About Cloud's name. No, I don't think it was Native American(they're not called Indians btw Indians live near the Arabian sea and the Bay of Bengal. :lew:) inspired.

But going by all the Italian names present in the game (Elena, Vincent to name a few), I think Cloud's name was supposed to be Italian. It could be derived from Claudio. Pronounced KLOW-dyo which explains why the Japanese say it Kuraudo instead of Kumo. This makes even more sense if you get to know the meaning of "Claudio"--which is "disabled/lame", which could hint at Cloud's disability in recognizing his own reality and having a false perception of his reality.

Some indians have metaphorical names: Red Cloud, Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse. Etcetera.

'Cloud' = metaphorical name? :grin:

edit - I don't know that its farfetched. Its possible part of native american naming conventions represents the close connection they have with nature and the environment. A lot of their names contain references to animals, living things & the nature.

An author who intends to create a modern day character with a strong connection to nature could do something similar.

Its possible japanese authors have done similar things in the past. If you've ever watched dragonball z you might know the name 'kamehameha' is derived from an old hawaiian king. ;))

When I first saw Cloud's full name CLOUD STRIFE I thought fuck yes! That is awesome!

Because honestly, first thought in my mind was a little spell in D&D called meteorstorm, where a pink cloud comes out of now where and rains death and destruction on the enemies below. :3

So honestly, I always thought Cloud's name had no other lineage other than BADASS!

I've seen that image before :lew: I always liked how Tifa was drawn but hated how Cloud's hair looks :damon: It's a funny concept though. :lew:

This picture has Aerith in it but I mainly want to show it just because Cloud looks sooo right in these clothes (cant remember the games name dammit :gonk: )

Its Type-Zero! And yes Cloud looks really good in those Clothes!

For a moment I thought Aerith was Cinque then it dawned on me, she has a ribbon; Her and Cloud look waaay too much like Cinque and Nine; its kinda cool since Nine is my favorite from the game actually; even if he and Cloud are polar opposites in personality xD

Soooo, I was looking at pictures of Cloud's eyes (because they are perf) and I noticed his Mako makes it look like he has some sort of Heterochromia of some sort; I know Zack may have it as well but I always liked that it REALLY stood out on Cloud, he has brown, green and blue in his eyes -- its really one of the coolest things about him, I think! Makes him similar to Yuna a bit, imo.

ooooh Yes! That would be another reason why he is so mesmerizing :cali: I had a cat once with heterochromia. Looked a little like this one-

And Cali Cloud looks absolutely gorgeous in those :jess: I love that style of coat on guys. Long, buttoned/stitched to the side, and the white pants. Cloud looks perf in it.

And as for Cloud's name I don't really know...when I first played the game I was 7 (definitely did not finish it :lew:) and I thought "Cloud? what kinda name is THAT" so I changed it immediately. I mean, a cloud? And it wasn't until my most recent playthrough (last year) that I kept his name. So I never gave it much thought :hmmm:

Me too! I had some puppies recently that had partial heterochromia, reminded me of Cloud because only bits in the center had the color; just like Cloud does -- that's kind of cool though, Cloud has such amazing eyes, his also seem to have brown in it at sometime, I remember seeing that in the cellphone add he was in xD

Anyway ~

Does anyone else think that Cloud is similar to characters from movies like UP or Nightmare Before Christmas? I always felt that Cloud was really similar to the old man from UP! I could see him being that way when he was older or elderly.

So I wanted to know; How do you guys think Cloud would be as an older or/Elderly man?

Anywho as an old man? Omg...I picture Cloud as that old man down the street, yellin at the young hooligans and whippersnappers. But when he sees a little kid who is alone or lonely, he reveals to him his past and adventures and they become best friends. He'd find a little boy/girl who reminded him of his younger self. Aaaaand he'd occasionally have the gang over (Tifa, Cid, Barret, etc.) for a game of shuffleboard or whiffleball.

Hmm. I never thought he'd be what one would call curmudgeonly. (I always think of Jeff Dunham's 'Walter' when I think of that kind of old man, lol)

As an elderly man, I think Cloud would continue to be a quiet person, but much more mellowed with age. I think he'd laugh more often and grumble about his back. He'd totally be wrapped around his grandkid's fingers, especially his granddaughter. He's spoil them secretly and smile when his kids and significant other admonishes him about it (not very seriously, though). Cloud would share a lot of stories with his grand kids and be very serious and proud for every silly, horribly mangled crayon drawing they made for him. That's how I see Cloud when he's much older.
 
Asking what Cloud as an elderly person is like is an irritating question. :hmph:

Considering I've answered almost every question I've seen here -- I'll entertain it for sake of symmetry.

1. Super sexy bald spot.
2. Forgetful.
3. Can't get it up anymore without viagra.
4. Walks with a limp lives in discomfort or pain due to all the injuries he's sustained in battle.
5. Leathery skin from exposure to the elements.
6. Considering it was scientifically proven that people smell more as they get older, he probably smells like cabbage.

Thanks for bringing up all this stuff I would rather not think about.

That part that I made blue was sooo cute! Cloud spoiling his grand-kids; I really see him doing this, because he seems to really have a oft spot for kids! (and omg, seriously -- yes his granddaughter!) anyway I totally agree here :cali:

Whilst on vacation, a good question came to me concerning Cloud. (Yes, I AM that hopeless a fangirl.)

Would Cloud enjoy roller coasters?

After a while, I decided he wouldn't. I think he'd hate them and it would have nothing to do about the adrenaline or the dizzying heights. That wouldn't scare him. But for him, I think it's too much like when he was experimented on by Hojo. Look at it -- you're strapped into a machine much more powerful than you and you can't get out of it no matter how much you want to. You're trapped in a steel machine that will have it's way with you. That similarity to Hojo's experiments.... it makes me think Cloud would hate roller coasters because of that. Even if he knew, logically, it wasn't the same, I think the association would still be too great.

What do you guys think?

As I just went on my first roller coaster a few weeks ago, I realized that the people who really like roller coasters happen to be bubbly people. The group of buddies I was with: Most of them who were all extroverted loved roller coasters and loved screaming their heads off, while two in my group who were more shy and introverted didn't care for them.

While I know that isn't the case for everybody, I couldn't see Cloud screaming and enjoying a roller coaster very much. I could however see him off on the side watching the rest of the group. (Probs with Vincent) and letting out a small smile after a drop. Yuffie would be off by a garbage can because she gets motion sick. (Probably too sick to even look at the ride) Then Barrett and Tifa would be riding happily, with Cid cursing every time there was a drop. I doubt Red XIII would be allowed on the ride, but if he were, I think he'd be slightly scared but enjoying it all the same.

There is my vision of the FF7 group at Six Flags for you all :reptar:
