Good theory, chances are though SE will steer well clear of the theme of the weather and the elements for the name of this main character because it's what most FF fans have come to expect
 
I bet you his name is going to be Flare :O

or maybe... Syphon or Ardor D: zomg I figured itz out. Or maybe its going to be a spell not see in FF games for a really long time... like Meteor/Meteo or Tornado.
 
i doubt he will be named after a black magic spell

maybe a summon of somthing like that
 
Not only was one character called 'cloud' they also had a character called 'squall' they didn't continue the weather related names in FFIX and later FF games so I'm going to asume it won't be storm or lightning.
 
SE just released his name .. look guys I had to do alot of research and alot of digging but I finally found out his name will be Sever Off!! J/k J/k lol anyways i hope its not Volcan. and Squall is a bird isn't it??
 
no a squall is a windstorm, usually accompanied by rain or snow.
 
i've heard vulcan and somnus. both are pretty cool names, so i won't be disappointed if its one of those 2.
 
Hhmmm...I prefer Somnus to Volcan, it will be god if SE stayed away from the elements/nature thing they do with the main characters name for once...

Good theory but one thing. You saw in the trailer his eye turn red but apparently his eye will change to different colours depending on the weapon.
 
yeah it looked like his eye changed when he whipped out all those swords and whatnot. damn, this game looks cool.
 
His left eye glowed red when he had hold of a certain sword, yes. Maybe his eye will turn orange when he has a Trident equipped or maybe it will turn purple when he holds a Staff, who knows :P
 
I hope they make a creative name for this guy, all the while making it sound princely, yet he may have a nickname he prefers or something.

Storm - Ugh, this name is terrible. What Royal Family just names their son-to-be-king, "Storm" of all names? This must be a rumor or some mistake or just something disappointing right now, but hopefully Square is going to surprise us.

Lightning - This was the name for the chick in FFXIII right? I don't like it for either character in any case. It doesn't even remotely sound awesome.

If they name him "Storm", seriously, I will change it during the game if given the option.

Vulcan and Somnus sound OK, they're original which is good.

I don't like Storm though, they should seriously stay far away from the weather/element type names for this one, it just won't suit the dark feel to the game.
 
Storm sounds way to gay. Vulcan...hmmm....ok but still not great. Somnus....I mean...come on!
I really have no ideea about a name since I've named all my FF main characters Orrin. They should make the option of changing the name and that's it....end of problems.:)
 
I don't now his name either but i like him very much. I hope it will be some cool name, i won't give my ideas until they release his true identity but i liked some of the names you posted
 
well i thought it waz gonna b storm since i put that in my username, but id rather it b one of the other two, vulcan or somnus. it'd b even better if they just started over with the names and came up with something better than those

apperiently lightning and storm are just the names SE is using to refer to the 2 main characters in interviews and such, as to not give away their real names,and therefore, are not their real names
