FFXII: Love It or Hate It?

haha i set the game while i was too low of lvl going against Yiazmet and left the game for a whole week and it beat Yiazmet by itself

it was fun but it really did need work on the battle system

What:cactaur: you really did that?

Then i didnt get to understand so well the battle system.

I was satisfied by 12 battle system, only in boss battles the system was cheap.

I wonder, the mmorpgs plays like FF12?.

sorta.... ive only watched somebody play them and im kinda interested but i dont wanna pay every month

I liked the game alot. The story wasnt perfect in my opinion but i loved the gameplay & sidequests (especially the hunts).

I think...

ITS THE BEST FF GAME EVER!

Mod Edit:
Final Fantasy
Hi, I know that you have posted quite a lengthy post in one other thread. You have pretty much expressed that this is your favourite FF. Therefore, there is really no need to post in every FFXII thread if you are just going to say something similar. It is still alright if you elaborate your point in each thread more, but most of them are short posts which can be considered as spam in this forum. Please take note of that. =)

This was the weakest of the final fantasy games in my opinion, however, it was a good game, but not Great

Pros:
-First Ever Black Female in FF History with Fran
-You could equip and unequip during Battle
-Anyone could equip and use anything
-Gambit system
-Perhaps the easiest final battles ever

Cons:
-First Full FF game in which you could not change at least the main character's name which took alot by surprise
-Worst and most bland Villain ever in Vayne
-Perhaps the worst playable character in FF in Balthier, Basch was not much better
-Lame bland villain organization in the Judges
-Perhaps the easiest final battles ever (and least challenging for final boss)

I actually haven't played this one in a while :hmmm: but from what I remember of it, it wasn't all that good. I didn't feel like it lived up to it's predecessors. I remember the big hype of this game, but I actually ended up in disappointed. :okay: I really didn't like the Gambit's :gasp: which I've seen people like about the game--just not really my style. I HATED Vaan. he was an annoying prick :argh: I didn't like really any of the characters except Balthier. :hmmm: I guess it was just an okay game, but compared to all the other FF's i've played, it really was a let down. I really had difficult connecting with the story and characters. The graphics were really breath taking though, I do give it that. While I didn't like the Gambit system, I liked the fighting style. You can say, I'm in between with this game :wacky:

Loved it =D. 100% the game and went through the tiresome battle of Yiazmat in one go, without realising you can leave and save.... Mind you i died a few times whilst a few hours into the fight..... haha.

Personally, it weas a good game with different ideas, however it's great ideas were overshadowed by substance.

As mikey-bosom said, you cna hardly connect with the characters, but the idea was to make a character irrelevant to the story be relevant. And that wasn't bad, but i really wanted to connect to Vaan in a personal level. I sometimes invent my own background story just to bare with the lack of it. this could've gone in a very Cloud-like manner considering how uninvolved Vaan was.

the gameplay wasn't my most favorite, but it had me going and it allowed me to do strategies and use tactic aswell. the overall look of the gameplay probably could've been better, but at the time i thought it was the best they could do.

You know, it's funny...the first time I played Final Fantasy XII I gave up only a couple hours in because I thought it was too complicated and boring. But then I tried it again earlier this year and fell in love with it, and even now I go back to replay certain parts sometimes just to enjoy the battle system for a brief while. The game's world was just so fantastic--it covered everything fantasy games stand for in its environments and locales, and for PS2 graphics, everything looks pretty darn beautiful. The music was not the best I've ever heard in a FF game, but it was more than just good enough. While we're on sound, I have to mention that the speech was simply fantastic. The old English was delightful to listen to and every actor did a good job with their part. And the combat system...oh boy, that combat system! It's like a mashup of the best of both PS1 and PS3 FF systems. The story could have affected the game a bit more, but I hardly noticed because I was enjoying the battle system so much. Vaan should not have been the lead character, but that's not really a problem because the game is so open that you can just replace him with Ashe in all but a few minor situations, and then you have a character you can connect with because the story really revolves around her. (Rabbit trail: Honestly I don't know why Ashe isn't more popular...she's every bit as well designed as Lightning, and actually has a similar personality, just better refined and mannered.) Gil was also a bit too hard to come by...in replays, since I'm just going for fun, I use a cheat that increases the rate of gil acquisition, and the game feels just like the classics in terms of difficulty, which is nice.

All in all, if there was a problem with this game, there was some way to fix it, but for the most part it was just one of the most solid FF experiences I've ever had, and I think it really is the game for SE to beat in terms of quality, not XIII. 1,000% a 'Love it' on this poll.

Love it. Been playing it off and on since 2006, and have refused to end it because I'm enjoying it so damn much. I've never put nearly as many game hours into a FF as I have this, and I've done most of the sidequests, which is unusual for me with a FF game. It's my third favorite in the series so far, behind part 7 and part 6.

Just replayed XII after only previously playing it once. I have to say this time I enjoyed it a lot more. I still prefer the old school turn based/active time based system because I'm a nostalgic fiend, but I didn't hate the whole 'complete open world' theme this time and I enjoyed some of the story elements more. Though it still felt like the game started off well character wise, then just declined.

I love everything about ff12 except the story and characters. That is really sad because I feel as if the game could have toppled others in the series had it been more interesting. The battle system, traversing, world map, towns, everything was great except the above mentioned.

I wasn't too much a fan of the battle system for XII. Once you got used to the Gambit system, all you had to do was sit back and watch your characters hammer the hell out of your enemies. It didn't provide much of a challenge at all. There were some elements for this game that did make it a truly enjoyable experience to play through.

I loved how immense the world was. I spent hours just losing myself in places like Giruvegan, Phon Coast, Salikawood, The Necrohol of Nabudis... The environments were fantastic and, coupled with all the monster hunting, it provided so much fun.

On the other hand, I kinda disliked the story, and wasn't very fond of the characters. But regardless of that, I would happily play through this game again.

I voted "love it" on the poll, but I really just "like" it. The story in this game is almost nowhere to be found, and that's really the big downfall. They spent too much story focusing on the nethicite. The opening cutscene was easily the best part of the game IMO.

However the game really had it's bright points, such as the voice actors. The voice actors were pretty good honestly, they matched the character well.

The graphics were amazing for PS2. It helped bring the very minimal story to life.

Then, theres the battle system. Holy Gilgamesh! That battle system had me hooked from the start. I just loved every bit of it. I really liked the chaining idea, the gambits were fun to play around with, and just going around killing even the lowest level monsters was fun.

So overall yes it was a great FF game battle wise, but when it came to story, there was none.

Wow... I am dumbstruck by how many people love this game. How can you even LIKE it, let alone love it? This is, like, THE worst game I have ever played in my entire life!!! Seriously...

I am dumbstruck by the people who hate this game. How can you even DISLIKE, let alone hate it? This is like, oh never mind.

I'm sorry, but it's hard to take these sort of statements seriously. It's such a superlative to say this is the worst game you've ever played. As much as I like to rag on FFXIII as rubbish, I can still confidently say that I have played far, far worse - legitimately superlatively worse things. You really haven't played much, I would wager, because otherwise I can't fathom what heinous sin FFXII has done, or features, to warrant it being the worst thing you've played in your life and just leave it at that. I'm actually rather curious as to what FFXII has done that is so bad.

EDIT: I almost thought your signature was part of the post there. :ahmed:

I really don't think these sort of polls are any good. It's no good only restricting it to two options when most people will probably be somewhere in between the opposite spectra of love and hate. There are greyer areas. Heck, even I, with how willing I am to defend FFXII (so I can't be called one of those people who think Final Fantasy should return to the good ol' days of FFVII-X), wouldn't say I love the game. I certainly liked the game, but there're very, very few things out there I can confidently say I love.

Still hoping for a FFXII HD remaster here.

Well, I see what you're saying, and I normally don't write comments like that, but I was pretty pissed off when I wrote that so my emotion took control of my mind. And when I wrote that about the worst game, I meant worst Final Fantasy game. Oh god, there are way worse crap out there. But the reason I detest Final Fantasy so strongly is because the got rid of the old battle style. I hate, with a strong passion, pretty much any live action combat styles. I realize that the ATB gauge is considered a Live action, but at least you could slow it down or speed it up. That made it so you can speed right through random battles, and take your time against tough bosses. But also, I want to be in full control of all of my party, not just "leader". I don't even like it when my friends try to play ff5 with me because I can't be in control of what the character does, so, I DEFININTLY hate it when a gambit based computer does it for me. I'm that guy who chose the red mage over the black mage because I want to enjoy the game play, I don't care which character has more strong damage magic, I still want to be able to enjoy my playing experience. But also the story, to be honest, if you were to take the direct script of ff12's story and gave it to a high school teacher she would fail you faster than Ultimecia killed my level 8 Zell. Through out the game it just felt like they took all the nice features from the past ff games and found a way to ruin it. Limit breaks is something I loved in ff7-10, ff12 took it and used it as a toilet, leaving some god awful, shit infested "quickenings". And License, dude, I hate having to buy my spells enough as it is, now you're telling me that I have not only have to farm experience and money, now I have to fucking gather LP to get be able to use it??? I understand why. They didn't want someone to be able to become super strong and be able to use curaja (I think I spelled that right). Oh, and another thing, Curaja??? Really? Argh, getting pissed again. Okay anyway, they didn't want to allow you to do what you could do in ff2. But, they did a great job of giving people the ability to make any character what they want in ff8 and it was still a great success, hell, I love the fact that I could get 3000 health in the first hour of the game. But no, they tried to take the small, but influential restrictions that the gf's created and over powered it... Speaking of gf's... (takes a deep breath) How dare they take the traditional eideons created in ff4 that have been reused ever since and rape them the way they did. Titan, Shiva, Bahumet, Ifrit, all replaced by wannabes called espers. They took the summon and nerfed the hell out of it, and made it fight long side you??? So what, they just took ff10 summon mechanics and nerfed it, and then combined it with the materia mechaniced summons of ff7 and threw it in a pot, and then said "You know what, the esper is still helpful, nerf it some more." Do you see a pattern? Sakaguchi left so they tried to take all of the successful and loved mechanics of past ff games and threw them in to one game. But failed miserable at it. I'm suprised they didn't try to throw ff8's junction feature in their. Guess that is where they draw the line. If you read all this and still can enjoy this game, then I envy you bro. Oh, and one last thing, Who the actual fuck thought the summon mechanics in ff13 were a good idea?????????? Damnit Square Enix, come on!

I detest Final Fantasy so strongly
Meant to say Final Fantasy 12. Also, good to hear that you were victim to my signature xD

Same here. I mean, I can understand not loving it, I can understand not liking it, I can understand even if they didnt like it. But Hate? I think thats best reserved for a fame that showed much more promise and overall disapointing.

But then again, I noticed ff 12 haters never even heard of the worser RPGs. Personally I like it and love it as an underdog. Similar to ff5. But better than ff5.

You know, you don't have to use the gambit system. You can control your whole party manually if you want. You chose to use the gambit system when it was optional. If you were forced to use it you'd have a point, but you're not. I think the game play in XII is one of the best in any FF game. You mention using red mages etc, but in XII you can choose to create a red mage, or a black mage, or a tank, or anything you want really. It gives you a lot of freedom over what direction you want to take your characters in.

You speak about experience and LP as if they're different things. You gather LP at the same time as experience, it's essentially the same thing, just the difference is that LP you can use yourself to shape your characters, and experience is used automatically to up your characters stats in a generic way. It reminds me of FFX where you also gained experience that you could chose to spend in different ways. The buying of magic is just to make things that bit more challenging, it means you have to consider what you're buying, what you need for your characters, you can't just get everything for everyone as soon as it's ready, you have to consider and strategise where you go with your characters. I am one of those gamers that really likes being able to have control over my character growth though. I can understand how some gamers who prefer their characters to grow automatically (like in IX or VII) might not like this system the way I do.

All the limit breaks are different. I honestly don't think quickenings are that bad, they do a lot of damage, and you have the choice to use them or not. Unlike in IX when you were forced into Trance whenever the bar filled up – that was a wasted opportunity and imo the worst way they've handled limit breaks.

I don't know what you mean about taking the influence GFs had in VIII. I don't see many similarities between VIII and XII, and nothing at all like GFs. So you'll need to run that part by me again because I don't get it at all...

Well you know, I do agree that the summons in XII weren't that great, I barely used them, but they weren't that bad either. I never used summons in IX either because I found them really weak. I thought the idea of having your summon fighting beside you was a good idea, but it didn't work that way in practice. Still, I don't think that makes it the worst summoning system ever. I really enjoyed collecting them regardless of whether I used them or not. This time you liken it to VII – I understand X (where you controlled the summons - but FFVII? What does the summoning system in XII have to do with the summoning system in VII? I feel like they liked the summoning system in X, and they tried to improve on it, and it didn't work so well, but it's definitely not that bad.

I totally disagree that they took previous game mechanics from older games and ruined them. I think that's one thing XII really can't be blame for. If anything, this game tried too much new ideas, and a lot of FF fans didn't like that changes to much loved features of the previous games.
