Seriously. This place gives me the creep. I mean, there is absolutely no one. We're in some business district, its daylight, but its completely deserted. It wouldn't be surprising if something rushed us from an alleyway or something.
Ryu had a good point. What kind of office building was deserted in the middle of a workday? As Azzie descended the stairs with him and Yumi, she started to feel a bit nervous; she found herself intermittently glancing back up the stairwell behind them to make sure they weren't being followed, or that some strange person or creature wasn't clinging to the ceiling waiting for them to let their guard down. Her mind raced as she sought to remember some of the best moves she'd learned in fencing class, but it was no use unless she could actually try them out, and test her muscle memory. And now was not the time.
When they finally arrived at the ground floor and stepped outside onto the main street, she wasn't sure whether to be relieved or more anxious. They were now in a huge, unprotected, open space, where the road went on forever in either direction and a forest of unfamiliar buildings towered over them. Azzie put a hand up to shield her eyes from the sun as she gazed up at some of them, finding no signs or other helpful pieces of information on any of them. She lowered her eyes again as Ryu spoke up.
Right. Which way was the scream again?
Azzie tried to remember the direction it had come from; she thought it had been from the right as she was facing the window, but she wasn't sure; plus, they might have gotten a bit turned around going around in circles in the stairwell. She raised an eyebrow, and pointed hesitantly in the most likely direction. "I think it was that way," she mused, "though I'm not positive." She peered through the buildings to try to see what was in that direction, but the city was so haphazardly cluttered that it was hard to tell. "Shall we investigate?"
