I really need to put my head down and work on something uninterupted at work, I'll pull up a FF XII OST playlist on youtube and just let it roll.

I'm actually listening to a remix of a famous jingle, when you get invincibility in a Mario game (touch one of those Starman things as they bounce around across the stage. :ryan:), and it is the best remix of the catchy tune that I have heard. :awesome:

I do listen to game music, quite often as a matter of fact. I have a lot of game soundtracks on my computers. One of the reasons is that I've often found music more appealing to my ear from games then from movies or mainstream music. It kind of inspires me in a sense and as a struggling producer I do strive to listen to all kinds of genres and game music has some of the most intriguing tracks in my opinion. My youtube account has quite a few of my favorite game soundtracks, a lot of it is just from Castlevania and Final Fantasy.

Yeah, definitely!

Even when I'm doing homework or just googling something, I always have a YouTube tab open with music. 90% of the time, it's video game music. It tends to be from a Final Fantasy OST, such as FFX. I was just recently listening to "Wandering", actually. Sometimes I'll even listen to Uncharted's soundtrack.

It really depends on what kind of mood I'm in, but most of the time, I'm in the mood for instrumentals. Most of the instrumentals I like happen to be from video games.

Only if its a damn good sound-track, and even then, only specific sounds.

I find video game music is intended for very specific interactive moments - the music is made to intentionally connect you to what you are doing on screen, and immerse you more in the moment. Often when this music is taken out of the context of the game, the natural repetition of video game music becomes much more noticeable, and doesn't always sit well with repeated listening.

That said, I am very much enjoying the Final Fantasy XIII OST at the moment, and I regularly delve into the beautiful masterpiece that is the Okami OST. Other than that, I tend to just listen to the stuff in passing.
