Mafia Game

It's totally random who you are. You're assigned a role at the start of the game. That's part of the mystery.

It's totally random who you are. You're assigned a role at the start of the game. That's part of the mystery.

You're divided into two groups: Mafia, and Town. The Town will be attempting to kill the Mafia, while the Mafia will be attempting to kill the town.

The Mafia can talk to each other.

The Town cannot.

Surviving group wins.

A Serial Killer will also be thrown in, who will kill someone every night. He/she has no group.

The day is split into two, day and night.

Every day, the townspeople sends their votes on who they want to kill to the Moderator. If they don't know what group anyone is in, they may either kill the Mafia, a Townie or the Serial Killer. It's all down to luck. They can post in the Public Thread who they think should be killed.

When someone is killed, the time becomes Night.

At Night, the Mafia send who they want to kill to the Moderator. The person with the most votes are killed. Again, who is killed depends on who reveals themselves. Townspeople can't communicate by night. Cops and Doctors choose their targets by night.

The Serial Killer also chooses their target at night. They don't lose out no matter who dies. However, if they suspect anyone of ratting them out, they can kill them.

Special Roles will be assigned by the Moderator

Cop: Can investigate someone by asking the Moderator via PM. The cop will then be told the group the person is in. They can share or warp this information.

Doctor: The Doctor can protect one person every night. If they are voted to be killed, the attempt fails. The Doctor can choose via PM to the Moderator

Mason: Townspeople may be assigned Mason status, allowing them to communicate by night.

Roleblocker: Choose a random person by night. If that person is a Mason, a Doctor, a Cop or the Serial Killer, they cannot operate that night.

I've played this game a lot IRL with my friends using a deck of cards to assign people their roles. It's actually a lot of fun, but I didn't realize that people were playing it online. But I suppose I don't see why it couldn't work out.

But this is also a more complicated version than I've played whereas my experience (much like Jess's) with the game didn't involve the Masons or the Roleblockers... or a Serial Killer. It was purely Mafia vs. Townsfolk, Sheriff (or Cop), and Doctor. But the additional roles seem like they'd make it more interesting if we got more people playing.

Anyway, I'd be down for giving this a shot, too. But also, whoever the moderator is, they need to tell an entertaining story about how the people mysteriously die. That's half the fun of playing the game. :mokken:

Like, the Town kills someone by day, and the Moderator tells the story of their death before the game enters night? That sort of thing?

They can communicate by day in public, but not by night other than masons. All's fair if you do it through PM though.

So Mafia communicates at night, Town communicates during day.

Town kills Mafia member, changes to night, Mafia kills Towns member, changes back to day?

I think I've got it.

Hmmm... I think we're going to get enough interest for this. If no one protests to me running the first one, I'll aim to start this maybe....... Saturday? Sound good? I'll start it in Sector 7 and sweet-talk a Gmod/mod of that section into stickying it for me <.<

Now.... how to assign roles fairly.... I think if I end up running this, I'll just write you all down on pieces of paper and draw names. :hmmm:

So. Protests? :mokken:

Also, list of people interested so far:

Sho Minamimoto
Mitsuru Kirijo
Lacey Mosley
Ike
Mitsuki
Cardiac Kid
Rincewind
Sabriel
Reaper_Jack
West

And Ringo, you've got it basically right except...... the town might fuck up and kill the cop or doctor :wacky:

No, like, the Moderator tells the story of how the person the Mafia killed had died. For example, I was once the narrator of a game, and I described a brutal scenario in which the person who had died slipped on a carefully place rollerskate, fell down a flight of stairs, and was promptly decapitated by a length of piano wire stretched across the bottom of the staircase. It's just entertaining to see what some people can come up with. And I think after a while, my stories got so ridiculous that one involved time-traveling dinosaurs.

Anyway, the way that I've played, the Townsfolk can't communicate at all except during the day, in public (which I expect would just be the thread). I think there should be a ban on communicating through PM for the non-Mason Townsfolk, since in my book, they may as well be Masons then.

That's up to the Moderator Jack.

So is everyone alright with stopping Townspeople from communicating by night?

I'm liking it so far. We need a set of rules detailing bans and all that shizz.

OK, that's one thing.

Is everyone OK with the inclusion of a Serial Killer?

OK. I also want to vote to remove the Roleblocker. It kind of complicates things.
