Feedback Forum Skins

There will most likely be a few different colours, just like the current skin we have has; black, cyan and purple. =]

@Steve-O

:hmmm: Will the colour selection be different to the earlier suggestions? I mean... I really liked that green. :hmmm:

Six Mitsuki

Nevertheless, I do like the idea of change... Something to switch it up. :lew:

arrr sweet, happy that there will be a black option, i love switching sites to the darkest color possible :wacky:

:lew: I meant that there will most likely be different shaded options LIKE the current skin we have. I'm pretty sure Mitsuki will want to have a solid colour going around the new skin as well, so black is not out of the question. The colours just might vary is what I meant. :D Depends. It's all up in the air atm.

I actually wouldn't mind something like the Eloquent style that can be seen in the OP's link. As much as I like Seamus, the light text on dark background hurts my eyes :(

Something with a light background just sounds more comfortable to me. But if nobody else wants it, maybe I should just dig into Greasemonkey and do some tweaking of my own. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why I never did that before :hmmm:

i agree. a lighter background would be better. Or at least a different type of forum structure where more freedom in design could occur. someone showed me a link to enixorigin.com and the home page and forum look drastically different. it may be a good idea to completely reboot FFF's entire style.

yes yes, you've heard me complain about this before. but the complete black with very little variety and the new styles may not be upto snuff to be eye candy. It just doesn't feel as unique as it could be. more white, more color variation would suit nicely. Maybe some a specific FF-themed Forum skin can be made and purchased at the shop

@LukeLC @Razberry Knight

I do think a lighter background would be awesome as well. I'd certainly use it. Few problems we have with this is text clashing (unless the text is set to default, but if one is to set their text color to black using light background, it'll be hard to see in darker backgrounds). I know that was one of the issue that our techs brought up anyway.

Since the owner is paying for the themed skins, we also wanna avoid purchasing too many variety. (Although if you guys are really wanting a lighter skin, I'd suggest PMing the owner and see what he thinks...?) I don't mind paying for skins if it helps LG with the cost, but he tends to turn down my offer. :hmmm: If anything, I might be able to talk our tech admins to enable the default vbulletin skin, which is light-based. It was disabled due to the fact that it would require more editing work, and clash of text.

Just to clarify, our tech admin, Belazor will also be doing a lot of work with the skins, fixing compatibility issues and the like. I'm only helping out with tweaking designs, colors, and other variables (cms, navbar, dbtech mods, etc), which is also still a ton of editing work even if it's just one skin. Knowing him though, he'll probably kill me if he found out I plan to edit at least 3 new skins (because that would mean more work for him). :dead:

There's a reason why he avoids FFF these days. :smartass:

So all in all, I want to keep the editing work down to a maximum of three skins. Preferably.

Mitsuki well I'm just playing around with stuff right now and trying to figure out all the different CSS elements, but here's an idea of what could be done based on what I've figured out so far:

What I found quite by accident is that my eyes suffer less if the background around the posts is lighter, even if the posts retain the same color scheme. If I can figure out the CSS for post bodies I still intend to lighten them somewhat for my own purposes, but I think a sort of reverse light/dark theme could look nice and avoid the custom font color issues. Reverse, as in the norm is to have a dark background with light content, but a light background with dark content can look very sophisticated IMO. But the real appeal for me is that it cuts down on the melting retinas for those of us with sensitive eyes :P

Wow, that looks really nice. Did you edit via Firefox's greasemonkey then?

If there's really a high demand for a lighter background, Tia might be able to tweak around with the system's style manager / CSS. But it'll have to be Seamus style since I think we still have a few extra color variation lurking somewhere. (We can take out the stripes in the sides and everything, and edit as necessary).

Unless someone can convince LG to buy two skins. :wacky:

Ahem, dear LG! Please do as Mitsuki suggested so nicely!

(This will work!)

Also, I prefer darker backgrounds, 'cause brighter ones hurt my eyes. xD

can we have a white theme? sometimes i like to change it up a bit. black gets kinda boring after awhile. :/

Actually I was getting a couple addons confused when I mentioned Greasemonkey. That one's for modifying javascript, not CSS. The one I was thinking of is called Stylish, and yes that's what I used to make the changes to the Seamus theme :)

Vote: Black/gray, green/orange, and purple/cyan.

You could try customizing each bTech skin by adding another color to each one.

WILL WE FINALLY HAVE A WHITE THEME?? the black makes pinks and certain other colors look really weird. i'd love to have a theme that is white so that my sigs aren't altered by the surrounding colors :okay:

Having a white theme is going to complicate font color clashing with backgrounds. For both sides, actually. That's the main reason why we chose to go with one universal background theme. Light or dark. Of course, if people really prefer to have both dark and light theme, I suppose that's doable. It's just not advisable since it'll affect user experience a bit and can generally be annoying to have a white font display on a white background or a black / dark grey / dark blue font display on a darker background.

But anyway, here's a poll: http://www.finalfantasyforums.net/threads/58475-Forum-skin-preference

If there's little interest, then I'm afraid it may not be worth it, especially if it's going to be a lot of work. :hmmm:

I'd be willing to pitch in with the CSS work if having more hands working on the project is what it takes. I'm no expert and I've never worked with VBulletin before (other than my experiments which I posted about earlier) but with Google at my side I can handle myself. In theory it should be easy to have a theme-dependant default font color, if that's the main issue. And I for one am fine with a light theme being a secondary user experience (i.e. user defined font colors not going well with a lighter theme). The dark theme could be default, with the light theme an optional, use-at-your-own-risk deal.

Any update on this at all?
