Yeah, the long debate of which is better…the English voice-overs or the Japanese. Although the debate is pretty unanimous being in favor of the Japanese acting, I would have to agree. I’ve only seen the move in English, but I have seen a few of the scenes in Japanese on YouTube and agree...it’s much better than the English version.

I prefer the Japanese version by far. Steve Blum as Vincent isn't terrible, but I just don't care for it at all. Steve Blum is a great voice actor but just not my first pick for Vincent. Shogo Suzuki still rules all with that voice ;)

Mena Suvari(sp?) as Aeris is god awful. And Rachel Leigh Cook is okay as Tifa, but once again, can't compete with Ito.


English Cid & Barret? All I can say is blech.

Steve Burton as Cloud was surprisingly good to me though. I didn't remember his voice to well from KH but hearing him like this AC made me realize Cloud is the only one I couldn't pick which I liked better, both were awesome.
 
I got WAY to use to in Japanese, having seen it so many times before the English release. The English is okay... I am happier with the Japanese because all the mouth movements match up, because that was the language it was made for, and when they said "Dilly Dally Shilly Shally" I almost fell on the floor laughing. It was a poor translation of "Drifting, drifting,...." So, that really threw it off for me.
 
Okay...everyone's gonna kill me, but I like the English one better. I'm working towards being a voice actor myself, and I'm in Japanese Class, but Steve Blum (Vincent) and Quinton Flynn (Reno) and Steve Burton (Cloud) really make it awesome! And I can't remember who Sephiroth's voice actor is, but he's much better in the english version....*hides behind a rock so nobody kills her*
 
I don't mind either, although i have to say i prefer the english one as i watched it first and also, reading the subtitles when i know i don't need to is a pain in the neck. MInd you, come to think of it, i watched it without subtitles and was trying to remember what was going on.......
 
^ That's my point too, though I don't have much of a problem watching it in Japanese too, got used to subs from all the anime :D
 
I can't believe how many votes the English got. In my opinion, the English for the most part was terrible.

Aeris sounds dead and so monotone that its awful. I preferred it when Mandy Moore did her voice in Kingdom Hearts (the first game).

I don't know what happened to Steve Burton when he did Cloud's voice. In the first KH game, he sounded alright but then again, remember, he had a short time to speak. In AC he just sounded overly sad and I think Aeris' voice actor must've influenced his game and then he got the monotone disease as well. -_- It was just a really dry voice.

Kadaj was one of the most disappointing. He really did sound too much of a kid to me even if Kadaj is young, it could've been a lot better. Kadaj's English VA also did the English voice for Fayt; the main character of Star Ocean III Till The End of Time in which they both sound the same. I personally hated Fayt's voice. When he screams in the game is like a girl or pre-pubescent boy going: EWWAAAHHHH!!!

I admit though, Loz and Tifa had good English VAs as well as Reno. I personally am in love with Quinton Flynn for doing such a good job with Reno AND Axel from Kingdom Hearts.

Overall, I preferred the Japanese voices because all the voices sound heart-felt and one does not need to know the language to realize that fact. Cloud's Japanese VA was great. Even hearing every breath of Cloud made it seem he put his best foot forth and did a great job.

Kadaj's Japanese VA was also pretty impressive. If you've ever seen the GetBackers anime, he voiced Genji on that show (pretty much the main character next to Ban Mido). To make Kadaj sound psycho, very different from the Genji character, shows his talent range to pull off a Kadaj and I really enjoyed his voice.

English sucked. Japanese was better.

English took off some Japanese feature (Before crisis or the anime on Zack). Also, Cloud has an ugly voice. Japanese was way better. Also, they had better expressions.
 
I Prefer the film in japanses, i actually thought the voice acting in the english version was terrible. Aerith's Voice sounded like Microsoft Sam.
(Though i might be slightly bias because i watch everything in japanese if i can, i find it more enjoyable)

JAPANESE ALL THE WAY!! I don't like the English version... it doesn't go well with the characters outlook appearance... Just like on how men look a a so-called "pretty" woman and her voice sounds like a man's... Too much info, I know. xD
 
As an english dub fan, i gotta say, the japanese dub was better.
 
It actually doesn't matter to me... I speak both languages, and I can see flaws in the VAs in both versions. Honestly, the movie itself was a huge dissapointment to me because I was looking for more of a reunion with the characters I grew to love in FFVII, and I didn't really get all of that.

Oh well... at least I got to see a good amount of my favorites again. =)
 
I have to say English. I do like the Japanese version, but the English has got something quite endearing about it. I did think Aeris and Cid were terrible, but I love the peformances put in by Quinton Flynn (Reno) and Steve Blum (Vincent) were the stand-out performances. But I think Steve Blum has a lot more experience with dubbing, I've seen him in so much lately! His spin on Vincent, both in AC and Dirge of Cerberus, made it mucho sexy!!!! Of course I just love Vincent anyway, and can't imagine anyone else as his voice!;)

I'm surprised that people weren't impressed with Cait Sith, I thought it was very clever to make him Scottish, and Greg Ellis is another seasoned dub performer.

Though to a point I agree that Tifa and Cloud had a very flat tone in the English dubs. It dragged it down a tiny bit. But again, I'm not sure who else could have been chosen in Rachel Leigh-Cook or Steven Burton's places. And I did really like Kadaj, he wasn't supposed to be particularly mature, and his lines fit the lip movement the closest.
 
I loved both versions (and is currently looking for it in French, for I am learning French), but I loved it more in Japanese. English was great, the voices were well suited to the chararters, but Japanese had a stronger feel about it, you know? It seemed more stronger feel about it, It's hard to explain. Erm, I just liked it better in Japanese, Oh! Wait, just remembered something else, I'm also trying to learn some Japanese, so I try to learn some words from it, but I've only learned one word, Mother, LOL!

I used to like the English dub better, since I didn't have to read subtitles, but after watching a lot of subbed anime, the subs weren't such a burden anymore. After a few months, I came to the conclusion that the English dub sucked and sounded too robotic (in my opinion), and learned to appreciate the Japanese voices, which were chosen well.
 
I think things work better if you watch them in the original way they were made. I like the English Dubbed version, but I think the Japanese version has more dept and emotion to it. If you want to look at the amazing visuals I'd go for the dubbed version, if you want to focus on story i'd go with the Subs.
 
For the most part, I prefered the Japanese version, except for Cid, Cait Sith, and Yuffie. But seriously; what drunkard chose the english voice actor for Loz? Like, come on! It was embarrasing!
 
I prefer some of the Japanese voice actors, but I watched and own the English version of the film and prefer that more. I would rather understand the English being spoken since I do not know Japanese yet. By hearing the English I don't have to sit there and watch sub-titles which would take my attention off of the action going on on-screen.
