So, what do you think? I was a little surprised by some of the list, particularly Tait sith, Yuffie and Reno. I was also surprised that Cloud was only at number 3. I'm not surprised that Sephiroth is at number one, and I expected Aerith and Tifa to be in the top 5 too.

Not surprised that Sephiroth is number one, although I had expected Cloud to be either one or two. Now, Reno and Rude...number 5? Really? And...where is Vincent? Now that's shocking to me, considering that Cait Sith is 10...

I'm very surprised that Vincent and Hojo weren't even mentioned at all. Vincent is a much better character than Cait Sith, even if I despised Dirge of Cerberus. For Reno to beat out Zack, that's a bit ridiculous as well.

I think that list was just some guy's personal favorites. I give it the thumbs down.

I have to agree. That list is quite puzzling. The fandom for Vincent is a whole lot larger than Cait Sith ... anywhere. Being beaten out of the top 10 by him is quite strange really.

I dunno why but my post from before either just disapeared or for some reason I forgot to hit post.
Either way, I was just wondering why they tend to make a FF top list around every month or two. They all tend to end up the same.
About Vincent on the other hand, I personally just didn't see him on the top since he's not a main character. Main people went through the first play through without even knowing of him, I know I did.

This is strange to me because of Cait Sith and Cid. Cid is alright and all, but I didn't expect him to make the list. I was hoping Rufus would be in there. :P
It doesn't look at all like a general consensus though.

5. Tseng/Cait Sith
4. Reno
3. Dyne
2. Rufus
1. Red XIII

If we're going to make lists, I'll make my own and explain:

10. Yuffie Kisaragi
Let's face it, Yuffie has been in every Final Fantasy game after 7. Yuffie is the 'cheerful, hyper, slightly insane, underage, loli-con sort of character. Yuffie's character translates to: Selphie, Eiko, Rikku, and Penelo.
As a character, she's been in FFVII, Crisis Core, Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, Before Crisis, Ehrgeiz, and Kingdom Hearts. She was an optional character in the game, yet became popular enough to get her in all of the spin-offs.

9. Reno
You have to admit it, Reno has a huge following and fanbase. For a side character that isn't even playable, that's pretty ridiculous. That's why Reno landed a spot on my list.

8. Jenova
FFVII would not exist, without Jenova. In fact, for those that don't know it: Jenova is more active within FFVII than Sephiroth himself: because throughout all of FFVII, all we were seeing as the player, was Jenova. She also caused the Geostigma, and was the cause for...oh...every single event that occurred in FF7 history. Without Jenova, that game doesn't exist.

7. Tifa Lockhart
Tifa was one of the first female characters to personify the 'strong, hot, yet loveless or angsty' sort of character. The Tifa spin-offs would include: Quistis, Freya, Lulu, and Ashe.

Although, the real reason she made it on this list, is she was the first FF character to introduce the 'babe' factor. In any and all threads or polls about 'Hottest FF character,' Tifa always wins, by a fair amount. Square was pretty darn smart to figure out the connection between large boobs and game sales.

6. Professor Hojo
Hojo, is one of the most grotesque characters ever introduced to Final Fantasy. Sephiroth doesn't have anything on this evil-doer. Hojo created a Hell for Sephiroth, Ifalna, Gast, Vincent, Lucrecia, Cloud, Zack, Weiss, Nero, and even Aerith, if you think about it. Sephiroth's evil deeds destroyed one village, an old President, some weak ShinRa MPs [Which Cloud and company killed a lot more of], and a flower girl. Hojo was a much better villain than Sephiroth was, and sorely underrated.

5. Vincent Valentine
Vincent, also, has an incredibly large fanbase. His popularity as a simple optional character warranted him his own game, where he starred as the main hero. Although Dirge of Cerberus was an awful game, it showed us more of Vincent's disturbing past.

4. Zack Fair
Crisis Core really breathed life into this character, and allowed for a much broader fanbase. Many fans of Cloud decided that they liked Zack more than Cloud. Zack's following began to grow with Last Order [since...a lot of people didn't know about that secret scene in FFVII], but was finalized with Crisis Core. Fans were allowed to better understand his story, and learned just how much of an impact he had on the FF7 world. Plus, it was rather refreshing to be able to play a FFVII game where the protagonist wasn't Master of Angst. Zack was a strong, light-hearted character, who even under harsh, horrible conditions, was able to pull through with a smile. He was a very lovable character.

3. Cloud Strife
Cloud is, by far, the most popular Hero in the Final Fantasy franchise. At first, Cloud was known as the 'guy who looks like a skinny Super Saiyan Goku, but eventually, he became known as 'Cloud Strife.'
Cloud has appeared in various Square Enix creations: Kingdom Hearts I & II, Ehrgeiz, Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Last Order.

Whenever the question of 'favorite Hero' comes up, Cloud is usually way up there, if not voted as number 1. He had a great amount of development, and had some very unique troubles that other FF heroes never had to deal with. Cloud was a very memorable character, because of all of his issues.

2. Aerith Gainsborough
No one could forget Aerith, the tragic heroine of Final Fantasy VII. It was Aerith's death that made her the unforgettable, and even 'holy' character that she became.

Aerith was so loved by fans that Square Enix decided to revive her from the dead many times. Advent Children, Kingdom Hearts I & II, Final Fantasy Tactics, etc. Personally, I sort of feel that all of the games Aerith keeps appearing in, is part of the reason why she's so unforgettable...because she's one ghost that just doesn't stop haunting.

1. Sephiroth
Despite the fact that I still believe Kefka and Kuja were better villains than Sephiroth, I will still admit this: Sephiroth is one of the most famous villains of video game history. Anyone who has played Final Fantasy, and even people who haven't, know who Sephiroth is. I'd venture to say he's the most famous Final Fantasy character ever created, which is the reason I've listed him as Numero Uno on this list.

Red XIII is way too low on that list. :(

Figured that either Sephiroth or Cloud would be number one.

Though I'm surprised that Vincent or Rufus did not make the list. I mean, Vincent's fandom is huge and Rufus is also a pretty popular character. (The did revive him for AC after all...)

Super shocked that Cait Sith even made the list. (Though I'm one of the few people out there that actually like him.)

How can Vincent not be on the list?I expected him to be 5th or 6th and his got a lot of fans I think.

To compare Tifa to Ashe, Freya and Lulu is a bit of a larf. They're all different characters. Completely.

I don't understand why people every time they refer to Tifa they refer to her boobs.I know that she's not human, but let's suppose she was, wouldn't that be disrespectful? She's not only boobs, nor the other females. And plus it's not like she uses them to make Cloud go out with her.

Zack should have been ranked higher,he's a really lively character that anyone would enjoy playing like him.I agree that Reno should be ranked lower since he's just a side character.I might not like Aerith that much but the 2nd place deserves her.

To compare Tifa to Ashe, Freya and Lulu is a bit of a larf. They're all different characters. Completely.

If you look at the character formula, they're all quite similar.
The Tifa formula: strong female character, who is either loveless, or lost a loved one, and is a bit angsty as a result.

Tifa, though she hid her feelings well, was quite an angsty character when it came to the end of FFVII, and rightfully so.

Quistis, as much as I love her, followed the same exact rules. She loved Squall, but lost him, and tossed it up to 'sisterly love.' She was a very strong character throughout the game, and didn't allow her personal feelings to sway her. [Except for apologizing to Rinoa. /)_-]

Freya, during the entirety of the game, was searching for Sir Iron-Tail Fratley. She finds him, and he doesn't remember her at all. As a result, Freya was rather shattered. But, she still continues onward, and is happy to know he's alive, even if he doesn't remember her. Again, she was the 'serious, yet strong' female character.

Lulu, again, lost a loved one. She loved Wakka's younger brother Chappu, and had mentioned her loss a few times within the game. She, too, followed the 'serious, yet strong' personality.

And Ashe, was just like the others. Her husband was murdered, and she was in love with him as well. She was a strong character, but seemed to get easily shot down at times. Eitherway, she still pushed onward, even though she was haunted by Prince Rasler.

As for Tifa, her chest has been a bit of a staple among FF7 fans, primarily since most Final Fantasy fans are male. Of course, there's a fair amount of female fans, but not as many. If Tifa was a real person, she wouldn't have that chest, to be perfectly honest, unless she had incredible genes. Tifa is an incredibly athletic girl, and I've never met someone who was athletic all of their life, that had a large chest, unless they were implants. Not to mention, Square went a bit overboard when it came to Tifa in FF7. Whenever Tifa was in an FMV, her chest was moving. Square intended on Tifa being a fanservice character, just as they turned Yuna, Rikku, and Paine into fanservice characters in X-2. Though, in Tifa's defense, her new attire really did help to tone down her build, so fans [like myself] could take her more seriously.

As for Rufus, he's my favorite FF7 character, but I understand why he isn't on the Top 10 list, and why I couldn't put him on mine. Rufus isn't a very popular character. The amount of fans for Reno, far outweigh Rufus. Rufus is a great character, because he can be sinister at times, yet secretly good other times. Eitherway, his fanbase is still rather limited.

Cait Sith snuck in at number 10? I can't take that list seriously if Cait Sith is on it. Horrid character.

What? Mukki isn't on the list? How very wrong and tragic. :wacky: On a more serous note: As I have a look, at the list, I'm deeply surprised as well! Vincent isn't on there, AT ALL? I find it hard to believe. I always figured he was an extremely popular character! If anyone, should be left out, I figured it'd be Caith Sith. All of the people, I talk to, usually hate the cat's guts. Wow. This list just isn't right, at all. Anyway, I'm not at all surprised to see Sephiroth at number one and Aerith at number two. Both are extremely well known and famous to most gamers.

I definatly think Vincent should of been on the list. ^^
He is a much better character that Cait.
I mean, he's a stuffed toy for gods sake..
I also think Jenova should of been on because like it's been said, FF7 would not exist without her.
I think Rufus could of somewhat appeared on the list aswell seeing as he is quite a large part of the story.

where did my list go!and vincent needs on genises angeal barret holladner take cait sith red x111o or watev his name is off and arieth plus cid i mean that list is either random ppl or messed up!

LOLOLOL Angeal, Genesis and Hollander deserve to be on the list more than Aerith and Cid? That's just messed up. Especially considering that Aerith and Cid are much more memorable, and just plain better, characters than Genesis and Angeal. And Hollander isn't even that memorable.

Granted, I expected Vincent to be on the list rather than Cait Sith, and not putting Barret on the list is a crime. But removing Aerith and Cid for any of the CC characters would be ridiculous :wacky:

I agree with Agrias. These characters didn't even exist back then when FFVII came out and compare them to Aeris and Cid.It's just so low. They've existed for over 10 years now,not like the CC characters.

I'm glad to see that Aerith managed to get a higher recognition than Cloud...albeit, I still wasn't surprised that Sephiroth was top. But again, I just think that Sephiroth is completely whored and when it comes to Cloud, although Zack isn't as popular he was by far a more likeable character than Cloud ever was. I was surprised to see that Vincent wasn't in there though. :O

red xiii way too low!!!! im surprised about vincent...sorry to sound like a broken record and all but he is so popular. i dont like him personally i think hes over rated but he needed to be in this top ten.
