Is Kefka really that bad?

Kefka can be called scary since for the majority of FF6, if not the entirety, he was just playing around rather than using his full strength.

Even before he acquired the
Light of Judgement
he was a mass murdering psychopath. He
poisoned a whole castle
, killed a
group of espers with ease without even thinking about it
, kicked
the emperor off the floating continent as if he was nothing (a hugely significant scene)
, etc. After this, with the
Light of Judgement, he was able to burn entire towns
as if he was a child with a magnifying glass burning ants on the pavement. He could have destroyed much more if he had wanted to, but where would the fun in that be? He wanted to savour it. He wanted to see the fear in people, and to see them worship him as a god. Destroying it all in one go would be no fun.

Kefka seemed to kill for enjoyment as much as it was for a goal. People had every right to fear him as he was responsible for the death of
millions (the change from the World of Balance to the World of Ruin alone probably killed as much)
. While Kefka did have goals to an extent we were never sure what they were or to what extent they reached until too late, and since he didn't care about anyone and could and would kill anyone, he was for that reason a very dangerous and unpredictable villain.

He also resembles a clown (or clown / bard, but an entertainer nonetheless), and some people would fear him for that alone.

Im terrified of clowns but he dont scare me whats so ever! :)I kinda think he is cute but them spoilers not put me off whatsoever about him... well i dunno now..

Kefka is definitely a dangerous villain, one of the most frightening FF villains IMO. He is really fun to hate though, he does it with style and it's funny to see him get frustrated sometimes, like in the beginning when he's in the Figaro desert :D

Although he can be a little creepy at times, I don't think Square Enix made him to be scary. I thought he was made to be annoying, laughable, stuck up, and insane. Later in the game he gets a little creepy though.

Kefka is definitely one of Final Fantasy's most insane villains and he wasn't evil at first, something inside him just made him that way and shattered his sanity. He also has his trademark laugh, which is one of the most epic things you could see in Final Fantasy.

"There's SAND on my boots!"

Me thinks he is like the joker and I am defo a joker fan girl. I really want to buy disdieia now as I seen kefka in action and he is cute and makes me laugh. :) (yes I did get horny watchin his vids)

I wouldn't actually think he's awesome.. He's scary to some extent, but for the most part, I thought he was the comic relief of the entire game, despite his actions. Just look at the cut scenes that feature him, particularly what he says. Priceless.

Helps to know that fighting him at the end is some challenge too... Okay, maybe not quite a challenge, but the music was good.

Kefka, funny guy but being Mentally unbalanced is not enough to make you scary,I know;)
his clownish disposition just goes to show how serious he should be taken, when bad guys are pushed over the edge, some of there alter-egos are very formidable.

but kefka became a Psychotic clown.....a unique choice definitely.....and powerful to boot, but he doesnt send chills down your spine, if your gonna be done in by a FF bad guy you want the whole experience right?

If Sephiroth or Ultimecia kills you you wont be laughing you would be crapping yourself.

Have you heard this guy dodge on Dissidia he's bloody nuts he almost gets KO'ed and he laughs it of and keeps prancing around......LMAO

well look at what's 'good' inside him. there's nothing. all he wants is power and to destroy everything. throughout the game, even before he gets the power of the gods, he is all about killing and destroying, regardless of what anyone thinks.

he is just a psychotic person.

I think that the most evil main villain is Exdeath, the most evil "human" villain Sephiroth.

I think that Kefka is disqualified by reason of insanity. Sephiroth fully comprehends his actions and doesn't excuse them as being for a "greater good" other than his own. With Kefka, there's really no way to know how much of him is really left since the Magitek Infusion.

I also don't think he "wasn't using full strength." But make no mistake, he was definitely a force to be reckoned with. It's just freaky how unstable he is in Dissidia. "Does it hurt...DOES IT?!" "Hehe--DON'T MESS WITH ME!" "Let the PARTY BEGIN! ...Hopes aren't worth dirt! I'm gonna destroy EVERYTHING!"

Kefka is hilarious! XD I loved everything he did because it was all so random! When he randomly just chucked the guy off the thing(refer to Argors spoiler) you can't tell me you didn't chuckle a little! I do agree he goes overboard at the end but he's all around insane.

I think he's one of the best FF villains ever. Even better and scarier than Sephiroth I would say...

Out of all the Final Fantasy villians Kefka is most definatly the BEST, that's not an opinion it's a fact. The main reason being that he has something that NO other FF villian has...he ACTUALLY acomplished what he set out to do. Garland/Chaos got reset in an endless loop of defeat, Emperor was defeated by the Rebelion, Cloud of Darkness/Exdeath were stoped from returning everything to the Void, Golbez/Zeromus were stoped before they conqured/destroyed the Earth, Ultimecia made poor choices in who to posses in the past, Zidane killed his older bro & Tidus' dad was beaten by his son AND last I checked ol Seph still hasen't SAAAAILED the stars with dear ol mommy.

Kefka has caused the most sheer carnage & destruction out of ALL the Final Fantasy villians thus far, I mean tell me ONE other FF villian that has changed the very FACE of the planet? None you say...I thought not. Sure Sephiroth is POPULAR but he doesn't have half the resume Kefka has built up in ONE game. MAN I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE FF6 REMAKE ON the 3DSi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, yes he is. The only one that comes near to his baddie badness, is Ex-Death. :)

He's funny as well as dangerous. ^.^

Vorash: Alright, that just annoyed me. And here's why:

"He actually accomplished what he set out to do."

His exact words were, "I will destroy everything & make a monument to non-existance." No he friggin' didn't. In fact, he didn't even accomplish damaging the world. It seemed to have gone right back to normal at the end.

"X was beaten."

Cloud of Darkness is immortal. Zeromus will exist as long as hatred does. Sephiroth is not out of the game yet. Kefka is dead. We're not sure about Exdeath. Garland, Kuja, & Golbez all either survive or appear to have survived & had a Heel Face Turn. He's one of the few FF villains who has a definitive death & the ONLY major one who's never cheated death. How in the world was he "not stopped"?

"Kefka has caused the most sheer carnage so far."

If you look carefully, most of the towns are still there. That means he has roughly the same body count as Sephiroth. As for other villains that dramatically changed the world's land-&-sometimes-reality-scape: Garland, CoD/Xande, Exdeath, Sephiroth, Ultimecia, Garland/Kuja, & Yu Yevon/Sin. The last one easily killed the most people in the series.

"Sure Sephiroth is popular..."

And Kefka is easily the most overexaggerated villain ever. He is awesome. He probably is the funniest. He is NOT well-developed. He did NOT destroy the world. He did NOT win. He does NOT have the highest body count. He is NOT the most powerful.

"Resume Kefka has built up in ONE game."

Alright, only going from originals:

Destroy a town-Both, but Kefka's was clearly bigger.
Rip the planet a new asshole-Only Kefka, not counting the Compilation.
Mass murder-Both.
Fool others into giving him power-Both.
Break the heroes' spirit-Both, but Sephiroth did it to a greater extent.
Attain extreme magical powers-Both, although Kefka was arguably more powerful.
Attain great physical powers-Sephiroth.

Yeah, I'd say they're pretty even. Depending on how you interpret some events, Kefka has slightly better overall stats.

Very Good points you put forward Bahamut.
Here are my two cents...

I don't think anyone can put a price tag on sheer insanity.

I'm sure to some extent many of the other FF antagonists had some form illogical paradigm. But most of them were goal driven, objective and even prudent in many cases.

I always like to compare Kefka to the Joker. And I believe the late Heath Ledger's rendition of the Joker was one of the better examples of insanity.

Remember when Batman was trying to beat the cr@p out him in the interrogation room. Apparently, the Joker - who had nothing to fear - was so hyped over the fact that Batman couldn't get anything out of him no matter what he tried. Another example ~ he was laughing as he was falling off the building near the end...

Now that's just crazy... And that's KEFKA! - just take out the brilliant mastermind scheming capabilities of the Joker, and replace it with limitless magical power.

You can't put a price on Kefka's brand of insanity. I don't think he's sane enough to fear anything. His motives are completely screwed. And in my book, that's what makes him an awesome villain.

*Insert long post here*

That's pretty much it. Even when not using his full powers he simply didn't back down from anyone and was vicious. He was one of saddism, and while his plans never got completed, they got pretty close as shown with even near the end of the game with
half of the world blown apart

The fact that he was clowning around and he still managed to kill HUNDREDs. It makes him somewhat awesome. But also the fact that he clowns around makes him really annoying. People said he's the best, ut i'm quite disappointed by him. He;s just a violent carney( as if there's any other kind)

For someone completely insane, he used a lot of strategy to keep in power. I agree that he is the coolest, scariest, and most powerful in all Final Fantasies.
