fight for a future

Stephen pulled down his keyboard and began typing rapidly, muttering to himself as he went "with the excessive amounts of energy being output from the Strike Freedom's reactor, i will be able to increase the output of my energy weapon's, with the way that the phase shift armour of the new suits is going, if i increase the output by 50 percent then i should be able to pierce the skin of these things" as Stephen finished his sentance, he pulled the trigger of his beam cannon once again, the beam was obviously more powerful, and it cut through the armour like a hot knife through butter. "Got cha" Stephen announced smiling.

"Riina, stick to your ballistics, Zeria, use your Lancers" Stephen announced as he disconnected his two beam rifles and fired at the two other suits, removing the right arm of the Green one, and the left leg of the Red one.

"Roger" Riina said, focusing her fire on the Raflesia. Because she was attacking above and away from the tentacles, she had somewhat of a free reign. Firing her pistols at the center of the target, Riina pierced through the armor of the enemy suit and damage vital systems. Le Cygne cleared out of the area before the suit exploded, the first kill against ZAFT prototypes.

as riina took down the Flower like suit, Stephen focussed his fire on the Red behamoth, it stood at least 5 meters taller than the Freedom, and it was alot larger width wise. the power house, although missing a leg, was Launching missile after missile at the Freedom, but the DRAGOON spikes were taking them out with great ease.

as the Freedom backed off slightly, the red suit fired another volley of rockets, the DRAGOON spikes did their job and cleared the missiles out, while the Freedom connected it's two beamRifles and pointed the beam cannon at the Torso of the Red suit, the DRAGOON spikes unleashed a volley blocking anymovement, as the beam cannon fired through the torso of the suit, Causing it to explode.

Zeria broke out in a grin.

"So they want to play around with phase shift armor, huh? Well, two can play at that game"

She laughed, turning off the mirage calloid system as she simultaneously brought in her own phase shift armor.

"I love the Blitz...I bet those pilots are wondering where the hell I just came from"

She drew her 3 lancer darts into their spear, going straight for the green ZAFT suit. She smirked at the advantage she had with the green suit missing an arm from Stephen's beam cannon blast.

"This'll be fun!"

She hammered away on the suit as it blocked her strikes, before she got angry, blasted away from the suit, and dismantled the lancer spear.

"Last take this pathetic thing out with one shot!"

She loaded the lancer darts back into their holding spot, then fired one straight into the head of the green ZAFT suit, watching as the head exploded and started blowing apart other parts of the suit...

As Stephen watched the final Z.A.F.T suit fall, he looked around at the transport ship, that was entering the atmosphere, "our mission is completed, Hunters return to the Archangel" Stephen announced as he spun around in the Freedom, he saw three new thermal ID's on his radar "fuck more of them" he announced, these were comming from earth. the Freedom blasted forward and drew it's two Lancerta beam sabers "Tribal, Stop" the CIC Officer announced "their with us" she then added.

"what, who are they" Stephen thought to himself before hearing Arika's voice boomthrough his com "hell yea, we got up-grades baby" his voice was full of childish joy. as the three suits grew closer, he noticed they were upgraded versions of the Duel, Buster and Strike.

Arika's voice came over the Com again "Say hello the the Blu Duel, the Verde Buster and the Strike Noir." this caused Stephen to smile "we have a return to ship order, Arika, Iarka, Keiko, stop screwing around" he announced as he piloted the Freedom down the Catapault and into it's 'slot in the hangar bay"

When Riina saw the Eternal pilots flying around in their new suit, leading Stephen to tell them to stop showing off. Riina thought to herself (and within hearing of Inglesia and Fabiola) "Mary would of thought ironic of Stephen to say that."

"Maybe he's feeling bad for killing his friend and ally." Fabiola said

"Maybe."

Le Cygne started to fly back to the Archangel, piloting it down the catapult and into the hanger bay in it's usual spot.

As Stephen passed through the Airlock/changing room, he removed his helmit and opened the top of his suit to give amore casual look to his attire, he then made his way towards his room.

Upon entering his room, Stephen floated over to hisbed and lay down, he was asleep before his head hit the pillow, he was tired as he had been in constant combat for the past week or so, and needed some rest.

Keiko heard Stephens voice over his com say "we have a return to ship order, Arika, Iarka, Keiko, stop screwing around"

"I'm just testing out the new upgrades, chillout man" Keiko spoke over his com as he piloted his newly upgraded suit down the catapult and into the hangar of the Archangel in his usual spot.

Once Keiko was safely inside he removed his helmet and space suit and quietly moved to his room, once he reached his room he walked into his room and sat down for a few minutes thinking about how he had gotten to this point, and about his fathers death at the hands of the Z.A.F.T. Keiko broke down in tears and started hitting himself as he began another episode of his sorrow. For he blamed himself for his fathers death, for if he hadn't of been using his dads suit he wouldnt have caused his fathers death.

"Why did I do it?" Keiko whimpered through gritted teeth.

After ten long minutes of sobbing, Keiko took off his shoes and socks and lay on top of his bed, thinking about the events again but this time his eyes where filled with anger.

OOC: Right. I'm back. I'll take back Riina over. In addition, i'll be pming you something SF in regards to the rp.

Riina was begininng to feel the effects of the suppressed feelings from a short while ago. True that she had just been in battle with Stephen as an ally, but she wasn't sure of the empty feeling at the base of her stomach everytime she looked at him or his Gundam. On her bed, Riina curled up and wrapped her pillow around her head and sobbed quietly. Inglesia and Fabiola kept quiet. They knew well enough when to step back. Mary was precious to Riina. Not many in the Hunters were close to Riina. She got along fine with small talk and such, but she did not have many friends, much at the fault of her other two persona. Upon her first few days, Riina was relatively popular with her nice personality and pretty face, but the random interjection of her other personas made the other crew members that did not understand her condition label her as a wierdo. Mary was one of the few that understood her situation and went even as far as treating the other two as actual entities. Silently Riina cried for a while until she fell asleep, exhausted. As professional as she can be, Riina dreaded the buzz of the intercom that would wake her up for the next mission. For now, all she wanted was to be alone.

Once Keiko had awoken due to not being able to sleep because of the unfueled hatred in his mind for the Z.A.F.T forces he decided to take a walk around the ship and try and make himself tired enough to finally hit the hay and get a decent amount of sleep.

On his way round his usual route he overheard quiet sobbing coming from a room nearby, he listened to each door he could see that it could possibly be coming from and knocked on the door in which the sobbing was coming from. "Hey you ok?" Keiko asked, for the first time he had a tone of sadness in his voice.

Stephen sat bolt upright in his bed, a cold sweat running down his face and body. "just a nightmare" he muttered to himself as he stood up, he grabbed his helmet and headed for the hangar bay, he was going to make some adjustments to the settings of the Strike Freedom. he had to take into account the new Phase shift armour and weapon's of Z.A.F.T

he made his way down to the hangar bay, and then took to the cockpit of the SF. He pulled the key board down and began typing. optimising the output of the neuclear reactor and transferring morepower to his phase shift armour and armerments.

OOC: You never stated it, but are you in the Archangel or Eternal? Im going with Archangel as Eternal is a space ship and we are in earth right now.

As much as Riina wanted to sleep, her mind wold not let her. Thoughts kept seeping into her head and the turmoil of emotions kept rolling in her stomach. A few hours later, not able to take it, Riina kicked back her sheets and slipped on her casual wear before making her way down to the hangar. It was very typical of her. Riina treated Le Cygne differently from other pilots. To her, Le Cygne seemed alive, a comrade and life partner. She would confide in it during her lowest moments and during her happiest. Even though she knew it would not respond, she felt safe and calmed around it. At times, she would even feel closer to her Gundam than her alter egos.

The hangar bay doors slid open and Riina stepped at a sleep walker pace towards the hatch of Le Cygne. Directly opposite sat Strike Freedom, its cockpit light spilling onto the gangplank, meaning Stephen was inside. Riina closed her eyes and stepped into her cockpit, leaning back onto the seat. She sat still for a while, but she decided that avoiding it will not solve anything. Better to hit it head on. Lifting her hand, Riina pressed the comm button and open a frequency to Stephen. Riina opened her mouth, but hte words came out a bit stuttered,
her voice losing it's usual chirp and sound extremely downtrodden.

Hey...Stephen...Am i diisturbing you...? If not, can we talk for a second....?

as the com channel opened, Stephen heard Riina's voice, he knew just how close her and Mary were, and it was his fault Mary was gone, Hey...Stephen...Am i diisturbing you...? If not, can we talk for a second....? Stephen heard and he looked out of the cockpit of the freedom and over to the Le cygne "yea, we can talk" he muttered as he pushed the keyboard up "but lets do it face to face" he muttered before he stood upand exited his cockpit, standing on the winchtolower him to the floor from the chest of the 18.88 meter tall Gundam suit, he looked up atthe similarly sized Le Cygne.

"I wonder if she want's me dead" he thought to himself

Riina sighted. She had wanted to avoid a direct talk. She felt that a barrier might be able to shield her from any emotions she might show. Her heart rate went up as Riina began panicking about what to do before calming down in an instant. She had to face Stephen. With a tap of a hand, the keyboard slipped to the side and the frontal dashfoard lowered from between her leg. With a final breathe, Riina gripped the edge of the cockpit and pulled herself out. Standing right there in the open was Stephen.

Um... hey...Stephen. I know this might be unfair, but i have to ask... was it necessary to kill Mary? Was it the only option or was it just not possible...to have disabled her...?

She sort of knew the answer in her heart. Mary was good, probably on par with Stephen. Add that with her personality, it was most likely that Stephen was left with no choice. Even then, Riina needed him to answer her, or she would always be plagued witht he thoughts of "what if stephen had more options...?"

Stephen looked away and towards the floor slightly as Riina asked him the one Question he didn't want to face,of course it was possible for him to take down the Aegis without killing Mary, yes, her pilotting skills were on par with his own, she evenhad the Seed ability, but the factthatthe Strike Freedom was so much better than the Aegis made it impossible for mary to win. But Stephen finally thought about it, the Aegis was almost completely disabled,it could only move and even that wasn't fast. this made him realise that it was Mary's stubborn nature that got her killed.

"No, there was no other option" Stephen muttered his voice shakey, something new for sucha confident pilot "I Had done all I could have possibly done to Disable the Aegis, and she still kept fighting, she was stubborn, right up until the very end" Stephen explained, his kill count was getting higher by the day "I gave her an honourable death, it was the best i could do for her after she chose to continue fighting" Stephen pulled a disk from inside his space suit and threw it across the hangar to Riina "Listen to it, it is mine and Mary's com chatter from the fight, i tried to stop her, but she kept going on about a promise she made" Stephen looked up at Riina, tears in his eyes "but my decision was made for me when she chose to battle on, even with an annihilated suit"

Zeria had grown tired of lazing about in her room and resting. She was wandering the halls and decided to go in to check out the Blitz and see if she could do anything with it.

"Those suits had phase shift armor too...so I'll have to work with mine more often. It's my best chance at keeping up with them..."

She shook her head. To be quite honest, she wasn't sure why she was here anymore, other than for Stephen's sake. Sure, she loved to pilot, but it was hard to keep killing people she could have known in the past. She entered the hangar bay, spotting Stephen and Riina. Keeping silent, and not wanting to interrupt their conversation, she drifted over to the Blitz, climbing into the cockpit, and checking out all her controls.

"Everything seems to be in order...perhaps I should practice more often..."

She frowned, picking up her helmet and looking at it.
[Is this really what I want anymore? Do I really want to have to keep fighting?]
She shook her head again, sighing.

"Of course it is. You were born for this, Zeria. You have to avenge Giulio's death, no matter the cost..."
[Gods...I can barely even remember which suit it was that killed him...]

She slammed her fist down, cursing.

"Damnit, Zeria, this is no time to be weak-hearted!"

Zeria yanked on her helmet, opening a channel.

"Captain, I'm going to launch and work off some stress while I practice a bit. Zeria Iiyasei in the Blitz, launching!"

The Blitz launched, and she was soon flipping around, slashing at an imaginary opponent with her lancer spear.

[Weakness is unbecoming of me. I have to become stronger...for not only my own sake...but for Stephen's as well. If I'm not strong enough to help him, then I don't deserve to love him...]

OOC: Since both you and Leader has made a mission, it is my turn to make one. This is the one where i will implement my plan. Just for plot sake, lets just say we are back in space already

A sigh of relief left Riina. Any by standers looking at her can tell that she visibly relaxed and was less tense. Stephen did not give her the exact answer she wanted, but it was close enough. He had no choice but to take her down and he did not murder Mary through battle bloodthirst. That was all that matters.

Ah well...Mary was always like that. I will miss her though...

Riina had a bitter smile and kicked at a non exsistant rock on Le Cygne. Her tone had a note of forgiveness and finality. Any hostility had left and it appears things have been resolved.

We are Hunters after all... i guess if i, or Zeria ever go against you like Mary, then we should be prepared to fight to the death. But lets leave that when that time comes.

Riina was about to step off back onto the gangplank before a little blip in Le Cygne popped up. A similar pip popped up in Strike Freedom as well.

A message?
To: Pilot Stephen Howman/ Riina Otori
URGENT
New mission. We are going back into space. We received a distressed request from Earth Space Forces requesting assistance against Z.A.F.T Ambush force. Since we are relatively close by, you two will sortie out first to fend the attack off until we arrive.

Out.
It was an odd mission. There was very little information and it was a mission accepted without careful recon. It was very strange indeed. However, it seemed to have passed through the proper procedures as the engineer teams began fitting out the two suits for combat.

Well. I guess we should head out. Keep my back covered.

Riina leapt out onto the gangplank and made her way towards the change room as she said this, giving Stephen a backward wave.

as Riina mentioned him going up against herself or Zeria, Stephen looked to the ground, thoughts burst into his head, and helooked at the screen showing the blitz outside -i could never shoot at her- Stephen thought to himself.

already in his space suit, Stephen heard the message. "damnit, can't a guy get a little peace and quiet around here" Stephen anounced as he spun and leapt, Zero Gravity was better than gravity, easier to get to the Freedom's cockpit. he sat in the chair and the cockpit closed he fasened his suit backup and slid his helmet on, hitting the button, the Glass visor slid down and he moved the Freedom onto the Catapault.

getting the coordinates from the message, Stephen smiled "Stephen Hownam, Strike Freedom. . .LAUNCHING" he burst out with before the Freedom Launched.

Once off the catapault the Freedom's wings spread and he blasted off towards the fight, opening a com link to Zeria as he went "Z stay here" Stephen announced.

Zeria had been taking a fierce swing at her imaginary opponent, when Hownam's message came through. She blinked for a moment, confused.

"What do you mean, stay here? What's going on?"

She didn't like that she was being told to stay behind while the others headed out. But such was the nature of being in the Hunters. Sometimes not all the pilots were sent. She sighed with frustration.

"Just forget it. But when you get back, you owe me an explaination, got it? I don't like worrying unknowingly"

Changed into her suit, Riina kicked off after Stephen. With their speed, it shouldnt be over 2 minutes till they reach the ambush points and they did. Two minutes later, an astroid/ debris field came into sight with the occasional explosion and beam flashes inside the field. It was going to be close quarters.

Right. Let's go Stephen.

The boosters hummed and glowed white before Le Cygne shot forward and into the field, weaving in and out of the obstacles and towards where the skirmish was most concentrated. Riina's eyes flashed as a Ginn flew by in sight and with her HBR, left off a shot, hitting it right on mark in the cockpit and watched it explode. Le Cygne shot right through the explosion and into the fray, heading straight towards the cornered Earth Forces (what were they called again?).

We're from the Hunters. Someone called for back up?

Thank God! We are almost annhilated. They got a Nazca ship circling on the far side of the field behind us, cutting us off and their main forces are hammering us from the front in a semi circle. My men can't fight, so break a hole through the middle and cover our escape.

The lieutenant spat out words faster than a machine gun, but Riina managed to get the gist of it.

Okay. Wait here. My friend and i will deal with it. Let's go Stephen!
