[FF V] why does everyone hate this game?

If you look on general discussion i said it was one of my favourites. I think the reason why people hate it so much is that they havn't played it. I know that for a fact that FFV is one of the least played games in the series.

Final Fantasy V is a very good game. I couldn't put it down, till the damn difficult boss in the last place. It's been years, I haven't played it in so long, it was one of my favorites

I for one do not hate this game! part of FF 4-6, my favorites!
Gameplay: Very Good
Storyline: Guess this is their downside. The beginning of the story kind of disappointed me.
Characters: Not so good either. (Except for Faris and Galuf, they have good story made for theme, though I'm still surprised how ALL the pirates thought she was a guy, though I read on wiki that some pirates doubted)

The first time I played this game I rushed it a bit and probably got to half way or so. I wasn't enjoying it as much as IV and it was getting complicated so I gave up. I've started playing it again from the beginning recently, and I have to say it I'm enjoying it much more now. The job system seems annoying at first, but I really like it now. It's a game that rewards effort. I'd definitely recommend it. There are better titles in the series, but this is a fantastic game in its own right.

I thought it was a decent FF, the character class was fun, but I've only played "Advance" version.

It's been years like all the other FF's I've played, but I remember I thought it was pretty damn good , very fun to play and the music was good too.

I dont hate it, but I dont care for it too much either. The only character I liked was Faris, the rest were boring. Then there was the story, that seemed a little dull. Then at the very end, ExDeath is a very uninteresting villian, even his name makes me yawn. The job system was nice, but i dont play FF for job systems, i play them for the characters and story. The soundtrack was okay tho, but it ranks at the bottom of the list along with FF I, II, III, VIII, and XI.

best game ever, if you dont like it i dont care, this is a true FF not like later games, the story is good, those dont like it because they put FF 4 in a pedestal, i played 4 and it bored me compared to 5 (Finished 4 still).

I certainly do not hate the game. In fact I think the job system and gameplay is beyond amazing. It's the storyline and the characters that kind of turned me off. It just didn't draw me in at all. It's redeeming quality is definitely the gameplay....it kept me going and it was a really fun game to play.

I just replayed this a month ago and don't hate it at all! The job system/customization options keep each playthrough fresh and exciting. There's plenty of humor too!

As you can see I love Faris and this game though the story could have been better and the character (Don't get me wrong) Were a lot like the blank slates in FF1 and FF3 just given slight personalities and a gender. The job system rocked though

I very much enjoyed this title. I loved how simple it was, and it got all the more interesting when you travelled to that other world where Ex-Death ruled. And Gilgamesh was awesome... And it has my favourite ever piece of music from FF... Battle at the Big Bridge! :domo:

They never made a western version on the SNES, only the one that came out way later on the GBA.
As far as I know, anyway. That's probably why it isn't replayed so much, because unless you have an emulator or a Gameboy, you're not playing it.
I like FFV a lot. When they make a new version, I'll be sure to play the hell out of it lol.

To be accurate they made one on the PS1 along with... FFVI I think. Getting back on topic..

But yes FFV isn't really that "hated" more than it just didn't get released when it did in Japan, so think about it. We had FF VI, VII and I even think VIII before V finally came out to the rest of the world, and FFV never really got advertized when it did come out. That made few people play it. That's probably why it seems to make it "hated."

More like hated is ignored. My theory is that it was looked down because it wasnt FF4-2. Considering FFV were more towards a gameplay focus rather than story i think it would gad been look better if it was released before FF4. Galuf my favorite character in the series.

I am one of the few peeps here that quite enjoy the characters. Nobody mentioned how naughty Bartz was :D. Galuf and Faris also kick ass. The least memorable character out there is Lenna. I like the simplicity of the plot. Sometimes, being simple is better. Easy to understand and not too complicated.

Gameplay wise, it was fun to grind. The difficulty was quite enjoyable and rewarding at the same time. Learning skills are also part of the fun.

This is actually my favorite FF. Sure, it's a bit generic, but it focuses more on the writing of the game. I played the original SNES version with the translator, and it was charming and funny!

The music is still very good in my opinion, and fits certain scenes well.

The gameplay, though, is fantastic. The job system in this game is one of the most non-linear aspects of the FF series, along with Materia. There are LIMITLESS possibilities with the jobs. For example, you could have a ninja with rapid fire, a mime with dualcast, black, and time magic (for comet and meteor), a freelancer with.....well....ANYTHING, and much more.

So honestly, just like every other game in the series except for XIV, this game should not be skipped. :)

Final Fantasy V has some of the meatiest gameplay in my opinion! I've spent hours of well enjoyed game play building up my friends into elite combinations of different classes. The story line was actually pretty cool, I think it was focused mostly on Galuf and Lenna. There was a lot of grinding, but it was really fun collecting all the items and seeing the characters actually use them in battle. The battle time was also pretty fast, which is definitely a flaw in some of the other games.
One of my favorites this one is to me for sure.
