Storyline

Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) crosses paths with a woman from his past (Cruz), and he's not sure if it's love -- or if she's a ruthless con artist who's using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn't know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past. I loved Pirates of the Carribean but, it's just not gonna be the same without Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley.

I'm not particularly fond of Penelope Cruz for some reason. I think her accent is too strong for me :hmmm:

I might rent it or something... or I might change my mind. It really all depends.

Although I liked the first three I don't know if this will be any good but at least it looks funny.

They added Penelope Cruz well that could be good or bad depends if she is funny in it at least from the trailer she looks to have a good role in it.

I will watch it when it comes out but am not expecting it to be as good as the first three.

I agree, it doesn't look to be quite as good as the other three, since it doesn't seem like it will have much of the same tangled plot intrigue that occurred within the original trilogy. I love the overall setting and feel of the movies, but because they had to include a love interest (and someone who's too famous for this movie IMO), it feels kind of more like a token formula thing, where I would've preferred them to just focus on the adventure part and be more original. I'll definitely still watch it though, I'm sure it will still be entertaining. And I like that Mr. Gibbs and Barbossa are still in it, they're two of my favorite characters and they're excellent pirates :D

i haven't been expecting much from it ever since the end of at world's end. they're trying to take it too far now, the series can be left without proper closure over jack's quest to become immortal. it could have been left as a half-decent trilogy.
still though, i'll most likely go to see it because it'll be the headline film in blockbuster season, and i do love johnny depp and geoffrey rush.

It looks good, but it doesn't have that feeling of an epic film that it did before, and you just get this feeling that they're trying to drag the franchise beyond its natural lifespan. This will probably be a great film, but it won't be an epic film like the first three, and every film after it will be steadily more over the top, more hysterical, and less necessary, until it becomes an animated PG show on some kid's channel, showing Captain Jack Sparrow's days as a kid.

I must admit, the trailer didn't look too bad at all. I'm still dubious due to the lack of Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom - and the addition of Penelope Cruz to the cast who I'm not too particularly fond of. It may seem like its overstaying its welcome, but it's nice to see that the fourth film doesn't seem to be much of a departure from the trilogy beforehand. Unfortunately my interest in the franchise kind of waned a while ago, so I probably won't be off to see this when it's out, although I may just rent it on DVD instead.

they're trying to take it too far now,

Yeah i can agree with that, its a shame when they go too far with great movies.
However ive really loved every potc film so i think they can pull it off.
Unlike some others i really dont think orlando bloom will be missed at all, im not fond of him as an actor and never really got into his character all that much in the films, though i think a big part of that is the fact that johnny depp/jack sparrow outshone him in every single aspect of the series.
Kiera knightley as Elizabeth though i think i will miss, i was always hoping shed ditch turner and get with jack. I liked that attraction those 2 had had going on.
Il still definately watch it thought hats for sure :ryan:

Ughhh ANOTHER one?! Are they trying to RUIN good movies? People indeed do take things way too far and it ends up butchering the entire storyline and characters. If people enjoy a movie so much, the most they should make is two :/ (unless it's been taken from a novel like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter).

The way I see it, each film has been great, so why wouldn't the fourth. If a series can get three in a row, they're all going to be good. :griin:

the original star wars and indiana jones trilogies are fantastic. :monster:

QFT

I'm debating whether to actually see this or wait for the DVD. I do love Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush and the characters of Jack and Barbossa play well off each other. I might go see it just for that. I thought the second and third movies were okay at best and I was kind of annoyed that they killed off Norrington. :dave:

I can't say I'll miss Will's character at all as I thought he was rather bland. :hmmm:

Um, what?

I thought #3 was the last of it?

Sure I love Johnny Depp and think he's the hottest he's ever been in this particular role but they're really milking it aren't they?

I thought #3 was a bit much but it turned out okay. But now they're not even having Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightly in it? It's not going to feel right. =/

And Penelope Cruz...ew. I can't stand her. =/

Poor Johnny is being paired up with the yucky ones lately. First Angelina in 'The Tourist' now this?

I'll probably rent it just to see Johnny with his sexy eyeliner. <3

I agree. XD

I just looked at the trailer and I like that they have mermaids in it. <3 Always loved mermaids!

Tbh, I'm seeing more promise in this than I saw in the third one, which really was a biiiig mistake.

I'm not really fussed at all about the loss of Kiera Knightley and Orlando Bloom, it doesn't phase me at all. I personally don't consider an element of Pirates of the Caibbean. Penelope Cruz, I love her in Pedro Almodovar's Volver. But that's not exactly an action adventure so I'm quite skeptical as to whether or not she'll have a place in this film. I'll be using this to determine how good of an actress she is by seeing how well she handles this genre shift. I'm gonna be honest, her performance looks quite promising so far.

I'm gonna hold onto a thread of hope here and say this film could redeem the saga. We'll have to wait and see.

Am I the only one who was really disappointed with POTC3? I thought the beginning was really good, but I almost fell asleep in the middle of the movie because they seemed to have run out of plot. I loved the first two, but another one???....4....srsly? I like Johnny as captain jack, but I don't think that he is going to be able to hold up the movie by himself with Orlando and Keira gone. Oh yeah and I hate to imagine the plot for this one...after the last one I'm getting bad vibes.

Anyways, I will rent it on Netflix. I'm not paying $13.50 to see what I think is a movie that isn't going to be worth it in the theatres. :monster:

a heads up for those who are totally amazed by there being a fourth (which was obvious from at world's end... end); johnny depp is signed for a further trilogy (on stranger tides being the first of that). keira knightley and orlando bloom didn't sign up for any more, which is why they aren't in this one.

Tbh, I'm seeing more promise in this than I saw in the third one, which really was a biiiig mistake.
This. Honestly, I've always compared POTC to the Matrix movies.

The first one was amazing. The plot was fresh, the effects were great, and the whole thing was perfect.

The second movie drew initial feelings of "FUCK YEAH!" and then left everything hanging after creating several plot lines of "wait wat?"

The third movie attempts to wrap it all up but leaves the entire thing feeling...too messed around with. By then you think a single stand-alone movie would've been absolutely perfect.

So that all said, Stranger Tides feels pleasantly stand-alone-ish, so I have considerably more hope for it than I had for the POTC3 and perhaps even POTC2.

First off, I'm a huge fan of this series, I love all three of the existing films and I still watch them quite often. I've gotten so excited over these films that I've hunted for every tidbit of info I can find on the internet about them prior to their release (I had the entire leaked script for At World's End saved on my computer a few months before it was out), but I've learned that doing this ultimately kind of takes away from the movie experience, so I haven't done that this time around.

I saw the trailer for the first time on the internet last week and was very impressed.. but then I saw it again IN 3D last night when I went to see Tron: Legacy--

-And let me just say that this 3D bullshit is SOO unnecessary and such an annoying nuisance. Even just from the trailer, I had to scratch and rub my eyeballs. The glasses themselves make everything darker and harder to see and focus on, and I don't need torches and swords jutting out of the screen to make me feel immersed. I know some (or maybe many) people like the 3D, but to me it's just a bad novelty fad that I can tell is turning into the future of movies.

So all in all, the movie to me looks great and a worthy sequel (the mermaids especially look great and the 'zombies' look very well done and not overkilled (no pun intended there), but I just pray to the lord that I can see it in regular 2D and not have to put up with what I did last night.

I'm REALLY excited about it, but, as has been stated before, it's going to feel pretty weird without Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.

Regardless, this looks really promising. Can't wait for it.

Well, I'm excited as Hell. I loved the first three. Granted, they got a little more convoluted as the series went on but I felt that kinda gave it that epic, fantasy-movie feel. When I heard that Bloom and Knightley weren't going to be in it, I didn't really care all that much because I didn't enjoy their performances all that much in the first three. And I don't really think that a fourth movie is going to ruin the series. Like I said, I loved the other movies. They were like the epitome of the classic adventure movie. Then again, I'm a franchise whore and anytime I hear about another addition to a series that I've grown fond too, I automatically get giddy.
