Let's Play Final Fantasy 7! (???)

Part 1: A Whole New Adventure

http://youtu.be/mdh2iHmbI64

Welcome to the start of FF7! To kick things off, we take on a giant reactor with a bomb, while meeting our crew: Cloud (the main protagonist), Barret (a major help/hindrance), Biggs, Wedge and Jessie (some NPCs).

This whole area is known as Midgar and will be the area we spend the intro of the game at. It's not a huge chunk of the first disc but it does take up a fair few hours.

Anyways, it looks like we've got our first boss already! It kinda reminds me of the whelk a bit from FF6:

----------------------------------------------

Guard Scorpion Strategy:

- Use Cloud's Bolt spell every turn unless he runs out of MP. Bolt is the boss' weakness ;).
- Attack if you run out of MP
- Use potions with Barret if one of them goes down to about 100 HP, seeing as he deals less damage than Cloud right now.
- Don't attack at all when the scorpion puts his tail up...regardless of Barret telling you to do otherwise. The boss has a nasty counter-attack at this point.

----------------------------------------------

Look out! We only have 10 minutes to escape now that the bomb is set!

...Thanks for watching ha! We'll be escaping that explosion next time! :)

Set your ATB bar to active, your progression bar to take action will keep filling up even if the enemies are attacking. It's set to Wait by default. Would speed things up a bit, if you like that. :D Also, lmao at your comments.

I think I'll leave it at the default for now. When there's a full party, it fills up pretty quick anyway imo. And danke...I tend to spout major randomness :wacky:.

Good upload. I can't wait to see you meet Aerith. I will give you gil if you do not call her a slum drunk :pooley: This beginning is one of my favorite openers for a game, how about you? It's so cinematic, which is strange for such an old game that looks like a bunch of chibis. :lew:

Anyway, I will watch all your uploads 'sept the Kalm flashback, I would rather step on ten legos than watch that bore fest. :pooley:

Haha, I got a bit carried away with recording and have done 5 episodes now...I won't spoil if I call her that or not though! Yeah, I love this opening. I love the openings to FF7-9 about equally...but this one is the nicest in terms of making you excited to play without all-out action. I wonder...what FF13 characters would look like as chibis? I honestly think I would have preferred them like that...they may have been half interesting.

lol fair enough about the Kalm episode! I will be doing something a tiny bit different with that episode (or god forbid: episodes), but the story will still be there...

I'm glad you'll watch ma'am. Shall see you around :monocle:.

Part 2: Train, Train, Take Us Away~

http://youtu.be/S2bLmzaPboM

Welcome back! At the end of the last part, we were given 10 minutes to escape from our own bomb...so now we're doing just that!

The escape time includes battles, so it's up to you if you want to fight the battles or just run away. The exp ain't great so running is a perfectly good option.

There are quite a few cinematics that make me happies in this one. They're all so nostalgic for me :sad2:. I'll leave those for you to see.

Finally, we take a bit of time to make sure our fake IDs work on the train.

Do we make it off the train? Do the Fake IDs work? Does everyone survive??? Well...yes.

Thanks for watching! See you next time when we check out sector 7 and find ourselves in the presence of a new character :).

P.S. I'd like to link you to this piano composition too. It's actually based on FF8, but it links with this episode's title so...here it is :wacky:.

It is, of course, not me.

Part 3: Promise To A Lockheart

http://youtu.be/Wlv4OB9HiYY

Are you ready to check out the Avalanche hideout: Tifa's Final Heaven? Well, here we go! It's a pub in the sector 7 slums (though it's not as slummy as some of Midgar).

Within this pub, there's a swell, well-proportioned young lady known as Tifa. She's a spirited lass, but with plenty of heart (especially for our Cloud!). I don't know if it's really entirely love she has for him, but they certainly get on well since they were childhood mates. She can also twist him around her finger so easily, so I assume Cloud must feel something?

ANYWAY! This time at the pub allows us to have a short briefing on the 2nd reactor bombing (reactor 5?). Ever so FF8.

We also head on over to the weapon store and check out what's on offer. There's apparently a good bit of upgradery to be done. The item shop has materia too...and there's an All materia in the tutorial place, so check that out.

Thanks for watching! We're heading onto the 2nd reactor mission next time, which holds some special surprises for us :).

P.S. I'm not sure if I'm being thick (probably!), but is Marlena really Barret's daughter or does she just really like him? With the sort of area they're in, Shinra could have done anything to her real father and Marlena could have just gone to live with them adopted-style (if it's not Barret). Who is her mother? Have I missed something? :/

"hard milk" :lew:

You're right. He isn't emo. :mokken:

I think she was laughing, the fuck? :lew:

oh god, the way barret climbs the pipes.... :ffs:

and yes, Marlene is Barret's adopted daughter. Tifa has been helping raise her, though. I won't spoiler much more than that, though.

"since they were childhood mates"

I take it you've never played VII before?

I take it you've never played VII before?

I've played it loads but...it's been a long time. I never really paid any attention to Marlene either. When I'm LPing, I'm forced to pay more attention and I notice little details I never noticed before.

lmao Barret climbing those pipes when the pinball machine is right there. :derp:

So she is laughing! Disturbing :wacky:.

yeah, not sure why she's laughing. how could you call them childhood friends then? :gasp: the lifestream even shows you that they didn't know each other :gonk:

this is why you're replaying, :mokken:

Part 4: The President's Pet

http://youtu.be/JoZ-9KOU4IM

Time for us to take the train to the next reactor! This time it doesn't go quite so well though so we have a bit of a trek on our hands.
After the great climb to the reactor, we have a similar situation on our hands: we need to plant the bomb! Upon escaping though...

-----------------------------------------

Air Buster Strategy:

- Bolt is its weakness. Use it! ;)
- Attack its back more to deal more damage.
- Be prepared to deal with the counterattacks. Keep yourself healed up with a cure-all combo or just cure. Or just potions.
- Otherwise, go all out with limits.

-----------------------------------------

And that's that sorted! Unfortunate about the after effects...and that our new friend President Shinra doesn't care about us very much after all.

Thanks for watching! We'll see how Cloud is doing next time :).

P.S. I think I have the borders right this time. Thing is that the best I can do is make it fit during battle...because there's different amount of black borders depending on the main menu/battle screen/bits where you wander around etc.

Thank you! It's been a wee while since I played too, but my memory seems alright. So it should after playing the game through about a million times years ago :wacky:.

Part 5: The Flower Girl

http://youtu.be/hTQIM5bzoWY

Here's the proper introduction of Aeris! We've crashed into the church of Midgar (I assume it's the only one) and landed on the only flowers that can grow in the city :D.

More importantly: Aeris. She is an innocent girl who is seemingly having a bit of an issue with Shinra lately. They keep trying to grab her!
Her mother seems lovely too...and so does the house. Strange how there are flowers growing in the back garden? Meh, doesn't matter.

Look out for the purple blob in the garden...Cover is handy; it allows one character to protect another character. Remember the Protect Girls ability from FF9? Similar, but with blokes too.

It looks like we're leaving Aeris behind now without even using her in a battle! She's such a good mage too.

Thanks for watching! We'll be starting our journey back to sector 7 next time ;).

Part 6: Cloud's Love For Fashion

http://youtu.be/ak4W6Q3kayM

Welcome one and all to Transvestite Avenue! Cloud may be the only bloke who likes the dresses, but still.

I would like to show you how to make sure Cloud is picked by Don Corneo during the Wall Street section of FF7. We'll grab the perfect dress (does my butt look big in this?), the perfect wig (I feel like my hair doesn't suit my thong...), some underwear (right up the crack) and a few other little bits and pieces.

Funniest. Part. Ever.

Thanks for watching! We'll see Corneo's reaction next time...and do a wee bit more too. :)

Part 7: I'll Chop 'em Off!

http://youtu.be/z7xWjA6UK7w

Hey folks, it's time for us to see the results of our cross-dressing efforts! Who will be picked for a marvelous time with Don Corneo?

We also meet a lovely creature in the sewers:

------------------------------------------

Aps Strategy:

- Fire works best. It's the weakness.
- Make sure to keep healing wind and cure-all for when you've been hit hardest by the tsunami.
- Use other limits as soon as you get them.
- You could go all defensive for this battle and let him kill himself. If you do this, just stick to healing and defending with the occasional fire spell.

------------------------------------------

Not much to him really. Once the short sewer dungeon has been beaten, we make a start on the train graveyard.

This place has you move trains to move further in. Look out for an enemy that looks like a dulahan (sp?) and steal Aeris' best weapon to date (Striking Staff) from him. He is a rare-ish encounter and can be tough to steal from, but it's worth it.

Thanks for watching! We'll see if we can save Sector 7 from Shinra next time ;).

Part 8: Sector 7's Major Trial

http://youtu.be/KBaJGymUM78

First off: Merry Christmas! I want to keep the rest short for today so that I can be quick.

In order to save Sector 7 from a crushing end, we need to take on Reno of the Turks (of Shinra):

-----------------------------------------

Reno Strategy:

- Use magic with Tifa and Cloud. Anything will do.
- Attack with Barret (you can use magic too, but it won't be quite as effective in my experience).
- If a character is put inside a pyramid, use a different character to physically attack the pyramid. Pressing select for target help will really help.
- Use limit breaks whenever possible. If you already have Barret's 2nd limit, don't bother with it. Keep with Big Shot.

-----------------------------------------

And he's down, leading to an amazing little cinematic showing just how evil President Shinra really is.

All that's left now is to head on over to Aeris' house and tell her mother the news. This earns us a little bit of back story about Aeris; apparently, she's an Ancient who can hear the spirits of the world (i.e. if someone dies etc). This isn't her real mother...Aeris' real mother died at the train station a fair while back.

With that, we're ready to go and save Aeris from Shinra HQ! This is gonna be a bumpy ride and our last bit of time in Midgar (unless you want to return later for sidequests and some great stuff).

Thanks for watching! See you next time :).

Part 9: Shinra's Key Kard Kollection

http://youtu.be/SBlBzf3fFOY

Just a quick update today...for a sehr long episode.

It's time for us to take on the Shinra HQ! We kick things off in Wall Market where we buy some batteries, so that we can climb up the wall to Shinra HQ.

We also enter the HQ the good old-fashioned way and make our way through a million different floors with the different keycards that are required.

It turns out that Shinra are plotting evil deeds (shock!) and that something called Jenova is being hidden away within the building; no head???

Thanks for watching! We'll find Aeris next time and hope for the best...that red tiger-like "specimen" seems suspicious...

In the next episode you might come up against the enemy Soldier: 3rd in a random encounter in the big room where the hostages are being held. You can steal Cloud's Hardedge weapon from him which is a big improvement on the Buster Sword and is otherwise only available later on in Junon and Gongaga.

Correct! I've got the next episode all recorded and stuff for tomorrow :). It's that long before you can actually buy it? I never really noticed the benefits of stealing...just remember being told about these best items from those PS1 mags that gave tips and cheats on the most popular games :lew:.
