[FF V] why does everyone hate this game?

I enjoyed the game. I found it to be interesting- it had plenty of job classes. Albeit it took forever to perfect your characters(just like any Final Fantasy) i liked it a good bit. I think people don't appreciate it as much as other installments because it's more sophisticated and it's time consuming to complete even a battle.

Because half the Final Fantasy fans that started post-VII can't appreciate a JRPG if it doesn't have some ridiculously over-dramatic and pretentious plot.

I don't hate the game but it is a bit more difficult then the rest to get the 100%. They could of had enemies that gave more Exp and AP. Instead the most you can get in the whole game is 5000exp and until you get to the last dungeon 5 AP. So its hard to get to level 99 and all jobs mastered. I just settled with all jobs mastered and level 56.

I played the game not to long ago and since they was things that took a lot of time to do, I liked it. Its also not on my bottom of favs but its not on the top either.

I'd like to be able to tell you off for generalising, but I'm afraid this might be the case, at least for those who stated after FFVII.

Trying to think back to when this game was first released though, it was hot on the tail of FFIV, which was massive, and had an amazing storyline, but little in the way of gameplay. FFV was like FFIII, with the emphasis more on strategy, so I reckon these earlier FF games were quite polarizing. FFVI was probably the first game in the series to successfully combine a great story, awesome characters and a great gameplay/character development system.

I'd like to be wrong too, but the more I see of the fanbase, the more I'm convinced this is the case. Which is also depressing because series like Dragon Quest don't get the attention they deserve either.

Actually, I'd have to say FFV this is one of my favorite FF games, easily better than any of the ones before it IMO. It was really fun, it makes me angry that everyone seems to overlook it. >_>

FFV is actually my least favorite Final Fantasy. As much as I adore Faris (>=D), I find it to be a bit lacking. I'm not sure what it is... perhaps it's the fact that not many of the characters appealed to me, and I wasn't interested in the story at all.

Yep... that would do it. xD

FFV is actually one of my top FF games I wanna play next, now I'm hearing that people don't like it? I don't really see how the characters aren't very interesting, from what I've seen, they look interesting especially with emotions. Not to mention that
Galuf dies, which is almost as sad as Aerith, right?
Well, all I know is FFV has kick ass music and the BEST battle theme of any FF in my opinion.

The games character development and storyline was a little bland but I still loved it. Gilgamesh made me smile. V had the best Gilgamesh ever.
I actually rate FFV on my top 3 Final Fantasy's. I can't say it has the best replay value out of the others but I definitely don't mind picking it up here and there. ^_^

It simply became my most favorite FF game.
There are FFs with better characters and plot, but the jobs system was just perfect for me. Long have I waited (since playing FFIII) to have such a system. And my wish came true! It is the first game in which there is a point to MASTER a job.
I always hate that I MASTER a job and get nothing in return.
The final boss was awesome as well. He is my favorite and probably one of very few normal final bosses.

So the only reasons I see to hate it are: Characters and Plot.
Even though IMO even those two aspects of the game are great anyway.

I've never really got far with this game, although I really enjoyed it. I need to start it again to get a feel for it again.

I dont hate final fantasy V that much. Its actually nice but I found it pretty hard to get through it. Im still stuck at the fire hand in the Game boy advance version. I dont think ill finish FF V advance ever. Its a total fucking waste of my time. -_-

Yeah is one of those people who don't dislike this game and actually enjoy playing through the storyline and enjoys leveling up with the Final Fantasy Job system ability..

FFV's story might not be the best, but the job system is definitely a winner. It doesn't get old and always fun to try out different combination of jobs. And of course, there's Gilgamesh, that's a pretty strong reason itself.
V is the second FF game I've ever played, and I didn't get to finish it the first time around. It was very hard for someone who have only finished FFVIII.

Who hates V? Because V is a really, really, really great game! Comes second to my list ^^

I do :monster:

One long head ache from start to finish. I'm not a great magic user and all the jobs were just painful. My party always seemed to be dominated by a mage of somesort when all I wanted to do was thwack people on the head with a big sword

I just found it painful. And boring. I didn't really rate the story all tha tmuch either

I just hated this game, never again ]:

I have the PS1 remake that came with 6 so it took me a while to pick up, and FINISH 5.
As said by many, it does lack story/character, but I don't think Square was really going for that. Much like games with mute characters (Legend of Zelda, Chrono Trigger & Cross) I think Square wanted more of a leveling up game or a game that was played gor combat style, rather than a story to connect with. I dunno, I'm not Square :P

The music, job system/game play was great! and graphics, for the time, were awesome as well. I think 5 has some of the best vocal collections music wise.

I'm currently playing it again, and like when I first played it I find it hard to get into, which is one of it's flaws. You really have to sit down and say "I want to play this game. I want to finish this game!" and stick to it. I'd say once you get to level 15 or so, then you really start to get into it :)

I loved the game. I think it was the first FF's I really got into, if it wasn't then it wasn't long after I got my own copy of 10 and a borrowed one of 7.

I only had it on a rom when I first played it as it was overpriced everywhere for the GBA, if I ever found it - 4/6 were all I could ever find. I got quite far into it, and I stupidly did what I usually do on some rpgs... restart. If I love a game too much then I fly through it, my levels and skills always suffer. I had been struggling for a while, abusing the save states in the emulator.

I think what killed it for me is that I spent way way too long trying to level up the jobs I wanted, too early in the game. When I finally did get a copy of the GBA version, I lost my save halfway through it (birthday pressie and it was a pirated copy, doh). I've restarted this game so many times now it's become a chore to get to where I was in the first place. My only copies now are the PS1 version I found on ebay and the rom. The PS1 version does not look good on the huge TV I do have, I'm no graphics ho, the huge pixely text, the colours gave me a headache after 20min and I had to keep it on mute. I think my only option is the rom again :/

Too long, short version: My probs with the game is that I've had to start it so many times, and I insist on getting my jobs levelled up way too often. I enjoyed the game more when I was struggling with low level characters and not worrying too much about job levels.

The game's pretty good. I enjoyed the story, I liked all the main characters, the job system is a huge improvement on 3's (I really, really can't stand DS-FF3's job system), the GBA's music was pretty good (my ps1 one is atrocious tho, it reminds me of my snes or nes emulator with it's ff1,2 & 3 roms). If I hadn't of restarted it and just trained where I was I'd of probably finished it long ago and it would of been in my Favourites list.

I will play it again, after 6 it's on my list of FF games to complete (6 I did the same thing with, but I was right before the final dungeon in that game, early 30's 0_0)
