Garnet or Dagger

What do you name the princess?

I usually keep her name "Dagger" because that one ending line wouldn't sound right with any other name... :) though if I'm doing a playthrough where I change everybody's names I usually pick some other weapon just so it works out.

FFIX: That moment when Garnet wants to change her name...

She walks down the hill and asks zidane what the weapon she is holding is...he replies a dagger. She looks up and goes ' from now on I will be called....' I re-called her Garnet so when she said it she sounded stupid..

Ehat did you call her? All funny names welcome too!

P.S I had no idea where to put this.

I name her Dagger because it's the default. I thought that it will have some reference later in the story. I don't change the default names, with the exception of Aeris. I renamed her Aerith.

I named her Ruby tbh.......

Hi, for future reference, try not to write short posts like this, because it can be considered as spam. Elaborate your point a little, when you can. Thanks! =)

Well, first time you get to name her, I name her Garnet. Second time, I name her Dagger.

I usually just stick to the original names of the characters for the heck of it. GUess it keeps talking about the game with other people less confusing.

I also stuck with the default names for Garnet. So, she was Garnet the first time around, then Dagger the second time. I prefer the name "Garnet" over "Dagger" because it suits her well. Plus, I think that's her birthstone? If not, the "garnet" stone is still awesome because it enables you to summon Bahamut, sooo~ xD;

The name "Dagger" isn't too bad though. I thought it was kinda cute how she tried to toughen up her attitude && hide her princess demeanor. :p Plus, the transition to the name "Dagger" symbolized her independence from the royal way of life, which added loads to her character development imo.

Dagger. Like so many others, silly or not, I stick with the default names. Watching my girlfriend play some games is pain to me, because she'll not only change the names, she'll make them into swearwords. (Though not when she actually intends to FINISH a game. Thank god for that.)

My only exception so far has been Red XIII in FFVII. I changed him to Nanaki a couple times. I never understood why he didn't just give his real name. At least in Dagger's case the new name serves a purpose, albeit one that's abandoned relatively early.

I think it'd be pretty funny to have all the characters named after swear words, lol. I also started naming Red XIII "Nanaki" after I found out his real name. I think it sucks that there was no option to change his name 'cause Red XIII is his "experimental specimen" name, y'know? Why would he want to keep a name like that? o_O

I've always kept it as Dagger. Like everyone before me has said, it's symbolism, the game wants her named that, and I think it's a 'cool' name. It fits her personality - Dagger's don't necessarily belong in a royalty type setting *neither does she*.

I name her Sarah because I hated the name Dagger, re-naming her back to Garnet seemed silly and I like the whole pre-FF reference to Princess Sarah so...maybe this time I'll name her "Serah" just to be a smart-ass ^_^

Because of the way the game was intended to have it, I kept it Dagger. Am I fond of the name? No, not so much. In fact, I never refer to her as Dagger; I've always called her Garnet.

But I'm the type of person who always keeps names and such the way that the game intended them to be. Even if they give you the option to change the name.

When I played the game for the first time (about 10-11 years ago I guess) I named her "Vagina". I didn't like her default name and I couldn't really come up with anything witty. So, I just named her "Vagina".

I've replayed it 3 times since then and I keep her default name.

Though I didn't really like the name "Dagger" for her, since it was part of the story I let her keep it. I did once force her to continue to be Garnet, and it had some pretty amusing/awkward moments.

Well I have only completed final fantasy 9 once but on my next replay through it I will definately keep her named Garnet all game. The first time I just use the default names but Dagger is such a stupid/silly name that I find myself having the obligation to change it the next time I play final fantasy IX

ok I admit when she wanted to be called Dagger I was like WTF. I kept it because I'm not in the whole name changing buisness it might take away from the story. As the game went on I actually grew not only to like the name but LOVE IT!!!!! If you ever talk to me on here I will never say "Garnet" I always say Dagger. Dagger suited her in a weird way I can't describe. Also you guys are wrong if Dagger was some tough tomboy chick it would have been wack and cliche. The fact that this princess wanted to go out of her way and call herself Dagger actually made her character that much better to me. If she was Garnet for the whole game I don't think I would have liked her half as much I grew fond of the name Dagger for her.

Agreed that dagger is a crappy name. I much prefer Garnet. Finding out her true name was just another awesome part of ff9 in which they allowed you to discover many things on your own. Thats why I enjoyed ff9 so much.

Despite using Dagger before going to Dali, I think it doesn't make sense. I prefer Garnet over the later.

I never touched the names. I like Dagger anyway, It is good for the storyline, so yeah. I never call her Garnet. I always call her by the name of dagger.

Back in the day, I always named my favorite female character after myself (hey, I know I wasn't the only one!). :P Now I like to keep their original names, but I like Garnet better.

Same thing for characters like
Red XIII (Nanaki), Shadow (Clyde), and Frog from Chrono Trigger (Glenn). Oh, and I used to name Robo from CT "R66-Y" because I was mean like that. XD

I always name her Dagger, but that's because I never change the default names for characters in Final Fantasy. However, I much prefer the name Garnet. Daggers are used for violence and they can be pretty ugly, while garnets are beautiful gems, which describes Princess Garnet perfectly.
