Besides the RPGs made by Square Enix, which alternate RPG series is your favorite? Please vote in the poll, and post your reasoning for it.

Edit: Unfortunately I've forgotten a lot of great RPG series, so, feel free to use the 'Other' option when needed.

Golden Sun of course, sure it is only at two games right now, but it had quite a good story to it. plus the whole thing using djinn to do summons or spells was interesting. I just hope they make a third one.

My favorite series is Tales. I absolutely loved Tales of Phantasia, Destiny, Destiny 2 (Eternia), and Symphonia. I'm currently playing Abyss, tis awesome so far! :neomon: I believe my favorite aspect of the tales series is the battle system. I also love the detailed plots and characters in each game.

Also Tales series!! =P I've played all but Legendia (and from what i know, i didn't miss of anything good xD) and love it!!

But besides that one; almost every Tales (even "Radyant Mythology") is pretty good. The character were great, the story (at their time) were awesome and unpredictable and the (original) music is gorgeus! The battle system is more of based in action and hardly gets boring!

PD. "Density" sounds funny xD!!

Yeah... -__- Today I've been having issues with typing today...

Legendia was a waste of 50 bucks. :/ I couldn't return it either.

That reminds me, that actually i haven't played also Rebirth! ;w; I'm still waiting the PSP version! ToT

And the typing issues happens to everyone xD i still have a hard time when i change from the keyboard from home to the one here on the job xD

I've only played Breath of Fire on that list :wacky:

Altho I did REALLY like it, well BoF3 anyway, I just cant seem to do the next one -__-

I'd broaden my horizons and play more games but I already have too many to go through :gasp:

I love the Tales series. I've only played Phantasia, Symphonia, Legendia and Tales of The World. Phantasia and Symphonia were perfect in every way. Great characters, great gameplay. But Legendia...horrible...the only good thing I liked about it wuz Moses :wacky: And I'm sure the guy who did Kratos' voice did Will's voice. Anyway, Tales series ftw.

Oh! I did like BoF3, but I didn't get that far. I did watch my big bro play it. My favorite character is Rei :P This game is the best in the series.

*hates Legendia*

I could go on about how much legendia sucks at the same pace that VR could go on about Kingdom Hearts for aaaaaaaages.

Fuck sake, I hated every aspect of the game besides Moses and it's OST, which was very fucking small. :wacky:

tales of symphonia and/or tales of the abyss or gtfo. :(

Anywho, Tales of series, really. I love a game that has an engrossing battle system and replay value that isn't shit that actually redeems appeal in the game instead of making it boring as fuck.:neomon:

Agreed. Moses=cool. And the OST is great. But hate that one song..."Hey you there, causin' trouble, don't you know the rules of this town...?"...gawd I hate that...

what I really hated about it was that Grune never summoned even though all the hints were there that she could summon! I never found out on her quest cuz I sold the shit before I could. Horrible game...

Screw Square Enix. The best RPG series overall is Tales.

Legendia didn't do much for me, but all the others I've played have been amaaaaaazing. Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss are especially great.

Oh jeez, harder question than choosing between my mom and dad. :P

Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, Tales, Sui(Except 4 D:), Baten Kaitos and Breath of Fire are all great series' I've played.

I'll just be a rebel and go with the strategy game. Fire Emblem was(Not counting pokemon) my first RPG.

Just because I enjoyed Tales of Symphonia tremendously (storyline, gameplay, and characters), I voted for Tales, even though I've never played the other series yet. I'll have to check the other Tales game sometimes.

Fire Emblem is a close second. I loved the gameplay, but didn't really enjoy the storyline. =/ It was way too linear for me, but it's still one of the best games I've played out there.

The Legend of Dragoon is just memorable...to the point where I don't actually remember most of the details, but still love the game for some reason. :wacky:

Legend of Dragoon isn't a series...it's just one game...>_>

Anyways, of those listed, definitely Fire Emblem for SRPGs (Shining Force to a lesser extent)...and Breath of Fire for the standard RPGs...but idk if I've played enough of either series to really judge...I've only played the two FEs that were released in NA on GBA and I've only played 1~3 of the BoF series...BoF3 rulz!

As for other Square-Enix alternate RPG series...I'd include...

Phantasy Star - I'm not including those horrible MMOs...The first was beaten out by the first FF by only a few days...The four series set of Sega games are great. Awesome oldschool sci-fi based RPG series. If you managed to get through those horrible first person dungeons in the first PS game, I bow to you.

MegaMan Battle Network - They're fun, unique gameplay w/sort of corny, cheesy anime storylines that I still end up enjoying. There's a lot of them (I haven't finished 5 yet or played 6 yet) and only 3 bugged me at all and that was just some minor level layout issues.

Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre - I am basing this solely on The Knight of Lodis on GBA. It's a great game and reminds me of another great SPRG series...

Langrisser - I am basing THIS solely on Langrisser 2/Der Langrisser. It begins a lot like Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis in that you ask a lot of questions in order to calculate certain character values & such...but it plays more like a Shining Force than a FFTactics on the battle field...very cool games.

Advance Wars - Good but basically a modern setting FE...Quite difficult at times. Most battles I end up having to play through at least once to figure out what I'm supposed to do.

Mario RPG - Though the first one was by Ninny & Square, the others were w/o Square and Superstar Saga & Partners In Time are both solid games.

Pokémon - Speaking of Ninny...The games are good...though similarly to the Megaman Battle Network games, if you've played one you know how to play them all basically...there's very little change between the games in the series. The game can really require a strict regiment of leveling though...and the number of "playable characters" is not for the faint of heart...>_>

I guess the only other real series I played was .hack//G.U. from Bandai-Namco.

A three volume series that could've been confined to one release, but it was just a marketing ploy to make money, and since I bought all three games, it works

I did enjoy playing it, so I can't really complain.

I'm also working on and off on XenoSaga, also a 3 game series.

And I guess I should include Devil May Cry as well since I played the first three games. Probably the goriest game I can play without feeling squeamish, and I know there's some messier stuff out there >_<

Other non Square-Enix games I have but own only one of the series:

Shining Force Neo

Persona 3:FES

Suikoden IV and Tactics

But, the majority of my games ARE Square-Enix, and Final Fantasy series is the largest series I own (FFI to FFXII except III and XI, and including Tactics, FFX-2 and DoC), and then the Kingdom Hearts series is next with only 3 games.

Uh...is Devil May Cry a RPG now??

Also, I don't know how much Shining Force Neo fits in to the rest of the SF series...though technically the whole thing is the Shining series, it's only that besides Neo the SF ones were always SRPGs...*shrugs*

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, but my vote went to BoF cause Rei & Teepo will always share a soft spot in my gaming heart! :'( *sniff*

Oh, crap, you're right. D= I never played the game, as you can see, but I guess I somehow assumed it was a series.

My vote was for Shin Megami Tensei, Nocturne and Persona are great series. Digital Devil Saga wasn't too bad, either.

Fire Emblem is a close second. That game is a life-saver on long trips.

Ah, I'm not sure what to classify Devil May Cry as.

DMC1 and 2 was pretty much just action, but DMC3 felt kind of like an Action-RPG, since there was a storyline and such, but I really don't know >__<

- .hack GU (gameplay was getting repetitive and boring but it was the awesome story that kept me going for the 3 games of the series)
- Persona 3 (Everything was perfect on this one! Story, gameplay, music, etc)
- Disgaea 2 (Another with a excellent story! Altough it's isometric, the gameplay and character build system were pure genious!)
